Dear All:
The rear arm rest of my XG houses a lovely little double cup holder that pops out with a satisfyingly smooth action worthy of any quality DVD or CD player.
However, mine now refuses to close fully (it remains stuck out about 5mm) which prevents me from fully raising the arm rest back into the seat.
The cup holder's return path appears to be blocked, but squinting inside with the aid of my MagLite reveals no visible impediment. Further, I can't find any way of dismantling any part of the arm rest to investigate further without risking damage to the housing, leather or velvety interior.
Any and all helpful suggestions gratefully received.
Kind regards
Jerry
PS: Montego - had that 50k service with the timing belt change. Car runs much better now.

My '02 XG350L has the feature where the mirrors tilt down when you put it in reverse.
For a while this worked fine, but i think you had to have the mirror adjust switch to the left or the right or something to make it work. Now the mirrors won't tilt regardless of what position the switch is in or from what state I shift into reverse from.
Anyone else had this problem? What did it take to resolve it? I really like this feature and would hate to have to pay a mechanic to fix it if it's just a loose connection or a worn out switch or something else I could fix myself.

2005 XG350L. I put in an aftermarket head unit - made an incredible difference. Here is the problem. The head unit is sending a powered signal to the factory amp, which then powers again to the speakers. My volume range is 0 to 40 and 5 is about the max I can listen to. It sounds great but its far too sensetive. I need to either find some sort of adapter that goes rca in/speaker out (to avoid using the head units power), or, bypass the amp. I located the amp (in the trunk), but I would really need some sort of wiring diagram.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dustin

Hi,
Has anyone noticed this too?
I have an 03 xg350l with 42k miles on it and I was changing out the pads on the rear brakes. When I removed the pads I noticed that the inner pad was worn down to almost nothing while the outer pad had plenty of life left. Maybe a good 30 to 40 percent of pad material left. This was the case on both rear wheels.
I suspected that the caliper was not functioning properly so I put the pads back on and took it to the dealer thinking faulty calipers would be a covered warranty issue. BUT the dealer says this type of wear pattern is normal. And that the worn down pad was simply cuased because it was the side the piston presses down on and that is what makes it wear faster.
They also told me that I need new rotors too. Which I don't understand how with only 42k miles I have to get rotors already. Besides they looked fine. What is going on here? Is the dealer trying to pull a fast one? Or would others here agree with what they say?
Someone please help. Thanks in advance.

The timing belt on my husband's XG350 just broke. It's at the Hyundai place but they can't get to it until tomorrow. The mechanic said to cross our fingers the engine isn't ruined. What's the chances that its OK? I'm totally freaking out! We still owe our a@# on the car! How much is a new or rebuilt engine gonna cost? I know its my husband's fault because he put off putting it in the shop at 60k. It's about 10k over. Any suggestions for teh worse case senario? I'm crying!!!!!!

Has anyone fitted cold air induction to their Grandeur and if so did it improve the fuel economy ? Have a look at the standard induction piping after the air filter it goes all around the houses looks like its a bit choked up to me. Around the corner under the fuse box then into some box behind the inner gaurd. With the price of fuel any improvement will be worth it in the long run, what do you think ?

Hi
I've just purchased an XG25. However, the climate control displays the temperature in fahrenheit. Does anyone know what buttons I should press to change it to celcius, as we use celcius in Ireland. I know they can display in celcius and I am assuming I probably hold down two buttons on the CC panel but I am unsure what ones I should be pressing!
On another topic, should all the switches light up on the drivers door? Only the drivers window switch lights up on mine.
Many thanks
Graham

hey guys,
im in the middle of my alt. swap..
ive got the rad assembly and everything eles out..
all i need to do is find the tensioner, but i cant seem to locate the bolt for the tensioner..
is it right next to the oil filter?
i've been working on older nissans and they have a long bolt that tensions the engine accessories..
if anyone can point me in the right direction, it'd be GREATLY appreciated.
i have a 2002 XG350L, and i'm in the united states.. (i doubt location really matters.. since all the xg have the same motor?>)

I just got a 2001 XG and have not taken the door panels off the doors to check the types of speakers are behind them. I know that the back speakers are 6x9s. I am sure that the front speakers are not. Does anyone know what size they are? Also the best way to remove the door panels. From what I read the back ones should be a snap. I just have to remove the speaker grills to get to the screws to remove the speark. Is this right?

