Hi.
Today, the tachometer stoped working.
Last summer when the weather was hot I used A/C. That had a bad effect to tachometer - it droped to "0". I realized the battery was poor. Since the battery change it has been ok. Until today, I started the engine, with out A/C or any different kind of load, but the tachometer does not work.
I believe it is a tachometer senor (if such thing exists) failure, but can someone confirm ?

The fusebox cover for my 2002 XG350 is missing, and the fuse blew out on my wipers. Can someone please tell me which fuse I need to replace, or point me to a fuse diagram?

When I took the car for a test drive it handled really well and I know I wanted one since I saw the first xg300 down the street from where I live theres a dealer. anyway.
please keep in mind the I am going to bring the car back down to have it looked at again..
When I test drove it, everything was fine. After I bought the car.. the alinement in the front was off. wtf. I called them up and had the car serviced. Apprently all the car need was to remove a little air out of the front tire. quess what? the freaking thing still pulls in the same direction.
when I set the seat memory sometimes it doesn't work.. you think something is wrong with that?
At speeds between 30 and 60 the steering wheel shakes and get me very worried. any ideas other than the alinement and balanceing the wheels?
and the one that really gets me **** off..
Its freaking hot, I drive with the windows down and the roof open and constantly get HOT air blown at my feet. WTF? I thought that the vents are allways closed except when using the air conditioner in a certain mode??
I want to take my car to another dealer and have it fully looked at. I wonder if they would charge me for this. I have not even made the first freaking payment.

Well guys I have little problem that has started today when stopped at light the motor hunts and the rev go up and down. while driving it seem to be back firing my 1999 Grandeur has 67000 klm on it I know it is due for a interim service for oil. I am wondering whether it could be sparkplugs as the car is 7 years old now and none of the plugs leads or or belts have been changed they are there from when it was new anybody have any ideas

ok, does anyone have a loose rearview mirror that doesnt stay still on a rough road. I have the auto tint one and when im going over rough sections of road, r/r tracks, pot holes, whatever, the mirror tilts down and i end up looking at the back seat. Anyone know how to take this lil booger apart or anything! I was thinking about glueing it but if i can get some insight, it'd be great.
And havs anyone found a supercharger kit for these cars. I was thinking the santa fe might fit but i dont have the $ to just try it out.

hey guys i just made a complaint with the nhtsa i think you huys that have the shudder in the tranny should call and make a complaint they said if enough complaint are heard they may make a recall here is the # 18883274236
hopefully something will happen i think if we get together on this we can fix our cars cause i dont think we should pay for hyundais mess up

I have bought a 2001 XG300. Everything is fine. But the checking engine light was on recently. Dealer fixed the problem for me, but three days later, the light came back again. Auto zone check out the error code P0401 for me. Is it a serious problem? Is it common in Hyundai XG 300.

hey peepz i was getting ready to do my system pioneer p980 directed audio 800 and a mmats procast subs but my ? is this i did my tv in the sorento my boy turned on th factory and and the inside sounded horrible even after the spearker upgrade now the xg is selfpowerd amps need to be bypassed or the radio wont sound i ve never done a bypass before so i was wondering if any 1 where has done a bypass with there system and if you guys can tell me how to do it

Sorry for the lengthy post. I drive a XG350L with 73000 miles. The issues below have been ongoing since the auto was purchased new. As the issues are all related to long term driving (many hours at a time) the problems have not been able to be duplicated at the dealers that attempted resolution.
Description: Vehicle lurches without any notice forward and reverse.
Problem: Sometimes the auto lurches (catching you off guard) when the accelerator is pressed down. It is similar to a jack rabbit start (maybe 1/2 pedal.) I have almost caused an accident twice once in reverse and once in forward.
When Occurs?
1. Only after the vehicle has been driven for a long time in city stop and go traffic.
2. Does not do until engine/transmission are hot, cold ok.
3. Usually stops for a while if the ECM is cleared.
Description: Transmission shudders from 4th to overdrive (OD)
When occurs?
1. Always occurs after driving for long periods (250 miles or more.)
2. Usually (95% of time) occurs when transmission is under the control of the cruise control (CC) but can sometimes when under operator control.
3. Usually occurs after CC has downshifted because of a grade or similar.
4. Sometimes occurs when transmission downshifts under operator control for passing or the like.
5. Always occurs at high speeds (65 to 75 mph.)
Description: Transmission shudders from 3rd to 4th
When occurs? Only if driven hard (hilly terrain or similar). Goes away after vehicle has cooled off.
Description: Transmission hangs in 4th gear for a long period and then shudders into OD.
When occurs?
1. If it occurs... it is ALWAYS after the CC downshifts due to terrain. Disconnecting the CC does not disconnect the hang. "IF" the transmission shifts into OD the slightest pressure on the accelerator will force it to downshift again.
2. Always occurs at high speeds (65 to 75 mph.)
3. Hang period is about a minute or two long before it upshifts on its own and ALWAYS with a shudder.

