This is my first post here, and I know his has been covered (I did the search), Is it ok to use a K&N drop in filter if I am careful with the amount of oil I use on the filter? I been getting the P1128 code off and on. I cleaned with MAF cleaner and it went off for a few weeks. When it came on this last time I just got a new sensor. Now it is off and I would like for it to stay off. My filter isnt bad but I want a new one anyway. Was thinking about K&N but have read that some have had trouble with them oiling MAF. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hey all,
We just got my gf a 2005 Hyundai Accent with 31k miles on it last week. We were going up a big hill yesterday (the tranny is auto) and it downshifted to make the hill and ran at about 3.5k rpms. After cresting the hill and letting off the gas, the car stayed in the lower gear and took about 10 seconds to upshift. This has also happened a few times in normal driving traffic on flat areas....
Anyone know if this car has common problems with this? We are the 2nd owner...is the 100k power train warranty still good?
Thanks!
Graham

2001 Accent 1.6L
Previously my car had a problem running in the rain and the best solution received was to replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires. I have replaced the wires but not the plugs as yet.
I did notice that when I replaced the spark plug wires, one of them, on the end that doesn't connect to a spark plug, was corroded. And inside the plug itself is still corroded.
I'm wondering how I might clean that out without electrocuting myself?
Car is still running badly and the CEL is either on steady or flashing madly. Not that it needs to; I can hear and feel the engine misfiring or hiccuping or otherwise just not running properly. So I'm hoping that changing the spark plugs (again - they're less than a year old!) and cleaning out this connection for the spark plug wire will solve the problem.

Alright, well I have recently purchased a 2000 Hyundai Accent, 1.5l SOHC, automatic. 117k miles. The problem is, it won't shift into overdrive. It appears that the overdrive button works, as the dashboard light turns on and off, but pressing the button has no effect on the transmission, as it still doesn't go into 4th gear. It's 3rd gear all the way down the freeway, which really limits me to cruising at like 60 mph. Any ideas what this could be? The fluid seems alright, and there's enough I believe.

o3 accent losing a bit of power accellerating etc...
did spark plugs , nice wires, feul filter, carb clean, cleaned the k&n filter
runs a bit better now...better fuel economy........still knocks a bit tho
What else can I do to boost my acceleration a little? or generally make the car run better!?
also...is there any really good and healthy fuel/oil additives that anyone reccomends? I'm a bit skeptical about this sort of product but i've heard of good experiences as well.
thanks

I have a 2000 Hyundai Accent 1.5 SOHC that won't start. I'm not really sure if this is in other threads but I can't seem to find anything. So i'll just explain what happened.
I started the a car and started fine took two turns then it just shut off and would not start again. I got the battery changed and it started fine then about an hour later while i was driving the car it shut off then speed decreased and did not start again. Also while I was driving, whenever i hit some bumpy roads my radio and everything would shut off for a second then turn back on. The lights inside the car as well as the headlights and high beams are working fine.
Hope someone has any ideas of what maybe wrong.

Hey there, I just joined the forum the other day and mentioned that i've been having major problems with my engine....i shal explain....
It started off with a check engine light appearing about a year ago but the car has been running fine up untill about 4 months ago when i noticed that the idle had become very rough and acceleration was deteriorating. under heavy accelaration the engine started to develop a small missfire however under normal circumstances the car ran absolutely fine. Then within the last two months it suffered from a severe loss of power and wont rev above 4000rpm. when im driving along i have to feather the throttle and can use about 10mm of travel only otherwise the engine chokes and revs drop untill it nearly stalls. This presents major problems when i encounter hills, the engine has no torque whatso-ever and on motorways i struggle - reli struggle - to reach 70mph unless im going down hill. If for example im accelerating and the revs hit 4000 rpm the check engine light starts to flash and the revs drop to 1500rpm + car almost stops and i cant use the throttle (is this limp mode kicking in??). This morning i went out to the car and when i started it it kept stalling for about 1/2 hour untill finally batt went dead. charged battery and finally got it started with help from a 4.5litre v8 and some jump leads (45 mins it took!) however now the car will not rev above 1200 rpm and check engine light has dissappeared. Someone please help im at a loose end!!! thanks simon
p.s. there is also a very annoying rattle that only occurs between 2500rpm and 3000rpm and seems to be eminating from dashboard. y only at certain rpm? is it something to do with a specific engine vibration at those rpm or it it because that is the cruising (therefore most used) rev range??

Okay, I posted this question awhile back and still haven't found my fuel filter on my '04 Accent. I checked under the rear seat metal cover and even removed the fuel pump and can not find my fuel filter. My Accent does have an early build date of 6/03 if that matters. I 've got 95K on her now and that the only replacement part I haven't done yet. I guess my next step is to jack the car up and look underneath and then call my dealer but I was hoping the gurus at this site would shed some insight.

