Hello, I'm new to the Hyundai community and I recently picked up a 2009 Hyundai Accent GS. I've been using 93 octane and I was just wondering if this was a good idea and the pros and cons of using higher octane in my Accent.
Thank a bunch=)

Tirerack.comDoes this look worth it? I have zero knowledge of suspension.
Are these cheap, expensive, or normal?
Also how easy would it be to install? Could I do it in my own garage?
Thanks in advance!

So this is a bit odd. Obviously, I just bought my Accent but the fuel economy i'm seeing is awfully poor, and i've been driving pretty darn sedately. Now, i'm only going through my 1st tank, but i've used 1/2 a tank and have only traveled 90 miles! So that means i'm averaging about 14 mpg in combined city and highway driving with little to no stop and go traffic and the car has never been over 3500 rpm.
Theories?

So I emailed KSpec just now (and they got back to me in under 2 minutes!!). They have an Engine Mount Set for Verna 00-06
http://www.kspec.com/list.php?ac_id=69&ai_id=1599 , so I figured it'd be worth asking.
I asked:
QUOTE
Are you guys going to make a KSPEC Engine Mount Set for Verna set for 2008 Hyundai Accents? I would buy a set if you had one.
They replied:
QUOTE
Thank you for visiting kSpec.
Dear *****,
We do not currently have one for newest Verna.
But if you purchase $199 one and if you tell us your engine type, we can make one for you.
If you need this in hurry, you can do this way.
And if you don’t need this urgently, you can simply wait J
Thank you and have a good day.
Sales Team
kSpec.com
So does that mean that we very possibly could have someone that will make us Poly Engine Mounts??? If so, this could be awesome. For twice the price of the engine damper, we could have more rock-solid performance. And I suppose if you added the damper in addition to engine mounts, you'd see even more results.
This could be epic.
But what do they mean "if you tell us your engine type"?
Does that mean they'll custom make ones for me or what?

Hey,
So I got an Accent Sedan GLS 09, base. Well sort of base, it came with bluetooth, and XM/CD Audio System.
So other than those two "comfort"/"luxury" features, everything else is Manual. Side mirrors, windows, seats, locks not even a rear wiper.
I'd love to get my hands dirty and do some one by one upgrades whenever I've saved enough. I've done a few readings here and there, haven't owned the car for more than 3 months, so not much knowledge has been acquired yet. But I thought i'll ask and see if i'm on the right track here etc.
My plan is to start off with power windows, locks and side view mirrors (heated side view mirrors is a plus but depends on price difference.) So I looked at the fuse boxes and found in the guide that there are spots for these options, so this means this car is capable. (something which I didn't doubt but since being a newbie, being thorough is best).
First thing I figured out, is that the door interior paneling has to be changed to ones that has support for the power buttons. I found many kits online to convert manual windows to automatic, so I guess i've got narrow them down and see if there is compatibility issues.
Secondly, Power locks and remote trunk unlock and alarm system.
Thirdly, I couldn't find much in terms of powered and heated side view mirrors, so any help/info in that regards would be appreciated.
Lastly, (and leastly), Power seats, remote starters. If I had to choose, it'll be the remote starter, then power seats would be last. I have a feeling power seats are a bigger job than just replacing tracks.. or I might be wrong. Also cruise control and steering wheel controls and a navi system.
So, with all that said and done, here are some questions..
1) How do I know what are my options? What is compatible or not? what will fit or not? or what they even look like. I know I have to choose a panel (trim?) with power windows. But as you can see in
this link I get no illustrations or photos. Should I simply trust them? Also what about pricing? Do I have other choices? OEM? Aftermarket? is there such thing as aftermarket when it comes to doors?
2) That site does not have alarm systems or remote lock/unlock systems. This means I have to look else where. I don't mind some recommendation as to what are good brands etc.. But i'd like to know what to look for in such systems. Range is on top of the list, then wether the system honks/beeps flash lights, light on delay, panic, how loud is the alarm and what kind of noise it makes.
3) I belive the steps in the install would be, remove current paneling, place all the wiring I need, even though rear door paneling is not going to change, I'll just make the wires and feed them into the door, then somehow keep them from snaking themselves out of the door. Then when it comes time for rear door panel change, I have all the wires I need (power locks and power windows).. Also run a wire all the way back to the trunk from remote trunk open, then install actuator.
4) Will I have to completely remove the cable and manual trigger for the trunk? Or can that and the electronic co-exist? Just incase battery dies (i'm not expecting it for such a new car though) or something goes wrong electrically, I can do it manually.
5) If side mirrors are to be changed later in the game, would the entire paneling have to be removed? Or just the part between the lever and the door. I'd like to know if I'm better off waiting till I get all the parts then do the installation or can it be done in steps, and still be able to have a car to drive around in between installs.
I'm not expecting a step by step instruction list, just maybe pointers to where I can read and research, as we all know not everything on the internet is dependable. Also I'd like to hear from experts and if anyone actually attempted such a project.
Thanks for any help.

