Hello...
Just a comment on how my Sonata handles in the rain. Coming home from
a Chowder Festival in Newport RI last week, I drove into a steady driving
( sustained ) rain for almost 45 minutes. Happy to say that car held the
road perfectly whereas there were quite a few cars on the road not so lucky.
I love this car !

What are the things that you would like to see changed on the Sonata? Here's my list:
- Manual transmission and sport suspension option with V6 (perhaps they could market this as a Sport Package, like the Camry SE)
- Less intrusive indicator lights (I've already vented about this)
- Folding side mirrors
- LED brake lights/turn signals
- Seek/Preset button on steering wheel audio controls
- Xenon headlights
That's about it....

With the odometer ready to turn 16,000 miles on my LX---I've noticed my gas mileage going up, even with the ESC on. This is the exact same route I've always taken. What used to get me around 24mpg is now getting me 27-27.5 mpg. This is mostly city driving to work, average speed around 40mph. I know when my tiburon turned around 15,000 miles my mileage went up also. My LX is now getting better MPG than my wife's gl--of couse her car only has around 5,000 miles on it and usually gets around 26mpg.

Hey everyone,
I have just recently been victimized by a pothole! I ended up flattening a portion of my rim

I was wondering if anyone in Canada can point me to a place to get a used replacement or even a machining shop to reshape it? I am in Fredericton, NB and any help would be muchly appreciated!
Thanks!

So I posted this in the A/V section with no response. Thought I'd try here:
I have a 2006 Sonata and am putting in a complete system with 2 amps. Should I/Can I install them under the front seats? There is enough room for 'em, but doesn't the manual say not to put things under the seat. Is this true or just "one of those things you shouldn't do" but do anyway?

I repaid my loan months ago. Got my Title form Hyundai, with their stamped release of their lien.
Since the DMV office near my home claims they can't do that, they sent me to a far away office, to which I dragged mysef this afternoon. An hour drive in rush hour traffic.
The guy at the window asked me "why do you want to get a new Title?" I said, "I donno, I was told I need a new Title"... The guy says, "save yourself the $65, keep the Tiltle in a safe place, you have a perfect Title that you can transfer to your car's buyer in the future."
Good, I thanked him and drove the long drive back home...
Why was it so obvious to me that I need to replace my Hyundai-stampped Title with a new, "clean" one? I vaguely remember the guy at Hyundai told me that on the phone, when I called to ask when I am suppose to get my Title.... But I'm not sure...

Hi,
Mobil have Mobil 1 Synthetic Extended Performance, which according to their claim, can go 15000 miles without oil change. What do you guys think the use of this on the new V6 sonata?
The new sonata calls for 5W-20, which is still very rare to be found. I know Walmart and AutoZone sells the Mobil 1 Synthetic Extended Performance, but Mobil does not make 5W-20 for their Extended Performance oil. They only have 5W-30 and 10W-30. Is it okay to use 5W-30, since it seems closest to 5W-20?
I asked the service manager at the dealership when I test-drove the new LX, he said he is using 5W-30. Not sure about the brand.

I guess I should have asked this before I bought one, but I am pretty sure I made the right choice. My dad has had an Escort Solo S2 cordless for over a year and it has performed amazingly. I really like the cordless feature and it has outperformed the other 20 or so radar detectors he has owned. I have owned a Cobra, a Bel and some other older one. The Solo outperforms those by a mile.
Anyway, anyone agree or have another suggestion?

Sure enough I read about this here in the forum scattered here and there. Now hitting 100+ F outside the LX starts to drip VERY little (fluid levels are still OK).
Will shake the dealers hand tomorrow but that shouldn't happen in the beginning.
Anybody else having the same issue?

When I bought my Sonata it had a very small scratch on the drivers side door. It was about 1/4" so they said they'd fix it. Right away the body shop service manager called up and we set up an appointment. I took it in last Friday and I figured they'd try to touch it up but to my surprise they decided to repaint the full door. They'll also buff up the rest and really look for any other small imperfections and fix if needed. I was very impressed but they'll have my car for about a week.
They gave me a loaner car and it happened to be a V6 Ford Fusion. I looked at this car when it first came out and test drove it at the San Diego Car show back in January. I wasn't that impressed with it then and after having it for a weekend I am not impressed at all after driving the Sonata for 2 weeks. For prices being so close to each other there is a huge difference between the cars. One of the reasons I bought V6 over the I4 is because the V6 on the Sonata is very smooth. On the Fusion in lower speeds the transmission changes gear with a jerk at times and is not smooth. At higher speeds it's much smoother but not at lower. Also the Fusion really isn't that quiet inside. The Sonata is so smooth compared to this loaner. Also my gas mileage on the Sonata has been 23 and 24 mpg on my first two full tanks and close to 24 on my 2/3rds of the tank when I turned it in and this is with about 75% highway. So far with the Fusion I used almost a full tank with about 90% highway my gas mileage is 21 right now.
I can't wait to get my Sonata back! I love that car!