Have had somewhat of a dramatic ending to my Saturday night. When i got in the car this evening and started it there was an extreamly loud screeching noise coming from the engine (sounded like one of the belts). I figured when i started driving it would stop however it just kept going. When i turned on the AC it got much much worse
About two minutes later there was a loud bang, the screeching stopped and my "Brake" and "Battery" warning lights came on. Fortunatley I was in one of my friends streets so i pulled into their driveway and we popped the hood to have a look inside. I looked down at the alternator belt and it was hanging loose. I looked beneath it and one of the cogs had totally unscrewed itself from its bolt (or whatever it is).
Obviously I left the car there as I'd assume having that belt off is somewhat of an issue. I've noticed since the car was serviced a few weeks ago that whenever I turn on the AC i would get a quiet screech like the one I heard tonight (only not as bad) so it seems the problem has been coming for a while.
Anyway... solutions? The car is under warranty so I'm not too worried, but does anyone know if the Australian Grandeur came with road side assistance for the life of the warranty (and hopefully it's transferable?). Can I drive the car to the dealer like this or is it a tow job. Unfortunatley tomorrows Sunday and Monday's a public holiday so she may be stranded for a few days.

Just picked myself up an 01 Grandeur XG with 80,000k's on the clock. She's got a few marks on the outside but is as new inside and (touch wood) everything seems to be working.
My first task is to install my mobile phone car kit. I've found the wiring details for the stereo from hmaservice.com, but I can't see a wire that looks like the "cellular mute" one. Does anyone know which one this is?
Thanks!

2002 hyundai XG 350L. I just changed the spark plugs and cleaned the Throttle body with TB cleaner and ever since then i'm throwing a CEL P0401 EGR flow insufficient. Does anyone know what could be causing the this CEL the EGR valve is an electronic one on the XG. I think some carbon build up that was getting washed away from the TB got into the EGR system and is causing the solenoid to stick but I am open to any other hypothesis and fixes of this problem.

A friend of mine just had his Hyundai in for service and one of his complaints was the lousy radio reception. Of course when he went back to pick up the car they told him they could find nothing wrong. However he did manage to get this little tidbit of information from the service manager and that was in a month or two a service bulletin will be issued with a fix for the radios. I'll believe it when I see it.

I've just had my Grandeur in for a service at the dealer. I asked them to have a look at a knocking noise from the front right occuring during light turns at speed. I was advised the car needs new "front suspension bushes" and all was said that none are in stock.
The car is still under its original 5 year warranty so I just wanted to check if bushes are covered, or are they considered consumables?
Anyone know if I can get them online somewhere cheap, and if I just take it to my local mechanic, would it be too hard for them? Don't want the dealer ripping me off any more!

Hiya guys and gals
Now just purchased my Grandeur and i wanna make it go fast. Its got a 3.0ltr Quad Cam V6 and though its not gutless, it just does not keep up with my mates 12 sec cars.I don't want it that quick a high 14 sec would be nice, just looking for some advice to start of. The engine is as stock as a rock at the moment, already spent enough on the stereo. Now i got to move onto the engine. I don't want to change the body, i like the shape and people don't expect you to beat them of the lights. Also what suspension mods are out there, handles pretty well already but it doesn't hurt to see whats out there.
Alwell hope to hear some feedback, and i will check back on this later

Hello one and all from Adelaide, South Australia!
Just purchased a 2000 Grandeur and absolutely loving it so far.
Couple of things (it is under warranty so I'm not too concerned...) but...
CD player doesn't work. Get the err 6 message. According to the manual, it means dirty or scratched discs. I work in a cd shop, so I have tried many discs. No luck. Radio and cassette is fine. I have a lens cleaning disc, but that gets the same error.
The window controls on the driver's door seem to be temperamental. They work one minute, then not the next.
apart from that, all is well...so far.
hope someone has had the same problems and can help
cheers, Ian

Hello, My battery died recently and I replaced it, but found that the alternator was shot. I drove it for a while on battery power to get it to a service station for repairs and got several different responses.
I did have the charging system checked so I do know that a new alternator is needed.
Does anyone else ever have this repair done and if so, what tips do you have?

Hello everybody,
I have 2004 XG 350 and I can't start it. Some guys from dealership told me it can be a computer problem.
I bought the car with broken ignition lock. I changed this lock with cylinder and got new keys. To programme these keys I brought my car to Hyundai center. They tried to re-programme, but problem is that these keys don't communicate with computer and they are telling me it's a computer problem and we have to change it. Another problem is I don't have a purple key. If I don't have a master key is it possible to make a new one?
Maybe somebody have any ideas what can be and how to solve this problem...
Thanks.

