Many people do not realise that Hyundai U.S.A. have provided a free online Workshop Manual for all the Hyundai models that are sold in America.
To use this click :-
http://www.hmaservice.com/ Register (Internet Explorer required).....log-on, using the password they email to you, click `Service Information` & enter your car`s details & click the `Shop` tab.
It might be an idea to bookmark this to your favourites........& remember you can print off sections (or the whole manual!) as required.
Cheers,
Nick.

2002 Accent. I've been all over this car looking for the fuel filter, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Someone said might have to access it under the rear seat.
Thanks.

I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent that suddenly had problems with the air conditioner compressor. Whenever the car's on defrost, the air condition engages and makes a lot of noise and has that burning break smell emanating from the vents. Since it is wintertime I have unhooked the lead wire that engages the air conditioning. I've checked online and the cost of a new air conditioner compressor is about $250-$300.
I am wondering if anyone has ever experienced this problem.
Could it be the clutch or bearings in the compressor?
For now the car is runnable. I am trying to decide if it's worth tinkering with or if I should just have the entire air compressor rebuilt/replaced by a professional.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Guys,
I'm scratching my head on this one. Rain water is getting in to my 2005 Accent somehow. It's coming down from under the dash on both drivers and passengers side. It's coming down near the drivers left foot, over that panel that has the fuse box. And the same place on the passengers side, near their right foot.
The odd thing is that I don't notice it while driving in the rain. The water only comes down when I first move my car after it's been out in the rain. (I'm usually backing up.) And then it stops. I actually had to have a mechanic look at the car recently for a separate problem (wouldn't start, turned out to be a bad relay to the fuel pump), and they tried to find the leak with no luck. They hosed it down good but didn't see anything. However, they also washed it before I picked it up (nice of them) and I noticed that the water was coming down in the same two places, but only after I'd started the car and backed up. The carpet was dry before I moved it.
There is also a big wet spot on the drivers side where my foot rests in front of the gas pedal. (This may be from rain that got in before I noticed the leak -- I had a rubber mat there and it locked the moisture in). The drivers side carpet is beginning to smell of mold.
Any advise is much appreciated. Thanks.

I just purchased a 2001 Hyundai Aceent with 89,000 miles on it. I noticed that when I turn the heat on and I am stopped at a red light, the car sputters. Almost like its not idleing right. Could this be the spark plugs or something else? I am a female, have no idea about cars and this is my first car purchase. Please help!

Hi there im Mike Gillis and im trying to figure out why the Hyundai scoupe 1.5L had more horse power than the Accent 1.5L. can you put a 95 Scoupe turbo motor in a 01 Accent with little mods or would it be worth trying to figure out how to tune the motor its self. Also to my Accent has a low fuel pressure code but every mechanic i talked to says it cant be the fuel pump because the car will die only at 70+ mph trying to figure that out to. let me know thanks

What is the part called that the rubber tube (vacuum line) coming out of the brake booster attaches to on the back of the engine?
It is a check valve. Anyone have the 'Hyundai' name for it?
http://www.hmaservice.com/data/Passenger/H...NG/ejde301a.gifIt is the part that the hose connects to where it says CLAMP. Is this the PCV valve?

So I had my transmission rebuilt about 1000 miles ago because my 4th gear was slipping. When I was driving home tonight I noticed it would not shift into 4th at all and there were no indicator lights on my dashboard saying anything was wrong. So I pulled over for about 30 minutes trying to figure what happened. ODBII scanned it with no codes at all. So eventually I realize I had bumped the overdrive switch off, but the OD OFF light did not illuminate on my dash. It was working perfectly before the transmission was rebuilt. Would they have to mess with something related to that when they rebuilt my transmission? Is it possible the warranty (18 month 18,000mi) would work on this since it is related to the transmission and it was working before it was rebuilt?