Fuel Filler Door
Radar Detector
Wheels:17'' Liquid Metal Velocity Wheels 17x7.54-100
Kumho Ecsta All-Season Tires 205/40-17
Now that all my modifications have been listed now it is time to go on with the build. See ya when I am finished!!!!
1. Front lower bars and rear anti-sway bar

2. Engine Damper

3. Drilled and slotted rotors
Front lower bars installed! Sorry, these were the only good pictures I could take. The longer one in the front took forever to install. It was so hard. But, the one in the back was quite easy. I just used a simple jack to jack up each side. It is a pretty simple install. All you have to do it take out each screw and add the bars and put it back in. You are going to need an extension. And also, for the front ones make sure you get the nut in top to stay still other wise the screw will stay in place.

And also, I purchased myself a DOMO doll for the inside of my windshield. THAT IS TOO JDM TYTE YO! I don't know why I bought it I just thought it was pretty cool/funny.

But, I will keep updating this thread as my other parts are put on. And I am ordering my headers soon.

So I guess I have a late model 08 since I've got the XM radio and accessory jack which makes me wonder if it's worthwhile to spend the 10 bucks a month for the 60 channel all music pack. Anyone keep their XM active? How do you like it? How many commercials are there? I don't know if I should activate my stock XM unit or get an aftermarket unit that's an HD radio (what a gimmick name...) so I can pick up some extra stations for free.
$10/month worth it you think?

Yes, the only Hyundai in the game will be the Genesis Coupe. But the Yaris, the Fit, the Versa, the Aveo, and the Fiesta have all made it in. Considering that the Accent's been in the top 3 in the car class of all these vehicles since like '06, that's a pretty impressive snub if you ask me. I suppose even game developers can't help but fall to the 'lol its a hyundai lol', despite the fact that the Aveo's made by quite possibly the worse Korean car manufacturer. Oh well, can't win 'em all I guess

I have an '07 Accent 2-door hatchback with the stock 14" steel wheel configuration. Looking ahead, I know that I will want to swap them out for something a bit more sporty. My question is how do I go about deciding which tire and wheel combination works best? I'm sure there are lots of combos that will fit. Heck, I could even fit 12" wheels on the car if I
really wanted to.

I can't imagine that "because it looks cool" is the number one deciding factor. What are the technical deciding factors? I am looking for something that is lighter than stock and helps with cornering. I understand that I will need a stiffer suspension setup too but I'm focusing on the tires and wheels.
From a quick glance (and I will look more here shortly), it seems that 205/40/R17 is the largest and widest tire and wheel combo that can fit on the Accent without rubbing or bottoming out the car. My budget will be $1000 and not a penny over. I know it's possible to get some combo packages for less but I want to allocate some extra in order to get something that can survive wet and snowy weather, not crack after 10k miles, and not wear out too soon. My Accent is Sapphire Blue.
Any recommendations?

Hi all! Long time lurker here, though mostly in the older models' forum.. We traded in our old, reliable, but now-very-clunky 98 Accent for a 2010 Blue.
I'm already loving the thing, even though I've only driven it home from the dealership, and nowhere else (last night).
Something is bugging me, though. The Passenger Airbag window said "OFF" even though my husband was sitting in the passenger seat all the way home (only about 10 minutes). Admittedly, he's underweight, but surely 140 lbs should be enough to make it switch to "ON", right? Is this reason enough to bring it back to the dealership? Should he have been sitting "a certain way"? Or maybe I should have made him jump down on the seat?

