I managed to acquire an XG300 with no key-fobs. I hate unlocking the door with a key. I managed to get a pair of remotes AND save the codes to the ETAM, but it took a while - I've been searching for info as to which remotes to get, and how to get the car programmed for them, and I have to tell you, it has NOT been a fun deal. I spent a lot of time at hmaservice.com, and perusing various forums and Q&A sites, searching and searching the web, and trying to find the ETAM behind the dash. No one should have to do all that. I found what I needed, and I wanted to share what I learned... so I posted it all here:
http://mlittle.com/Hyundai/remote/Maybe it'll help someone. Enjoy.

Hey all, I just picked up a 99 xg yesterday. got it pretty cheap and overall the car is in great condition. One thing i did notice but wasn't toooo worried about is that 1st gear is soft. when i drive it like a manual 1st gear has good acc. off the mark but completely dies at about 3-4000rpm. if i change down to second the power comes back and the car flies. Am i just expecting too much out of my 'ol 99?

Will a 3.5 bolt directly up in place of my stock 3.0l? The 3.5 has a lot more power so I'm thinking about picking one up.
How is gasmileage on the 3.5 as opposed to the 3.0l?
Thanks for the help

Ok so I have been wondering for a bit if the sonata suspension and the XG suspensions are similar. Reason being is the XG rolls a bit more than i would like while turning and would like a beefy stabalizer bar. I was thinking either the Sonata or the Santa Fe, I think they all share the same platform.
Also, kind of a dumb question but is a shock absorber and a strut the same thing. I see them both available at different website but cost the same.
Thanks in advance!

I have a 2005 XG 350 with 33,000 miles on it and I use Pennzoil Synthetic 5W-20. When I accelerate from 0 to about 40 it sounds like I have a valve train rattle. I t quiets around 40 MPH. When I had it in for it's 3o,ooo mile check up I brought it up and they drove it and said it sounded OK to them, I'm deft in one ear and I can hear it, so much for them. I was thinking maybe it could be the hydraulic lash adjusters and if so how do you quite them? All is quite when it idles and it sounds OK when you rev the engine up sitting still. Could this be a transmission noise?

I have a 2002 xg350 with 84k miles. The timimg belt has never been replaced.
I called Hyundai dealers and auto repair shops and received varying quotes ranging from $550 to $900. The trade in value of the vehicle is about $3,500. The car does run great.
Two repair shops told me not to replace the belt given the cost and likelihood that other things will go wrong with the car. They also said that the belt is generally good to 120k miles. Is this good advice? Does it make economical sense?
I realize that no one can predict the future but I would like to hear some educated opinions on this matter.
Thank you

Hi
I have an 01 grandeur xg , and When i drive over bumps or rough roads ive noticed a sound like somethings loose in the boot/trunk.
So i thought it was the spare tyre/jack that was loose, so i tightened them all and it still makes the sound.
I shake the car up and down when its stationery no noise, only when driving.
Could it be the shock absorbers or suspension, has anyone else had this problem.
Thanks.

Hi All,
My Gradeur XG 3.0 is stalling at the lights. Engine just turns off. Dash lights are still on.
Also, when travelling at e.g 100kph, car tachometer starts to flicker up and down a few thousand revs (engine revs stay the same) and then car turns off at 100kph.
Took it to local Hyundai who had it for three days who cant locate the problem. (no fault codes being recorded).
Hyundai first indicated it could be the Air Flow metre and tried to charge me for one however, I managed to ask for a loan one from the workshop and try it out. No success. ($500 saved though by not having to purchase the AFM...)
Hyundai now say that it can also be alot of other things (e.g. Crank/Cam sensors, loom, ECU) but want to charge for every part and labour regardless of if its the problem...
This is becoming a really dangerous issue as it stalls a few times a day everywhere/anywhere and its my wifes car with 2 year old baby.
Anyone found this problem and resolution:
Your assistance/advise would be really appreciated!
p.s car radio also turns on when it wants to (but thats a minor issue for now)

XG 350 - The belt tension pulley bracket is broken. How do I go about replacing the bracket myself at home.
I changed the Alt. and was trying to tighten the belt. The adjustment bolt seemed to be frozen. I tried to use a pry-bar on the pulley to free it, but I broke the braket off. Now The braket that the tension pulley is attached to must be replaced. There are 4 bolts that appear to hold the braket on, but I think they may also hold the engine motor mount bracket in place. The 4 bolts all with 14 mm heads are located above the oil filter and bracket assembly, which also looks like it must be removed to get to the broken AC/Alt. bracket.
Does anyone have experence with this problem?
Thanks,
Louis