Greetings one and all
If this has already been covered in a previous topic, please forgive me!!
I have a 2002 Accent that has an oscillating sound emitting from (sounds like the rear) the vehicle between 25 and 30 kmph. It's quite loud and resembles the sound that a rotary engine makes at idle. A quick look hasn't revealed anything out of the ordinary. Any ideas what I could be looking for?
Thanks

I have an 01 Accent, I have recently done a lot of work to it and now its down to one stupid misfire that i have yet to diagnose. After rebuilding the cylinder head and replacing all the timing components the car starts up and runs but at first started giving me a few trouble codes, at first it was p0103 and p0303, p0112 i cleaned the Maf and both other codes have went away. Now all i get is p0303, once the car warms up the miss becomes more obvious and the car goes into limp home mode.
So far i have checked the injector by switching it to another cylinder but the code did not move with it, as well as moving the spark plug over to another cylinder still no good. I am about to go test the compression even tho i am seeing no signs of a blown head gasket, the coolant is not getting into the oil or vice versa. The only main variable im dealing with is old gas, Ive put some in a clear glass cup and let it sit overnight to see if it starts to separate, it is a little polluted but not enough to cause this sort of issue.
Any idea's will help, I will continue to diagnose the problem, at least maybe this can serve as a helpful post for someone else, I see that misfiring is a common issue with these cars but most other problems have been different from mine.

Hi,
Recently, my engine light has come on. The car rev's like it wants to zoom into oncoming traffic, which is ironic, because it usually just quiets, and I have to wait for it to accelerate.
If I turn the overdrive off, the engine light does not come on, and I don't have any acceleration/ revving issues.
The one thing I have noticed in the last while that has changed with my vehicle, is when switching from park to reverse, etc, it sounds "frozen", "crackles", as I switch gears.
I have heard that my car may need to have the transmission replaced. I have had the fluid changed, the senors etc, and all to no avail.
But, but, it works in NOT overdrive ;))
Could anything else, besides a dying transmission, be causing the overdrive issue?

2004 Accent GL 60,000 miles
I noticed my fuel pump occasionally will run for 30 seconds or so after I park and turn the engine off. This is making me a little nervous as I just got my 2004 Accent GL due to a failed fuel pump in my last vehicle and it exhibited the same symptom just before failure. It runs beautifully and my mpg are staying 30-31 combined.
Anyone else experienced this?

A few things guys, looking for some help please.
2004 Hyundai Accent
- Car wont start
- Remote key unlocks the car fine
- When put the key in the ignigtion and turn 'on' the little key indicator on the cluster doesn't come on
- Left overnight and tried again in the morning, key indicator come on and then disappeared and wasn't able to start car.
- Key indicator now won't come on
I spoke to mechanic and he said replace the immobiliser control module and reprogram key ($800)
Does anyone know if this can be bypassed or if any way of confirming this is the problem.
Can i put aftermarket alarm on to bypass?

Hey guys,
Glad I found this forum, hopefully I will be able to find the answers for my questions...
Just looking out for my dad since it's his car, and I finally I found some time to scan it today having CEL on for about 2 years or so. First of all, I'm a Nissan guy and I'm not having much luck with Hyundais so far.
2001 Accent 1.5 5-speed
When the car is cold, it starts and runs for just a few seconds, then dies. I have to crank the car up at least 5 times before it stays running. Once it runs, the engine shakes pretty bad for about 10 minutes. Then it idles OK, but when I shift, I lose the speed and have to push the gas all the way down in order to gain the speed. Basically I drive with the pedal to the metal at all times, otherwise it wouldn't go, however, the car wouldn't go more then 55 mph regardless. The scanner shows random misfires, ICV, TPS circuit, system is too lean and all that.
Below is a copy and paste from the scanner and also I'm attaching a complete report that my scanner had generated which contains more info.

Hello all. I have a 01 accent 1.6 auto, and have no power coming from the ignition switch to anything. My wife was on her way home from work and she described it like somone just reached over and took the keys out of the ignition. there is a charge on the battery bc the dome light comes on and when u put the keys in the ignition the dinger makes its annoying noise. i have been checking wire with a volt meeter and have nothing. I HAVE checked all the fuses in the box under the hood and on the drivers kick pannel. they all seem to be good. dont know if there is another controll module or what, mabee a fuseable link but i am at loss at the moment. Any ideas would be great. Thanks for your time.