Looking foward to some advice

Any other Aussie owners have a Grandeur LE (Limited Edition)? i Know they were a runout model with the two tone paint,Cruise control fitted , bonnet badge and rear LE badge on boot Otherwise the same as the standard Grandeur . Did they make LE's in other countries Mine is a 2001 model just out of warranty with 35,000 klm on the odometer . I first drove a grandeur as a loan car when my sonata was in for a gearbox rebuild under warranty and from that time on i just had to own one. One of the best value for money cars i know of plus the 5/130k warranty is a plus

Hi All:
I've been doing the odd websearch for accessories and enhancements for my XG30, but haven't really found much. I'd be very interested in any options anyone might know about for the following:
- rear suspension feels low and mudguard linings can be heard to scrape against the wheel occasionally, either when I have adult passengers in the back or heavy shopping. Better springs? Better shocks?
- my alloys wheels are a little scrappy, but I'm not sure whether to pay for renovation or to buy new, slightly larger ones. I do think the standard wheels look a little undersized. Are there any Hyundai upgrades available?
- does anyone know of any source for general enhancements, whether aesthetic (such as those natty hood/bonnet ornaments) or performance-boosting?
All advice and assistance greatly appreciated.

Hi there, new to the site.
I currently have a 99 Accent and I want to upgrade after I finish college. The prices of the XG have come way down, and I'm seriously looking at the 2004+ model over the rest due to:
- extremely competitive price ie. bang for buck
- larger brakes
- re-styled front/rear
- alloy spare
- decent sound system (will upgrade eventually, but nice to have in the mean time)
- I think two model years is a fair bit of time to work out the kinks
Now, I have driven a 2001 XG300 once or twice, as I used to work at a Hyundai dealership.
How does the XG300 compare to the XG350?
Is there a significant difference between 2002/3 XG350s and 2004/5 XG350s?
- I really would like HID as a part of this car however, and from what I can tell I can either fit a retrofit kit (~$300-500USD) or get the OEM HID headlamp kit (~$1000USD). Is the OEM kit really that much better?
- How is it for maintenance costs?
- How is the gas mileage if you go easy? If you are being aggressive?
- How is the cabin noise level at high speeds? ie 120-140kmh
- Has anyone fitted 17" or larger wheels to the car? How has this affected handling/ride quality?
- Has anyone fitted proper winter tires to the stock wheels? Does it handle in snow ok? (I live in Ontario, Canada, so half-decency in the snow is a must)
I personally know/worked for the co-owner of a Hyundai dealership(also best friend's dad), so I can more than likely get a pretty good deal on one, I'd just like your opinions on it.
Sorry for the long first post...I figure best to get them all out at once rather than make a dozen small posts. Thanks in advance!

Hello All you hyundau lovers
i am one too, the first one i ever set my eyes on was a 2000 gold granduer xg300 all options but no sunroof, i was luxurized by the leather and woody interior, (that's really plastic), and that electronic memory seat, and the six speaker stereo.
well any way as time passed i got me license and my first car was a ford fairmont 1989, which was free, it was a wreck but it got me from A-b, but now since a month ago i ran into a 1999-2000 Hyundai grandeur xg300 all options exept sunroof, it was going to cost me AU$7000 plus a $60 transfer fee, which the seller gladly paid.
it had a problem with acceleration, but i didn't think it was too bad to fix, and also the exterior and interior was awful, but it was very cheap, so i gladley brought it
i took it to a hyundai shop to get the accelerations fixed, and OMG!!! air mass flow meter broken, and that cost me $AU800 to fix.
after that the acelleration responded much better, but then i drove my dads, and it was like really bad compared to his gold xg300, when my dads car passed 3500rpm aprox the revs just swung up like a race car, and it was really fast, too my disappointment, my car really needed a service, but a big one since it had 90,000km on the clock.
so my friend told me where to go, a great friend, loved to fix cars and was really cheap, but unfortunatley, the service was going to cost me $au1540.00 OMG!! again, but he was going to do alot, he did me wheels balanced and alligned, my oil (syntehtic stuff yum!!), and he flushed atleast 20ltrs of A/t oil until it came out the other end pure, same with me break fluid flush, platinum sparkies, and nice leads, timing belt, and cams stuff, and tensioners, and the works.
so all was good until they put the engine back together and it didn't start. they back tracked until they found some not responding cam shaft sensor things, and woah ~~~ aprox $au200 each bummer, we couldn't figure out, so we have to buy 2 to figure out, any way end of me story
i still love me hyundai, it's just costing me alot to fix.
and also, i was able to get that double din head unit outa my car, need any help just email me, putting in after market head unit, also the harness for a 2000 sonata should match the one for the hyundai grandeur , i'm not sure yet becasuse i havn't recieved mine but i'm pretty sure
Any way Bye

So back in September 2005, my husband and I bought a 2001 Hyundai XG300. In November it needed a whole new transmission, which we were very lucky was still under warranty. Then in December it needed a new wheel bearing, which cost $300 for the part alone due to it being a dealer specific part. Then this past Friday it need new front brake pads and rotars, and rear brake pads, another $600. Then today it needs another wheel bearing replaced soon, so antoher $500 for part and installation. All this on a 5 year old car we've had 6 months now. It's a lemon and a piece of garbage, and we're stuck with it!