i have Xg 300 2001
millage is about 80000
a couple weeks ago the transmission stuck at 3rd gear...
after re starter... every thing goes fine...
but about 3 days ago... i got that same trouble....
can anybody help me???
then about electrical problem...
a month ago
the check engine indicator... flashing every time... and i cant starter the car....
the dealer... said the camshaft sensor is broken... so i change the sensor...
but after i bring home the car... everytime i start the engine... the wiper is active for just twice time...
i dont know whats wrong with that....
is that problem in Computer???
or just wire malfunction???

The dash pad on my XG is starting to lift around the passenger side defogger vent near the windscreen and I am at a bit of a loss as to how to fix this. I was thinking about glueing it down but I am unsure of what type of glue to use, how to hold it down for the length of time for the glue to set and how to get the glue in there in the first place as there is not a lot of room between the windscreen, the vents and the dash pad. I am afraid that if I dont fix it the dash will eventually crack where it is lifting and look unsightly. Has anyone experienced the same problem and if so how did you go about fixing it?.

Seems like I dont have to press the throttle anymore , the engine rotations are so high on ideling like 1000 - 2000 . If I press a little throttle the rotations go instantly to 0 and its good that the engine will stay running. After its recovered from 0 after 1 second or so I can press a little throttle again and all will repeat.
Can You help me out ?

Hi, this is my first post, thanks for providing such a great forum, I am sure it will come in handy from now on.
I have a headlight problem with my 1999 Grandeur XG 3.0, I have onwned this car from new and have had it fully serviced (every 7500km) by Hyundai. It has done 148,000km now and has been an awesome vehicle.
The headlight low beam does not work. When I turn on low beam, the parking lights are on but not the headlights. The fog lights will work if I switch them on and high beam works as well. The tail lights all work. I have checked all the fuses I can find and they are all okay as far as I can see. I even swapped some of the bigger ones in the engine bay fuse box but still no good. Above the fuse box under the dash are some relays etc. I cannot easily find any information on these and I am wondering if these might be the clue to my problem. Has anyone had this problem before or does anyone know more about the light system and what the problem is.

G'Day
I have 137,000Kms on my 2000 Grandeur. I just had the speed sensor replaced because I was driving (on a flat surface) with the cruise control set and without warnng, it jumped (rather violenlty) down into third gear and wouldn't change down any further! After restarting the car, it seemed to work fine. That problem now seems to have been fixed but every now and again, the whole car shudders in and out of 4th gear. Especially after driving long distances (i.e on the freeway) and then leaving the lights....
Help! Does anybody have any ideas? Please don't tell me that I'm gonna have to replace the tranny...

It's not difficult by any stretch of the imagination, just annoying to try to get your hands everywhere you need to get to. It's only 3 bolts and one nut.
The dealership wanted "about" $240 in labor + parts. The hose assembly at my dealership was $127 with tax. It has taken me about 3 hours...but that includes going back and forth to find the right size tools to fit in between the car and my hands and FIGHTING out the stupid a$$ metal line that is "molded" to "fit" the way it does.
If anyone needs any help in the future, feel free to e-mail me.
p.s. new to the forum. I have an '01 XG300 and love it.