I'd really appreciate your input, guys. There's rarely anyone in the passenger seat, but in the even that there IS someone, I would like the security the air bag affords us...

Finally got my front strut bar from Ultra Racing Canada and decided when I got it that the stark white color it comes in was a '**** naw' and quickly painted it to the same color as the rest of the car. While I was doing that, I figured I'd paint the engine cover since it was a boring all black instead of the nice two-tone previous model years get and the engine damper itself. I guess it makes it pretty easy to see which parts are new in my engine bay if I keep this theme up.

Okay, let's get this show started. First off, there are
NO problems using the Ultra Racing front strut bar and the engine damper together on the same bolt. I know people with the DC Sports (official Hyundai part) strut bar had to slot their bars to make room, but you can put the bracket for the damper under the strut bar and still have enough of the bolt to screw the nut down on nice and tight without running out of thread on the bolt. I'm also fairly positive you can make it sit on top of the strut bar too, I just haven't bothered trying it yet. I may fiddle with it later though for kicks.
However, you
WILL NEED TO GET LONGER BOLTS FOR THE DAMPER to make it fit. I repeat, you
WILL NEED TO GET LONGER BOLTS FOR THE DAMPER to make it fit! So before you get started, take one of those two bolts you get from the NRG damper kit down to your local automotive supply shop (Canadian Tire, NAPA, whatever) and talk to whoever you have to talk to to get the same size and grade bolt (8.8), just half an inch to an inch longer.
Note: the longer bolts that you need to buy only applies to those of you who plan on getting the Ultra Racing front strut bar. For those of you who don't have a strut bar or won't be getting one, the bolts that come with it will be just fine. And for those of you who have other brands of strut bars, I'm entirely not sure what you'll need. You're kind of on your own for that.
Also keep in mind that I did all this with an '09 Hyundai Accent Sport. Things may vary with older/newer/American/International Accents.
What you'll get with the NRG engine damper is a box with:
- the damper
- 4 black rubber pieces (you don't need these)
- 4 brackets; two long pieces, two short pieces. These are not extras, you may need to use two shorts to make it fit in your bay, or two longs, or a long and a short, etc
- 2 bolts (you'll be replacing these)
- 2 nuts
- 4 washers
The tools you'll need are:
- one 17mm wrench
- one 17mm socket + ratchet (1/4 or 3/8" up to you)
- one 12mm socket + extention bar for whatever size ratchet you use
- one 22mm wrench (it's not a perfect fit but it'll do the job)
- optional: one gearwrench 12mm (if you have one, you may want to use it, otherwise don't worry about it)
Now, you've popped your hood and you're staring your engine in the face, confused and possibly even a little scared. Or not. Anyway, you'll be looking for your engine mount in the left part of your engine bay. It's in this picture, it's the part that the bracket is bolted on to.

Where the bracket is bolted on to, you may find a black cylindrical weight. Within it is a 12mm bolt, you'll want to use your extension bar here and unbolt it. Lay the weight away or do whatever you want to do with it. No longer needed. Now, within this area, look at the area between the mount and the closest bolt on the strut tower. (In my first picture, the strut towers are the towers that the strut bar is attached to). Look for anything that might get in the way of the damper. For me, the biggest problem was one of the metal lines getting in the way.
So for you '09ers, I've saved you the fiddling time. Unscrew the nut for the strut bolt you'll be attaching the bracket to. Take the two small brackets and place one upwards and towards the back on the strut bolt, like how I have pictured here:

And then place the second one upwards and to the left like I have pictured here:

Screw the nut in place on the top bracket finger tight and then the bolt from the weight to keep the brackets more or less in place but not tightened. Put one washer on one of those
longer bolts you bought - you DID buy those bolts right? - and thread it through the damper + bracket. Put another washer and then screw the nut in finger tight. Do the same for the top bracket.
Now, before you tighten everything really good, inspect the area around the damper. Make sure that it's not going to touch or interfere with any parts around it. You definitely do not want it rubbing up against anything it's not supposed to. If it doesn't, then keep playing with brackets and positioning until you make it work without hitting anything. Once you're good to go, tighten the two brackets in place with your 12mm. And then use your 17mm wrench to hold one nut on the damper in place while using the socket+ratchet to tighten the night. Tighten it
tight. Do it for both. Wait! You're not done yet! Remember that 22mm wrench? Use it and the 17mm wrench and tighten the damper itself. I did not do this the first time I installed it and the damper literally vibrated itself to pieces. Very necessary that you do this!
Once you're done, it's done. If you want, keep the tools you used in your trunk just in case you need to tighten it (you'll know, believe me, you'll hear it) or if you want to take it off for whatever reason.
Speaking of trunks, look what I found in mine today after visiting the salvage yard...

Looks like that taillight project I wanted to try is a go 200 bucks later. Picked up a free projector from an FX35 too. One more and the headlight retrofit is a go too

Yo guys.
My mats, mudguards and cargo net came today.
The rear mats are just a lift and throw affair, but the front ones are clipped down in an impossible to remove sort of way.
I tried prying up the mat, which worked but the clip itself was still screwed to the floor. I then tried unscrewing the mat, but the entire piece came up and I surely can't squeeze the top part of the clip through the rubber mat the way I did with the carpet.
Is there something I'm missing? Should I just pry apart the plastic clip after I unscrew it off the peg in the floor? Or should I just swing by a dealership and try and have them explain it/put them in for me?
Peace peace peace.

All is well, I've recently went through my 1 year cancer free checkup and all is great.
As most have you might have heard, I picked up a 2009 Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS, been busy putting on the Kilometers, But riding season is done up here.
The car is in a preparation for a rewire of the headlights and stereo system. I'm also looking at moving the stereo system in-place of the rear seat. Since my rear seats have been used all of 3 times since I've had it, I don't think I'll miss them.
As for performance work. not much since I've decided that the car will remain my yearly driver, too much power wouldn't be good in the winter. Not to mention I'm burning off rubber every 20,000 KMs so more power would mean more tires. My main power ride will be the bike.
I'm dressing up this car to be my daily driver and to ride in comfort. So items on the list.
1.Cleanup any and all installs.
a. Stereo - move to rear seat location
b. Headlights -replace with OEM style for winter
2.Replace racing seats with a better set
a. More cushion, better support
3.Finish off heated seat install in both seats.
So yah the winter will be full, all this and I'm moving to a new house later in the spring, we're shopping now and looking hard. Will finally have my own garage to play with my rides.

Whattup guys.
Today, after me and my girlfriend get out of class, I think she's gonna help me go debadge Accent SE.
I'm a little nervous, because I think I want to wash and wax it afterwards, but its starting to get pretty cold at my college (Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY). It's probably mid-50's out....do you guys think that's too cold for a wax?
If not, what IS the coldest you can wax, because I know you're supposed to wax every time you wash, and in the winter you gotta wash it all the time...so.........
?
What do you guys think.

its october 16th and here in Massachusetts we got out first snow last night:( This is a very bad sign because we dont usually get snow until at least November. This is going to be the first winter with my car and I want to make sure I keep it in good shape because i cant keep her in the garage.
What do you owners do for the cold months with snow? Should I be running a different type of oil?I have not gotten my 60k mile inspection done, im@ around 64,900 miles right now, should i bring it in for that? I was waiting until i got more $ to do that.
Are there any other things i should know for the winter? I cant get different tires, im sure that would help a lot but i am wondering as far as engine maintenance what i should do.
I also have put de-icer windshield fluid in, thats all i can think of besides warming my car up before i go anywhere, thanks for the help everyone.