Me again,
Ok, so the issue is that I can't set the clock on my dash (it displays though).
While looking through the fuses, I noticed that there is a small "clip like" part that is missing from where the clock fuse is inserted in the cab fuse bay. It's kind of orange-ish.
Needless to say, there is no fuse there.
Anyone know if that's what's causing me to not be able to set my clock?

My car is a 2001 Hyundai Accent and less than a year ago my engine dies around 100,000 miles. So my mechanc found a used engine with 50k miles. I payed a grand and less than a year later that engine died at 70,000 miles. I made sure i got the oil changed at the right time and I really took care of it. I really don't understand what could cause the engine to die on me. Considering it was running fine before it died. My mechanic called me up and told me that he found another engine with only 5,000 miles for $650. It will be another 400 for labor. I don't think this is too bad of a deal. The only thing is that the engine is a 2003 but he said it would work alright in my car. I just don't want to end up in the same position for a 3rd time. The rest of the car is in excellent shape. Any suggestions or opinions would be great!

Hi Guys
I just got this yesterday and have some queries.
Does this unit have line outs for amps?
can we add a cd shuttle / stacker? Brand?
Only drove it to work today and hd 2 cd-rs- both played with problems play for 30 seconds or so and stop - plays on, stop - time stops and resuems from same point.. IS this related to the disc or is the player getting stuffed.
Thanks in advance.

2000 1.5L Accent... 68000 mi on car. 2 Codes--P0136 & P0562
Had Quit completely, mechanic said fuel pump-so put in new fuel pump. Then the first mechanic gave up.
Then next mechanic said coil packs, new and car ran for a while. then got P0301=so put new plugs & wires, now get the P0136 & P0562--
this cars starts & idles smooth although it surges. Will rev way up as long as sitting still. Won't get past 2000 rpm when moving though-- also stumbles like it is choked when trying to accelerate, will get up to speed if babied.

Hi all,
I purchased a brand new fuel filter from my local Discount Auto parts with the intention of changing it out this weekend. Well, I pulled the pump up from underneath the back seats and was not able to locate any filter. My guess is that the Accent has a non-serviceable filter integrated with the pump.
At any rate, I bolted the pump assembly back in and the car fired right up. The only problem is the fuel gauge now just reads empty and the CEL came on after a few miles of driving.
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Car is a 2005 Accent. Thanks!
Dave

Got a "Y" Reg 1.3 ...... It has a intermittent stalling problem.... It can go for days behaving itself fine. Then it just stalls.... Then refuses to idle (Runs fine if ya driving) as soon as you put the clutch in (Say for changing gear) ...... On come the dash lights.... As you lift the clutch it just bump starts it & it runs hunky dorey...... When it has a stalling fit @ the lights & i'm in a bad mood

I give it a
Boy RACER stylee rev & that usually sorts it out ....... Anyone got any thoughts ?
Its serviced regularly, just turned 70K miles .... & is generally pretty reasonable other than this minor issue
Pretty huh ...... I just cleaned under here

Hope someone can help, I have been looking at these forums for a few weeks or more. There is a short story which will be first, then the long story.
2000 1.5L Accent...this cars idles smooth although it surges. Will rev way up as long as sitting still. Won't get past 2000 rpm when moving though-- also stumbles like it is choked when trying to accelerate, will get up to speed if babied. 68000 mi on car.
Short story:
After it got to running fairly well, explained in long story. It went to sh--. So I went to Autozone and got a P0301 code--misfire #1, replaced plugs and wires. now I get two codes at same time-- Went to two AZ's. In between disconnected battery to reset.
P0562 = Charging system voltage condition--had battery and alternator checked - NO Problems. AND
P0136 = Heated Oxygen sensor Bank 1 sensor 2 -- it says fix other codes first along with O2 sensor defective, fuel system lean (new fuel pump-see long story)
Long story:
I bought it from a nice person who explained that it was sitting because she had paid too much money to the Hyundai dealer and no results.
Includes:
new cat convt., new O2 sensors, numerous visits to dealer. Car would run ok a few days then crappy, same symptoms as above. Died in road one day and she gave up. She had been in a minor accident, hitting someone from behind, had it fixed (She noted that all problems started after that. Any way i got it and found a loose clamp and bolt, tightend them and was running, but not good. Took it on a 10 mile drive and it bucked, engine light flashed and it quit. Looked under hood and cat conv was red hot, melted plastic air dam. Called AAA and towed it to garage.
Garages story: They diagnosed it needed fuel pump, I said OK and they put in new one, then after a few weeks they said they had given up as to why it would not run--not even start. Charged me and I towed it home. Next mechanics found blown ECU fuse and then bad coil packs. Replace them and it starts and runs pretty good. CEL comes on next day with P0301 for me. And that takes us to the short story.