Hi, I have a 02 accent and when I start it, sometimes the check engine and airbag lights stay on for a pretty long periode, maybe 5 minutes and other time, they will shut off by about 5 seconds. Do I have to worry about that or is it a common problem?

Hello, front left and right rear power door lock actuators are acting up. The right rear actuator sounds horrible like it's gears are broken, and the front left (driver side) sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
What door lock actuators interchange? Will the ones from 2000 accent work ? Where there any changes between the models/ years within the 00-05 range?
Thanks

2004 Accent - auto. - 100K miles
Ok fellas, some you have seen my posts dealing with my CEL for code P0304. I thought I had it solved but now it comes on after every fuel fill-up. Its happened at least 5 times or more. I know what the code means (ign. misfire #4 cyl.).
I read and checked what affects the code but this one has me baffled. I thought at first it is the evap. canister but the car takes a fuel fill-up without any trouble and it is not hard to pump it all in and does not give me the code. If I put a bottle of STP gas treatment in the tank it clears the code after about 40 miles drivieng but it doesn't explain why it sets off the CEL on every fill-up. I also thought I may have sediment in the tank and the fill-up is stirring it up but I have filled her up and various capacities. Also, several weeks ago I got the CEL code P0441 for the purge control valve. I replaced it, cleared the CEL and it never came back on. Fuel filter has never been replaced because it is built into the fuel pump assembly.
Overall drinvability and MPG's are not effect. Any thoughts fellas....

I have a 2001 Accent GL 1.6 DOHC.
A couple of weeks ago the timing belt went. The shop was able to get it running. It worked fine for a couple of weeks. Now the acceleration is crappy and last night it started pouring a crap load of white smoke out the tail pipe. Did the timing belt most likely damage something?

Has anyone bought a HID kit for their Accent?
If so what bulb did you get? I heard the H4 causes problems with the install.
I was thinking a 9000K. I found a site that has the conversion kit for $251, is this considered a good deal or not?

Today I started my car and I look down and happen to see that the hatch open light is on. ttI go and open and close the already closed hatch and it still stays on. Whenever I hit the brake the light goes out and instantly comes back on when I let off the brake. I assume its the sensor, but where is it located?

Perhaps I'm spoiled by a 17 year old honda that regularly achieved 30 MPG when hammered, but no matter how I drive my accent, I get about 23 mpg. My friend's elantra gets 35mpg and she flutters the gas! I plan on getting the timing belt changed soon, and had an alignment done already. I changed the plugs and transmission fluid. I will try the air filter and perhaps fuel filter, but doubt those will matter much.
The car has 90,000 miles on it. There is no hesitation from the engine and the transmission only gives me trouble when really cold. (Like, 16 degrees outside, not used all day, and then its just hard/late shifting for a block or two, then its fine. And even that's rare now that I changed the fluid.) It pulls a bit to the right, and seems like I am constantly correcting it while driving on the highway, but there's very little rolling resistance so I doubt it's a frozen brake. I am having the rear shoes done today and told them to inspect the front for this reason, but don't expect anything.
The CEL isn't on either so even if the O2 sensors are aged, they probably aren't bad enough to drag me to 23 mpg. I'm running out of ideas. If this timing belt/tensioner/idler change (hey, while they are already in there, why not) doesn't help, what are my options?
Also, I really don't want to try any additives. Call me stubborn, but I don't trust them.

PSF3 is what the manual calls for on power steering fluid for this Accent, though I can't find it! The dealer service department tells me they have never had PSF-3 or heard of it even after showing them my manual. They only stock PSF-4 and recommended it instead. From what I've seen PSF-4 and 3 are not compatible, 3 is clear while 4 is green. Some people say it's transmission fluid rebranded as power steering but SP-III is red. I know my mechanic got it when I had the engine swapped in December but I haven't been able to ask him yet where he got it, any idea where to get it?