Heyo, guys. Happy halloween.
I'm about to order some all weather mats for the front and rear of my Accent SE, and I'm thinking I should go ahead and pick up the front/rear mudguards as well. Have people found these to be effective? The front wheels especially love throwing up little leaves and bits of dirt off the road onto the side of the car.
The all weather mats are absolutely essential in NY's Mid-hudson valley--there's TONS of snow/salt out, and I have the black interior.
Over the next year or so I'm going to get this stuff for the car, I think in this order:
All weather mats
Mudguards
Tint
Cargo net
Cargo mat
Front strut bar (this is what I'm most excited about, I'd say)
and finally the SRI. I've head the SRI is mostly good for noise and a little bit more low-end torque, but the actual power increase is not really tangible. Any input? Anyway its the most expensive accessory for our car on Hyundaiaccessorystore.com, and seems like I'll get more enjoyment out of the strut bar.
So...mudguards? Sri? What you guys think about em.

Every now and them (more often now) I'm getting a knock sometimes a twang sound coming from my cars drivers side rear.
It seems to happen on corners and sometimes after hitting a bump.
It's almost like somethings hanging down in there and swinging loose.
But I see nothing odd, and no sounds if I bounce the car.
Any guesses?
Going in on the 5th for the usual 'we don't hear it' routine and getting my after market cruise fixed again.
Sometimes the cruise makes the car idle high/fluctuate in neutral but goes away if i flick the switch on/off, last time they said it was a loose linkage.
I regret having the dealer put this cruise on (they supplied it).

I have a new 2009 Accent Hatchback with the XM Radio and Aux Input. The CD and Radio have plenty of volume. However, when I plug my MP3 Player into the Aux Input, I have to turn the volume way up on both the Stereo and the MP3 Player. I'm using a very good Aux Cable. Does any one else have this problem with the Aux Input vloume level?
NOTE: I checked my MP3 Player and Cable on my 2008 Elantra and the volume level is fine. The Accent uses a different stereo player than the Elantra.
Any thoughts on this?

Well, I picked up the new (to me) 08 Accent GS today (pictures coming soon). I had to get rid of the POS I was driving - a 2004 pt cruiser GT that was ALWAYS broken. Stupid Chrysler.... Anyway, I'm thrilled to be rocking the small hatchback again. The one I purchased is a metallic blue (i'm sure there's an official name for it....) & manual transmission version. Not many options, but the previous owner took good care of it and I got a folder full of maintenance records with the purchase. basically the only options it has are the smoker's package (change cup I suppose since I wouldn't smoke in my car) and the XM ready radio (was that standard or an option anyway) Things changed from a stock GS that I've noticed are: 15" alloys from I think an Elantra GT (maybe?), tinted windows, cruise control added. In the folder I found something talking about adding extra sound deadening, and at some point speakers, an amp, and an amp kit were installed - pity though the amp kit and speakers I think were all removed before I got it.
Not too many plans for it at the moment. Probably add an aftermarket power windows and locks kit at some point. I like fog light so i'll probably add some. Maybe a sunroof depending on the price. I've had to promise the girlfriend I wouldn't be stupid with this car since I sank a fortune into building a ford focus turbo a couple cars ago.

I'll get some pics later this afternoon and get them posted up. It's not a bad looking little car.

Alright, so today i was changing the oil in the accent and after i took off that big plastic shroud to get to the oil filter, i notice this white/clearish piece just hanging out there. I checked in the engine bay to see if there was a matching piece to the one that i just found...no luck. I snapped some shots of this thing to see if any of your guys know what it could possibly be.
It looks like a cap of some sort that the one end maybe snaps into place so it doesn't move.....thoughts?

I'm stumped.

So, yesterday an idea popped into my mind. Me and one of the carpenters from work cut all the pieces, and i put it together when I got home.
I will be carpeting it when I am finished so that it will look like it is just the back of the seat.
Specs--1.29 cubic feet and ported. Realistically, this is a little big for the 8", but will be perfect for a 10" sub.
I AM NOT FINISHED! Still have to put in the terminals and buy the carpet. Start saving for a 10" sub also.
The bucket is just in there for reference so you can see how much room is left.

Sunday I installed a Hyundai Ram Air Kit.. So nice.. And the best thing of it is.. It's blue!!! My car sounds a tad bit more aggressive sounding now when I accelerate. Driving her around today I did notice a bit more power too. I'm happy.
If anyone is interested, I do have photos of the step by step installation, although when I was installing it, the Hyundai Directions were very descriptive and we didnt run into major issues. We did have one issue that left us racking our brains when we were mounting the heat shield but it worked out..
Some pics

Unlike my Grand Prix, the HID conversion in my 08 Accent is scattering light up and needs to be adjusted to point down. Does anyone know how to adjust vertical aim of the headlights on 08 Accent? Thanks.