Hello everyone... First I wanted to say thanks to this forum and many others for all the information it has given me. I read this forum, Edmunds and so many more articles about the Sonata and other cars. I finally felt there was no better car then the Sonata for the price. On Memorial day weekend I went out and grabbed a Sonata GLS V6 with sunroof for $17,395 + TTL.
I have been in the market for a few months. I did extensive test drives for the Accord sedan, Camry, Impala, Civic sedan and G6 as well as the Sonata. After these test drives I decided against the Impala (felt it was too plane) and G6 (to small interior) and the Civic for the same reason though I did like the Civic a lot. The 07 Camry I also decided against because I felt the new look just didn't appeal to me as much after my initial look and I don't like the 06 much. So I narrowed it down to the 4 Cyl Accord Special Edition or the Sonata but I still wasn't sure about the 6 or 4. After driving both Sonata's I really liked the smoothness of the V6 and with incentives the prices were pretty close anyway. I wasn't sure about Hyundai though as a brand and was worried just from what I heard. After reading many sites I was convinced the brand is getting better so I decided to check the best prices for both the Accord and Sonata. I went to the dealers to see what I could do. In the end the cheapest a Honda dealer would go on what I wanted was just below $20k. On the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend I saw an ad that said the Sonata V6 with sunroof was $17,395 so I went in and checked what they had. I know most of the time advertised prices are for one or two cars but they had it for all their V6's with MSRP of $22,395 or less and they had about 15. I found the color I wanted (deepwater blue) and it had 12 miles on it and I put about 30 miles on a test drive. After that drive I signed up to be part of the Hyundai gang and so far I am very happy!
On the walk around I found a scratch about 1/4" on the door so they said they'd paint the full door. After I took it home I got a call from the body shop at the dealer and I'll take it in this Friday to have the full door painted. They'll give me a car for the weekend so hope it's as good as my Sonata!
Anway, initial impressions have been amazing. The car runs nice and I am glad I got the 6. The extra power is great to have and makes for a very smooth ride. When I need to pass or whatever it doesn't hessitate. Everyone who's been in it loves it so far and many can't believe it's a Hyundai. My wife doesn't want to drive her car anymore and just ride in the Sonata as a passenger! When I am driving I really can't believe how big the interior is because the extrior isn't as big as it feels inside. They did a great job in the design to get the most room in it. So far I am very happy and hope it will continue for many many years. I was hessitant to buy Hyundai but I am glad I did. For the price there is no better car. For those not sure get this car while you can still get it for so cheap. Once word gets out I think this car is going to do well.

Hello Sonatites ...
a couple of people have asked me what product I used to paint my calipers. I used "Dupli-Color". It's available in spray baum or a brush style application. I got the kit with the can/brush and can of alcohol to clean the caliper with ... the can and brush is more time intensive but it's likely to be less messy ... it's available in red, yellow, blue and black - not sure if other colours are available or not ..
here is the product from my local auto parts store ...
http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/pro...fromSearch=trueIt looks like these places carry it:

Anybody knows of a USA-made Sonata 4-banger engines?

Finally got a break in the rain and was able to wash and wax my new Sonata. Noticed something that really worries me. The front corners of the hood seem to be not painted very well at all. They were very porous and looks to me like a perfect place to start rusting. Anyone else have this on their vehicle? I will definitely notify the dealer about this. Also filled the tank for the first time yesterday. All sorts off new noises suddenly appeared. I think I read someplace that there are no baffels in the gas tank, is that true?
Thanks,
Eric

HELP !!!
I wanted to replace my OEM 6-Disc Premium radio with an aftermarket radio that would give me satellite radio and my Ipod. Local Circuit City can't get the speakers to work. They say it's becasue of the amp. My options at this point are to stay with the factory radio or have them re-wire all the speakers. But even if I let them re-wire all the speakers I'm told I'd lose the sub-woofer. Local Hyundai was of no help to Circuit City, nor was Metra. It seems no one has experience replacing the radio.
Has anyone done this? Anyone have a wiring diagram for the sound system that shows the amp and etc.?
Circuit City also says the sound system is the Ford Mach. Since it's a 6-disc unit, there is not CD changer port on the back of the radio.
I really want my satellite radio and ipod..

Has anyone noticed that the Sonata insruance rates are higher than the competion? That was the one thing that almost sunk my Sonata LX purchase. It was the highest rate, over Accord and Camry. Those 2 were even lower than my 02 Grand Am. Not the Sonata! Still, I bought it!

Hey guys/gals:
Does anybody know what brand of oil the Canadian Tire Formula 2000 stuff is ?? I have heard that only Castrol has a 5W20 Synthetic blend, (perfect for our Sonatas). Last night though I see that the Motomaster Formula 2000 full synthetic comes in 5W20 too ? I will probably use this in my car, I'm just curious if anyone knows what it is ? I suspect it's Castrol that Canadian Tire buys and puts their name on.
Thanks !!

Hey guys:
I think this has been discussed before but can't find it.
How long can we actually drive when the low fuel light comes on ? Mine comes on when the computer says I have 80km on the "distance to empty" setting.
Do you think that's accurate ? I've always been in the habit of running the tank until I'm almost on fumes - I want to be sure I don't strand myself !!!

Has anyone lowered their Sonata?
If so, could you post some pictures.
If not anyone done any research on it. I'm looking for price ranges, recommended companies, etc.
Did you go with Coilovers or Springs?
Whenever my tires are ready to be replaced, I am going to upgrade to 18 in. alloys and tires and i would like to lower the sonata.
Any ideas?

Something I thought of as I was driving home last night. How American or how Korean is the Sonata actually ?
I think it was designed at Hyundai's styling studios in California specifically for the North American market.
I'm more interested in the meat and potatoes though.
- the engine - is it a Hyundai engine shipped from Korea ? or built from US parts - if US; is the block from GM or Ford or somewhere ?
- the switches and levers all feel "Japanesey" i.e. I suspect they are Korean components or are they home grown too ?
The 4 cylinder is built in Korean right ? So I assume the overall car is mostly of Korean components or no ??
I'm not complaining - just curious if anyone knows ...

Hello. New Sonata GLS V6 Sonata owner. Does anyone know where I could pick up or swap my factory 16" rims/tires for the 17" set. From what I hear the ride isn't as soft, however they look much sportier. I haven't check with the dealer yet - I'm sure it'll be an arm & a leg... maybe any wholesaler OEM wheel suppliers that carry this wheel? Thanks in advance for your advice.