Hi there.
I'm new to the forum. I have an Accent 2002 1.5 MPFI automatic. It has a weird problem. All started few days ago at a high way. The car lost its acceleration. It just cannot pass 45mph. few days later the car got even worse. Now it just reach 10mph on plain, cant climb almost anything.... in few words, has not power at all.
We have checked and cleaned its fuel injectors, renewed spark-plugs, gas and air filters. In the scanner all sensors seem to be working ok. O2 is ok.
I thought it was a issue with the timing belt (which was on 80% of its life). So i replaced it. No changes. Cylinder compression is about 65psi. (which seems to be enough)
Then I realized that fuel regulator was not working, when I plugged its vacuum out, it has difference on high rev. So, I replaced it.
After all those changes, the car has just improved a little bit.
The motor runs fine at idle, but cannot deliver enough power (especially at med-high rev)
I notice Sparks are kind of yellowish but they can be as long as 1cm (which makes think ignition coils is ok).
Also new sparks-plug got black after hours. I think this is due some oil leaks into cylinders (the engine has +220.000 KM), but i dont think its is the cause of the problem.
Searching at this forum I found that it can be an issue with catalyzer. I'm going to check it in few hours.
But after that I dont know what else to check. What do you recommend?
Thanks for your help in advance. and great forum BTW.

Hello,
I'm having to replace both CV axels of my 2001 Accent, but the driver side is not going so well. The passenger side went off without a hitch and I'm done with it 100%.
However, the inner boot on the driver side was already completely torn, so the axel came out, leaving the inside joint inserted in the trans axel. On the passenger side, it would be as easy as using the pray bar like I did and be done with it. However, the driver side joint is set inside a inch deep recess, wich is makign it impossible for me to get a pry bar in there to pop it out.
Is there a special tool to get the CV axel out of the trans axel? Especially when it's set in a recess. Looks like I'd need something like a hex key with a screwdriver blade at a right angle. By the way, I already found some, but the blade needed to be turned 45 degress around.
Hope this gives you an idea of what's going on.
Thanks in advance,
Ken

I'm trying to find lighter stock rims that I could get at a salvage yard to fit the stock tires. I currently have the steel, stock, 13" rims. Anyone know of ANY OEM alloy wheels that would fit? I'm trying to save weight and improve my 35.3 MPG highway.

I have a 2001 Accent with a 1.6 DOHC and the timing belt had broken, so I replaced it and it had a very rough idle and I thought that the timing was off so I got the timing light out and it wasnt. So I put the timing light on the other wires to see if I had a misfire and It did on cylinders 2 3 and a little on 4. Bought a used coil and it fixed 3 and 4 but 2 only fires when I push the throttle and as soon as i let off of it it doesnt fire at all. I changed the plugs and wires and I thought maybe it was the wire but its not cause I put the old one back on. And the weirdest thing is that it ran fine before the belt broke now all of a sudden its misfiring only on 1 cylinder. Oh and the check engine light is blinking.

I noticed that my oil pan has been getting pretty rusty over the years.
Yesterday, I changed the oil, and it has gotten pretty severe:

Does anyone know how thick these are?
It looks pretty easy to replace. Anyone with experience?

My Hyundai had been making weird grinding noises the past week around 25-35 MPH. Within the week it got to the point where I can't get out of neutral, or if I do, I'll be able to get in first for around 10 seconds and then it will slip back into neutral. I refilled the transmission fluid last night before I got off work. I live 10 minutes from where I work but the ride took over 30 because of how slow I had to go and because the car would keep slipping into neutral. I have a pretty long driveway and the whole way up it there is a line of transmission fluid from the car.
Does it sound like the whole transmission went? Mind you this happened all within a week and there we no other signs of slipping before that. Could it be that the transmission gasket is broken which drained my fluid and won't keep any more fluid in it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
I have the air bag light on (constantly) in my '03 Accent.
My local mechanic said it was a problem with the seat belt, and I took it to the dealer to check on this and told me they found code for D/S seat belt buckle open/short (I imagine is error 1511 and/or 1512 as per the hmaservice website).
My question is:
Has anyone repaired this on his/her own?
Any online vendor where I can get the buckle from?
Cheers and thanks in advance for any help!
Ramiro