My 2001 XG300 has the check engine light on.
The car runs with no problems.
Had it check and the mechanic said that it was giving the code 1159, and that he had no information on what was causing the light to go on.
Has anyone had this problem?
I will hate to have this escalate to a bigger problem.

OK this is now going to be the 3rd time to drop off the XG, last time was 2 weeks ago for the same thing. Try to start, the car hickups and then when it starts the engine revs to about 2000 rpm. Put it in drive and the car makes a funny noise, sort of a knocking sound. Will not rev above 3000 rpm. This happens when the car is cold or hot. Has lasted about 5 min when cold, when hot the last time only a couple minutes. Then is fine, the tech that repaired it last time stated it was a relay and is part of the electronic throttle. I suppose I could have got a bad part but it keeps reoccuring. The last time was the 1st time it was correctly identified. Anyone have this happen, am I getting the correct repair?

This will probably only be of interest to UK owners, but I thought I'd put up a post to see if anyone has any thoughts.
The new budget states that road tax (Vehicle Excise Duty) on the highest-polluting vehicles will rise to £300 from April next year, then to £400 the year after.
Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas about:
a) any cost effective mods to reduce CO2? (I don't even know if that's possible!)?

comparable Hyundai models that fall beneath the new thresholds?

Just bought a new Xg350L in Dec. 04. It now has lessthan 3500miles on it. I have taken two short trips and enjoy the car greatly. After about 2000 miles I noticed a problem with transmission. At low speed ihear the transmission gears making a noise. I took it to the dealer for service and I was told that this is normal for the XG series. The service manager said that it isthe way that the gears are cut in the manufacturing process. This answer does not sound normal to me. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM?

I've just installed a new stereo in my Grandeur and I'm a little unhappy with the sound quality.
There is a constant background hiss (more noticeable at low volume) and when playing a CD I can hear the sound of the disc spinning through the speakers. The volume is also a little strange, the stereo has 40 volume settings however when it's on setting "3" its already very loud. I wouldn't dare go past "6" as I'm scared it'll blow the speakers!
Anyone have any ideas? I don't know if I should blame the new stereo, or if the Grandeur's AMP might be the problem.

Hey all, picked up this XG last yr and love it. But already had an emmision component replaced under warranty and now the power streering pump is going out. Also the mass airflow code is comming up. Still under warranty with 49k on it but doesnt this seem strange for the pump to go out, the housing itself is going out, leaking. Other than that what a used car bargain. Ist Hyundai and am thinking next will be the Azera.

I bought this 2001 Hyundai XG300L in November of 2004 it was still under warranty at that time but in the summer of 2005 we started having some problems. First thing that happened we were on the hiway with the cruise control set to prevent accidental speeding. I promise that my foot never touched the break! But at some point we experienced an awful strong jerk, it felt like someone had stepped on the break really hard but just as quickly had let off. Immediately a "check engine" light came on. Took it to an AutoZone to get the codes read and we had received the some codes and since it was under warranty we took it to a Hyundai dealership. They said it indicated a fault with the input speed sensor and fuel metering. I don't remember what all they replaced but we got some parts replaced and it seemed to be fine. The check engine light came on again and some other parts were replaced and again this repeated a few more times, though at this time we never experienced that frightening jerk again. Well, not while under warranty at least. Now I know the mass air flow thing had been replaced and who knows what else. The next time that check engine light came on I took it in and they informed me that I was now out of warranty. I mentioned to them at that time that the radio didn't perform well in AM and that you can't turn the radio off without it coming back on by itself. Also it switches to CD1 mode from time to time. They told me it was not something covered under warranty any more. So now I'm driving it out of warranty and I took it to a mechanic and had a host of worked done some of it scheduled maintenance at the 60k mark. I had the timing belt and pully changed I had oxygen sensors replaced, spark plugs and plenum gasket and the radiator flushed and the transmission fluid drained and refilled. There may have been other things done but don't remember. This cost me about $2500! The next time I had trouble it was running very poorly like it was going to die. I didn't have enough time to run down to my favorite mechanic and took it instead into Firestone. On the way there I turned on the a/c because it was hot but quickly turned it off when I smelt something like electrical burn. When I got to Firestone they said I had a bad alternator and battery. They replaced it at the cost of $800! Ok, as I was planning on taking a driving vacation I went ahead and had the work done. The problem returned the next day and again I took it to Firestone and they said this new alternator was bad in exactly the same way as the last one. I found that hard to believe but again they replaced it at no cost. Then it happened again!.... I called them and they did a deeper investigation and found out that Hyundai was on its 3rd revision on this alternator and the after market alternators they were using were not up to this standard. After installing the OEM alternator all my problems were finally gone (except the radio thing)..... or so I thought. I went on my vacation and was gone for 2 weeks with no problem until 2 days after I returned home. I was on the hiway again and again experienced that frightening thing I felt at the beginning of these troubles, a sudden jerk that was very hard like someone stomping on the break. I was in cruise mode and even after the event remained in cruise but the check engine light came on. Since this problem I had experienced under warranty before I felt that they had not fixed it right at that time and called Hyundai to see if they would fix it this time as it wasn't fixed right the first time. The code they told me is the "output speed sensor" and the first time it was the "input speed sensor". They said this was a different problem and would not be covered. I called HMA Consumer Affairs and I am presently waiting their assistance in this matter and hope it will be resolved soon. Since calling HMA Consumer Affairs the "check engine" light has gone away on its own and now the "air bag" light is on. I'm beginning to be that all of this is some major electrical problem. I'm upside-down on the loan for this car and don't know where to turn. Anyone experiencing similar problems? HMA Consumer Affairs told me that this car has been in numerous times under warranty since it rolled off the assembly line.