Hi all, I bought a new air filter element thinking that fitting it would take about 3 minutes (like in the old days!), but it looks a bit more complicated and I don't want to damage anything.
The air filter is a large box with clips on the front edge and hinges at the back lower edge. Problem is the large intake hose which has at least one electronic sensor in it, is not flexible enough to allow the lid to open wide enough to change the element.
Whats the trick here? Do I have do disconnect the hose and where would I do that (there are several worm clamps along its length).
It's probably really simple, but then I think I might be as well!
Thanks

Hi,
I have a 2000 Hyundai Grandeur and for some reason all of my power windows have stopped working. I suspect its a fuse that's blown, but i'm not sure where the fuses are located for the Power Windows and what type they are in order for me to replace.
I heard that if a power windows fuse has blown, that it may be due to one of the power window motors malfunctioning thus causing the fuse to blow. How can I determine if this is the case?
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and how to resolve this issue please?

Hello all,
Just did some cleaning of the throttle body and I wanted to clean the egr but; I am not sure of where it is!
Also, I would like to take my (Intake? on the front) manifold off to clean some of the grime. If I was to take the housing below the manifold off, would I need a new gasket?
Does the manifold need a gasket, or can I just pull that off and put back on without a problem?
Its pretty grimy in there and I want/need to clean it out. Anyone feel free to message

Where is the fuel pump relay located ? I changed my fuel pump over the weekend due to the car stalling on low fuel. Pretty sure it was the fuel pump, so changed it. Both before and now I'm getting no static pressure, so now I suspect it's the fuel pump relay.
However the HMASERVICE website electronic schematics make no mention of a fuel pump relay in the engine bay. Is it located elsewhere ?

Hi all
I've got a problem with my 1999 XG, the fuel gauge has stopped working, My mechanic believes its the float and senders in the tank that have failed but he told me Hyundai kept sending him the wrong float (my car has a small float and Hyundai sent two so far that are too big) the cost of the part is extreamly expensive and I was wondering if anyone knows what part number the float for the xg is and if any are available from members, The mechanic also said it could be the wireing. how do we find out which has the fault, ie if I dont need to buy the tank float it would make me a happy guy.
best regards

Hello all,
Alright ,
My grandeur is lacking power and acceleration. It has had the timing belt replaced recently, plugs, leads, spark plug seals (was leaking oil on top plugs), MAf sensor and Battery (is now the best bosch 68), oil/filter and a tune.
The car starts fine, sounds a little of time but runs ok. In first and second it seems to be fine...it's when you hit third gear you feel a sudden power loss, foot could be down to the floor and the car feels like it just cant pull the weight. Fourth and fifth are worse. After getting the MAF sensor replaced 2 days ago it made a big difference in economy and a little in power.
What I don't get is that you can put your gently push on the accelerator and the revs will jump a certain amount ( about 500-600 on what seems to be like a pre throttle?) but it just wont "open up" any more. not a problem when in neutral....
What are possible problems??
The only thing the mechanic found was maf & battery.
Throw some ideas my way
Thanks!

I've read through the archives and the issue of DIY timing belt changes has come up and the recurring answer is always that the timing belts are a huge PIA and way more troublesome than other makes/models.
What exactly makes that so? Is it that there is so much stuff to remove to get to it, or something else?
I've got a ton of stuff off of my engine right now so that I can do some other things including drive belts, and a timing belt is needed. My intake is out for spark plugs/wires/coils, my air cleaner box is out for a P/S hose replacement, the drive belts are off for replacement, and the right axle is out for replacement. So is there another consideration that should keep me from pulling more stuff out and doing the timing belt too?