After starting my grandeur the handbrake and battery warning lights are remaining on although they are a little dull compared to when you start up.
I have checked my battery and the brake fluid which seem to be Ok. Can anyone assist me.
Thanks Duke.
18hrs later all electronic speedo, rev counter, radio, air con has now stopped working. The battery which is 3 years old is showing no charge.
Having it all checked out in 2 days time by dealer in Geelong Australia.

When driving my 2001 Grandeur oversmall bumps I get a slight rattle which seems to be coming through the steering column. It almost sounds like a loose rack. All bolts seem to be nice and tight, but it sounds as if something is loose. it only seems to happens over small irregularities in the road. Can anyone help please as it is annoying in an otherwise very quiet car.

Hi again all,
I've been told by the Hyundai dealer that the front suspension upper arm bushes (I'm assuming the ones which bolt up through the top of the strut housing, the tops of which are visible when you open the bonnet), are worn and need replacing.
There's a definite "clunk" at low speed, particularly when the wheel drops, rather than rises over a bump, or on rough bitumen.
I have a picture of the upper arm assembly from the WebTech site.
Has anyone replaced these, and what's involved?
Do I need special tools, or are they simply bolt-off/bolt-on?
Hyundai want lots of dosh to do it, but as a fairly competent home mechanic, I like to do my own work wherever possible.
Cheers,
Engel.

Hi all,
Well, we've had the Grandeur for over a year now and are very happy with it. Just had its 180,000km service at the dealer. ($1157.00!!!)
I need to fit a towbar, as I have an 8'x5' steel box trailer and now no car capable of towing it.
I can purchese a factory towbar from Hyundai for A$165.00, as they're now superseded and therefore half price. Also a wiring loom is available, but quite expensive still. I therefore thought about using clip-on terminals to make my own.
Has anybody fitted a towbar and wiring loom to a Grandeur?
I would like to know if there are any special precautions required to fit the wiring loom, especially since there are computers etc in the car.
If I simply use "break-in" type clip-on terminals on the wires leading to the tail lights, will the extra loading on the system do any harm or cause problems when the trailer is attached? I haven't seen the factory loom, so don't know if it has any little "black boxes" to overcome load problems.
The trailer only has stop/tail/numberplate/indicator lights.
Anyone done this?
Cheers,
PaulE, Toowoomba, Qld, Australia

I'm new to this forum. Am trying to get some advice for my car. 2nd owner 63,000 miles 2001 XG 300. Just off the warranty. My guy at the dealer shop is saying I need to replace the timing belt and the timing belt tensioner ASAP to the tune of $450! He says they all go out and if I wait and it fails it will be about $1400. Just wondering if everyone else has this same problem and if I should try to get it done cheaper. Also the engine light has been coming on. I tried racheting down the gas cap and it quit once, but is happening again. Scheduled to take it in this week. Any comments or advice? Thanks

Is there an easy way to change the H3 fog light bulb.
Laying on the ground I can get in to the cap but can't get it to turn.
Might have to take it to the dealer for this.
Saw the comments about taking out the headlamp to change the entire lamp but seems like a lot for changing the bulb.

I am pretty able - mechanically, so I would appreciate if anyone knows of a reasonable DIY Maintenance book for the 2001 Grandeur. As I'm Retired I have a bit of time to keep my car well serviced and looked after. Thankyou very much.

Hello All - thanks for taking a moment to read this.
I have just purchased a 2001 XG30 (great car!) but there are a few minor issues I need to resolve. If anyone can give me any advice I'd be most grateful.
The one I want to ask about here is about a build up of condensation on the inside of both front headlamp units and also one of the reverse lights on the boot (trunk).
All lights are working fine and there is no sign of any corrosion (yet).
Does anyone know of any way to clear this and reseal the units to prevent future recurrence, or will it be necessary to replace the units entirely (expensive!)?
Please advise.

Does anyone know if you eally can download a manual, or buy one from somewhere in Australia.
Have just got a 2001 Granduer XG and would like to acquaint myself with any special things that might occur.
Many thanks to all Members.