Hey Gang,
I have an 02' Hyundia Accent with a 1.5. My car died last week when i pulled in my driveway and would start up again, later we found it to be a bad timing belt. From what I've been reading and hearing I might have an "interference" motor.
Being a computer nerd and not knowing too much about cars, my day and neighbor came over the other day and we ripped the engine apart to find a timing belt with a row of missing teeth. The valve cover is even off right now. I got a new belt, but the guy at the autostore told me I might have an be screwed if i have an interference motor. So I'd like to know if I (we) should even go through the work of replacing the belt and putting everything back together, knowing that it could be an interference motor and have to rip it apart again.
Does anyone know how to tell for sure or not? Let me know if you need additional info.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello,
I have a Hyundai accent 2003, which has recently been making a clicking/grinding noise when turning full lock.
It has been slowly getting worse over approximately 3-4 months and the service centre has not been able to give me any answers for this.
Has anyone else had these symptoms?
The sound itself is coming from the steering wheel column, within the car. It has nothing to do with belts or engine, and seems to be an on and off issue, as the services centre said they could not fault the steering or replicate it.
Basically we have been turned away from the service centre and given no answers except you must be mistaken... 4 master technicians have test drove the car and can not find an issue?

My 2001 Accent GSI has had a slight bog/hesitation when accelerating at low revs or under high load for some time. In the last two days, the problem has worsened to the point that the car idles roughly, and feels like it is running on 3 cylinders in the lower end of the rev range. Also, it is now displaying a flashing check engine light. The poor running has coinsided with a dramatic increase in temperature in my area.
I pulled the MAP sensor, and found that it was covered in a film of oil. Also, there was a noticable puddle of oil in the opening in the intake surge tank where the MAP sensor plugs in. I imagine that this is likely a case of a bad PCV valve allowing oil up into the surge tank?
Could the oil on the MAP sensor be the cause of the uneven running? If so, will this necessitate replacement of the MAP sensor, or is there a method of cleaning it?
As an aside, I checked all four plugs, and number 4 (far right when facing the engine) seems to have more carbon/residue build up than the other 3. I have yet to obtain the codes from the ECU, but I imagine that several will have been tripped by the uneven idle and revving.

So I just bought a 2000 Accent 2dr coupe 5sp. Seems to me after following my wife around in her car that the speedo is way off. It seems to indicate 55 mph when traveling at 50 mph. And before you ask yes it has the factory 175/70R13 tires on it. I don't understand this since it is an analog speedo that uses a cable and gear setup correct? Only thing I can figure is somebody swapped out the speedo gear? But see that doesn't make a lick of sense either because the vehicle is completely unmodified. Any help on this matter would be great.
Thanks,

This just began yesterday June 5. Engine cranks but no start. I removed the air filter cover, sprayed ether into the connector tube, and it started right up. At that moment the "check engine" light was blinking. I turned the engine off, closed up the air filter cover, re-started the engine - everything was fine. Car ran and started all day.
This morning same thing, engine cranks but no start. The only change from yesterday is that today the "check engine" did not blink with the air cleaner cover open.
Please help if you can as I am "just a poor boy" who does not want to invest a fortune at the dealership...... Thanks!

For awhile now my car has been making a very strange rattling noise. It only makes the noise when I am stopped but still in gear. It doen't make the noise when I am in park. When I accelerate the noise stops. I Have no clue what this could be. When I am on the highway and I take my foot off the gas I can hear some grinding coming from underneath and I was sitting at a red light when the rattling (it almost sounds like a lawnmower) was at it's loudest the car just shut off and would not start back up. My mechanic said that its the starter. It's not making any sense to me. Why would the starter have anything to do with it? Any other opinions why my car crapped out on me today? I would really appreciate it.

Losing a bit of coolant; for the past month, the overflow bottle empties every week (200 kms or 120 Miles). Budget a bit tight at the moment, but should have some money to spend on repairs... who else has needed head gasket replacement? How much should this cost ? roughly... also when I refill I only use water and no additive... will this have a detrimental effect on the block/head?

Hi all. 1st post. WooHoo!
Just wondering if anyone else has had this prob. The Hatch open warning light and the hatch light itself just started staying on....all the time. I unplugged the hatch light so as not to drain the battery, buy the dash warning light is still on. I couldn't find a sensor on the latch of the hatch, and here's the wierd thing...when i hit the brakes, the light shuts off. I'm thinkin some serious electrical issues here..... Its been two days, and its not draining the battery to extinction yet, but I don't want it to either.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
The instrument panel in my 2002 Hyundai Accent GSI quit working. I pulled the cluster and both bulbs were working (replaced them anyway). All lights and fuses work, including the dimmer. All I can see at night is the speedometer reading, lit by these two bulbs.
There are two holes, covered over, for two other bulbs. They were never installed!
Hyundai dealer has no idea on what could be wrong. I can't see how the white part could have been backlit without these two bulbs. Doesn't make sense.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