So: tranny shudder and hursh gear change.
Firstly find out the symtoms that mach with Your bad riding from hmaservice.com
Big % that it is caused by clogged or low resitance (or both) valve solenoid (attached to valve body). Every solenoid valve has its own function. You dont have to take tranny down to get valve-body unmounted from tranny.
I have had to change few solenoid valves, and fixed these problems:
* Hurhs reverse gear engagement, it was reverse solenoide
* Hursh engagment from N to 1st and from 4 to 3 gearchange, it was Underdrive solenoide valve
* Hursh 3 to 4, it was Overdrive solenoide valve.
As my electrisity alternator was bad it had had a bad effect on solenoids (and also shaft speed sensors and oil temp. sensor, water temp. sensor). Firsty I changed reverse solenoid with faulty TCM (they both went bad at the same time). Then I changed alternator to new one, after I changed the alternator the gearchange went from shudder to hursh banging into gears - thats when I took the tranny down and apart to investigate. I cut open and checked the torque converter and valve-body. The converter was fine, but there was some black **** in the valve-body. Also tranny one cogwheel had get some little damage from banging gearchange, so it was bludged to fine again.
So ofcorse there was metal dust on the shaft speed sensors , also on the magnet on bottom of the tranny. Its normal they say - after big milage.
I reccon that metal dust just might clog the solenoid valves or even the valve-body.
*So if You change the solenoids and check Your trannys valve-body (for bleeding or cloggings ) there is big % Your ride will be smooth. You dont have to take tranny down to do this.
With this also
* change ATF (tranny fluid),
* tranny external filter,
* clean the magnet on the bottom of the tranny.
If this doesnt help take the tranny down: check the torque converter and cogwheels to find some damage, but I tell You there is a big % that there is none. I must say I took my tranny down way to early. But still it costed me a lot less then a new used tranny (with a risk it might be not perfect). To say there isnt really one to get from the market at the first place, not for 2.5l and in Estonia.

Where can a nice cold air intake setup be found for these XG's. I've done a lot of searching, and I cant really even find one.. except one rather ghetto looking one that I dont care to spend money on to see if it works.
Any ideas or input? Or should i just find larger diameter tubing and clamp an open ended K&N onto the other end?

So I found that my right side outer CV boot spilled it's guts and it's been clicking on turns. I'm now trying to remove the axle, but the connection at the intermediate bearing bracket won't let lose. I've pried the **** out of it to no avail and managed to mangle the dust shield and bearing bracket shield in the process. I'm about ready to take a small sledge and knock the **** out of it. Anyone have a smarter idea I could try first?
I need to fix this problem and move on to the next... leaking P/S pressure hose.

I have had my XG for about a month now and keep noticing a sound that's driving me crazy. Basically, I can hear it at very slow speeds. Mainly when I accelerate from completely stopped, or when I am slowing down and have almost stopped. I thought it was only when AC was on, but it's not. The best way to describe it is a grinding sound. Almost like a diesel engine or a noisy fan. It sounds like it's coming from the driver side under the hood. It doesn't seem to be hurting anything, except my ears. Please help. It really takes away from the smoothness of the car.
Thanks in advance.

Well long story short, since day one of owning this car, it's been constant cels' and things breaking. Not cheap things, either.
I'm the second owner, the previous owner has a 100k 10year factory mile warranty, the a pile of receipts of repairs a mile thick. For one, this car has sludge at 88k miles. It actually just turned like 102k miles.
Well anyways I've had a constant cel on for... 5 months? More? But hte car drove great. One day, magically the cel went away. And the car drove even better, and got even better gas mileage. About 24 mpg in constant stop and go, and about 32mpg @ 75mph.
Well one day, upon already driving it 4-5 times that day, I parked it in a parkinglot. I went back 15minutes later to leave, and when i started it there was a GOD-AWEFUL loud lifter ticking noise. It was bad. And since this *lovely* piece of korean engineered **** has sludge and burns OIL w/ only 102k miles on it, I figured it needed a touch up of oil. So I put some in. No difference. So, the next day I put in Lucas Oil.. figured it being thicker would help w/ the noise. No difference. Now remember, there is no CEL on at this time. And also since the ticking came there has been a HUGE loss in power.
Well I'm just out right now cruising with the family, and the car all of a sudden popped on a cel. Then, seconds later the car started ticking louder. And started clanking around So I pulled off to the side. As soon as I came to a stop, before even putting in Park, the motor shut off. So I check oil. There was plenty. Coolant. There was plenty. Now, the engine DID feels super hot.. but since there was fluids I know its not because of that. Funny thing is, the temp gauge says normal. And there are not other ligts on except the CEL and airbag light.
So I started teh car, and it's clanking around but still running. AFter a few seconds, dies. So I started again to make it the mile home, and it made it. But it was clanking and ticking and crazy ****.
Any ideas? I'm FURIOUS that a car w/ such little mileage and that was taken care of so meticulously can have more problems than my 4 240k mile GM cars i've owned
HELP!!!

With your XG's? Just curious. I average a solid 21mpg in the city, and anywhere from 26-32mpg on the highway.. about 70-75 w/ no ac on is about 32mpg.. 80mph w/ the ac on is around 26-28, depending.
What do you guys get?