Hi there folks,
Im a new member on this forum and im glad i found it due to these circumstances.
The car dosent have 35000km on the counter, still almost in new condition, not beaten up physically and cosmetically.
I started to have problems in early january this year. The car wouldn't start most of the times, without notice, noise, check engine lights...no indication whatsoever.
Had the keys reprogrammed many times and nothing changed. The itac module was replaced (high$) and i was trouble free for a month. Then the trouble got back. Key repgrogrammed again and again and nothing changed again. Had the selenoid replaced this time and was trouble free for a good two months. The trouble got back. The car been on the computer many times and there is no trouble detected whatsoever. Guy at hyundai told me he called the company and they havent seen this before. Many hours($) on the car to fix the problem but no one can find it...
Im really tired of this problem, ive missed many days at the job due to that (home one hour ride from the job...been stuck at the job 2 times with an xg that wont start).
Any help to solve my problem will be gladly appreciated! Because for now i cant sell it and cant own it...im trapped!

After experiencing the battery & brakelight warning lights coming on I took my XG Grandeur, 2000, to the auto electrican. I thought he was having a go at me when he quoted $800 all up. Apart from the totally stupid design of having to take out the radiators etc to get at the alternator, he also said that they were about the most expensive alternator to come by. Does anyone know where I can get a better priced alternator.
Stupid designs for working on cars & rip off prices for parts certainly turns you off that brand of car.

I havnt seen it illuminate. So here is a question for You my sport friend

does Your hyundai sport light illuminate when You drive in sport mode ?
I ask because mine dosnt and now I think the shudder could
be related to that shudder some of us have.

This morning I went to unlock my car the alarm went off and engine wouldnot start after the alarm was turned off. I then proceeded to lock the car and I left it for a while. I Then returned after 30 min I unlocked car with the key this time again the alarm went off and still had no power to the motor. I assumed that if the remote control didnot work you would be able to unlock the car safely. I locked car back up return 30 min later this alarm didnot go off and car started with out a problem this is the first time this has happen to me does anybody have any theories on this. The only change I have done is had a Towbar connected last week and I uesed my trailer on the[/B] weekend [/FONT][/size][SIZE=7]

Hi All,
I have a 2000 Grandeur.
Without warning (albeit at times an ever so slight shudder) the gearbox drops from 5th into 3rd gear.
Can change only between 2nd and 3rd (sport shift)
Ok after turning engine off and re-starting.
Have had gearbox flushed and oil changed with spec oil.
Mechanic has tested for errors on computer but have nothing logged.
Have also disconnected battery for 20 mins and reconnected.
Have read somewhere could be speed sensor?
Has anyone had success?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