Hey everyone, first-timer here.
So here's the deal. I'm coming home from Iraq in August, so I'll have a little bit of money to throw towards it, but I have a 2006 Hyundai Accent, and I need a way to use my iPod to listen to podcasts and whatnot on my commute to and from school. Everywhere I look online, adapters are only made for 2008+ Accents. Is there any way to install an auxiliary port or something besides buying one of those cheap tuner things that require a weak radio station? I'd like to keep my factory radio, but if that's not possible I'd want it sharp looking and not too fancy. Thanks in advance!

so i took the bumper off of my 08 Accent because some a** left me a cute little mark on the front end while it was parked >:(
a few issues i noticed that i thought might be helpful if you ever find the need to remove it
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!!!! nothings worse then blowing your airbags up accidently while fixing something simple lol
be EXTREMELY gentle with all the little pop-in-pins dont strip them its very easy to do so if you're having trouble with them take a small flat head screw driver and put it underneath the peice you are trying to remove and pry up ever so gently....dont go ape s*** youll break something
you will have to remove the inner fender covers so removing of the wheels will be helpful with the inner fender covers there are three screws in the door side of the fender that will involve some prying to remove them but do be careful not too destroy anything or scratch the paint....there is also one more pop-in-pin right below those three screws that needs to be removed
once the bumper is off (it wil involve some prying grunting and what not) NEVER force anything....if it feels attached...it probably is double and triple check to see if there is a pin or a bolt you missed
now that the bumper is off removing of the grille is pretty straight forward....dont lose any of the billion mini-screws that hold it on and you're gonna need some strong thumbs to remove the bottom strip of plastic that serves as a mini-air dam as well as a scrape surface for steep driveways and speed bumps
im pretty sure that i uploaded a pic with this soo thats essentially what it should look like when its done =) hope this helps anyone in there quest for removing a front bumper

New to the forum, had a question. Just purchased a used 2007 Hyundai accent with the original CD player/car stereo. Does anyone know if there's a way to hook up an auxiliary input for an ipod? I assume if there were a way it would be in the back of the stereo...is there an input jack back there?
thanks

I have anew 2009 Accent w/ auto transaxle. The owners handbook says to use SP III fluid. The only fluid at the locals parts house that mentions SP III is Synthetic. A call to 4 parts houses produced the following results: 3 said the right fluid is all-purpose Dexron/Mercon, which I happen to have for my old Ford Ranger. One said you cannot use any standard fluid and have to buy the stuff at the Hyundai dealer. What's correct?

Hey Guys,
I'm new to the forums but I need some opinions. I am thinking of getting wheels/rims with these specs:
Size: 17"x 7"
Bolt Pattern: Universal 4x100 and 4x114.3
Off Set: +42mm
Right now I have the 14" stock on the 2009 accent GLS 4-door.. My question is will these wheels fit on my Accent and along with the rims, would I have to buy tuner lugs, valve stems, or hub centric rings?
Also, which tires would you recommend? I was looking at 205 40 17 Durun Tires.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Last, what do you guys think about these rims (17") going on the Accent:

Hi all.
I just bought a new Accent. I saved about 2 grand ditching the radio. As I was going to install an aftermarket one anyway... it seemed like a no-brainer.

So, the first thing I did was hop onto the crutchfeild site. And as i did more and more research I've noticed a lot of complaints about the schoche (sp?) dash kit. So I decided to go with the Metra kit. So I bought the 2009 wire harness, and dash kit. 70-7303, and the 99-7321.. as well as a Pioneer DEH-P710BT

I followed all instructions down to the T, and I didn't like how the radio sat in the kit with the cage on... it seemed far too deep in.. So i went ahead and mounted the iso plastic pieces... didn't make a whole big of a difference in depth, but allowed me to put the trim ring to make it look stock..
My question is... is there any way to make the radio less deep with the kit i've bought?
Also, i found another possibility, but i'll have to wait till I get the part from the dealer..
