For Safety, Luxury, & Power reasons I say yes

to the new Sonata
My 2005 Elantra was a P.O.S.
My Turbo 2004 Subaru Forester, which did Zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds stock. Made well, but somewhat of a death trap.
The 2000 Honda CRV. What can be said for the CRV. It worked without breaking.
1993 Buick Century LE. Picked it up from the "Last chance car lot". It took me from the West coast to the East coast. A Grandma & Grandpa Car with a 3.6 V6
1989 Hyundai Excel. Loved that thing. Bought in 93, broke all the time. Came with a Hyundai 7/75 Warranty. Bought it for $3600, put $3600 in repair work, FREE!
1986 Dodge Colt Turbo. Spent thousands on repairs. Turbo blew in 2 months. Head cracked in 2 years. Loved that Car. It hated me!
1981 Toyota Corolla. Do Toyota's ever break?. This one didn't
1971 Junker Toyota Corolla. Again, do Toyota's ever break. This one did, but always easily fixed.
1973 Dodge Charger SE. Black Beauty!. Strong, powerful, Broke all the time.
1975 AMC Gremlin. Worst Idea ever for a Car. Worst Car Company
1971 Purple Dodge Challenger. First Car. Broke down every chance it could!

looks like the '07 north of the border is available with similar badging levels as the '06 - GL, GLS and Premium. Looks like there are different option packages now though - about 8 different packages compared to the 4 from '06.
looks like we get the red and silver this time too ..

I took a road trip this past weekend and was amazed at the gas mileage I got. Even with the cruise control set at 80 and the air conditioner on, my Sonata averaged 32 mpg the entire trip (about 1400 miles), including in-town traffic. Not only did it get rockin' gas mileage, but it was more comfortable and quiet than any other car I've ever road tripped in... including my Lexus.
I'm loving this car more and more every day! Unfortunately, I was rear ended just before the trip, but my car is in the shop and should be good as new this weekend.

If I'd noticed this sooner, I'd have given the dealer a lower score on the survey. As it is, I've had the car for a month and only noticed it now...

See anything wrong with this picture?

This was the day after I bought it. Yes, the Karr stickers on the windows are gone. But besides that, do you see what's wrong?
I was talking to a co-worker about window tint and I showed him this picture, he wanted to see if I had chrome/silver trim. Looking at the picture when I showed him it, something seemed odd, see it yet?
So the next day as I was getting into my car, I looked and thought, yep, there's silver trim along my windows...
Luckily today I'd parked my car in the opposite direction that I usually do, so I came up to the car from the passenger side, that's when I realised that what I'd seen in the picture wasn't an optical trick in the photo...the silver trim on the passenger side along the bottom of the windows wasn't there!
...or was it? I looked harder at it, and realised that the trim was there, it's that there's some black protective coating sitting on top of it! Doh! So I peeled it off.

Sirs,
I notice a lot of people are going to aftermerket stereos on their LX. I understand there is a subwoofer that is mounted in the rear deck, that I am assuming will be unusable with new head unit. I a curious if there is a pre-wiring in all models of sonata, and if anybody will sell me their's? LMK Thanks!

Does the V6 have an overdrive or something like that?
I tried to quickly get out of an intersection and pull over for a fire truck yesterday.
My LX just didn't seem to move.
This happened quickly, so I wasn't looking at the speedomoter or tach.
I just stepped down on the accelerator, but was thinking to myself that the car didn't sound like it was revving to move or feel like it was accelerating.
I remember my 15 year old Accord would jump into overdrive and scoot when I stepped on the gas.
What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Suzanna
PS how do I fix the mis-spelling in the title?

The following was done entirely by 06sonata05tibby. The pictures and instructions included are also his work. I merely did the proofreading and posting, so I can claim no credit at all in performing this procedure and I still haven't done it on my car. Any questions, praises or comments should be directed to 06sonata05tibby, the genius behind this creation. Enjoy!

Sunday, I took my first drive on a 10 mile stretch of country gravel road. WOW, good and bad. (GOOD) Handling on loose gravel at 45-55 mph was great! (BAD) But the sound of gravel rocks pinging off the underside was like being in a horrible hail storm. Thot I was stripping the paint off the entire car. (GOOD) Luckily, I washed the car later that afternoon and found not one rock chip anywhere! I learned to drive on gravel roads, but it had been a while. Glad it's only something I have to once every couple years.

Seems to me that if you drove faster than 50 mph, you'd have been home 45 minutes earlier, hence missing the hail!!! That'll teach ya to save gas, by driving so slow!!!

Has anyone ever had a problem with their gas gauge not reading correctly? The last two times I have filled my tank, the guage is only reading half full. The first time I thought it may have been the pump but the money was about right for filling my tank from near empty which made me suspicious. Yesterday, I filled my tank again and the gauge only reads half full. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Can you guys share with me the dealerships that you bought from? And can someone tell me which dealership is the biggest? If the deal
I read from another post that the larger hyundai dealerships usually get a bigger discount and hence, the consumer gets a lower price.

I just finished buying my Steel Grey Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 and it is an awesome car. However, the dealer had pre-badged my car with their dealership sticker on the rear bumper. Its bright white with orange lettering and kills the clean look. What is the easiest, and safest, way to remove this sticker? I want to be as careful as possible with the paint.
Thanks

We just got back (today) from a week long trip to Anchorage, AK. While there we were greeted with a rental car of the Chevy Cobalt flavor. Man, what a difference between it and the Sonata ! It was one of the middle-of-the-road models, LT I believe, with a 145 HP 4 banger w/automatic.
Now I know I'm comparing apples to oranges with the Cobalt the the LX Sonata but I sure was glad to get back to Gracie. That given, it was a decent little ride - just what it was meant for I suppose. It performed flawlessly while climbing up gravel mountain dirt roads, tooling along the highway at 70 MPH, etc. We didn't have a single problem out of it. It did have a few odd noises considering it only had 5,800 miles on it ... but people do beat the crap out of rental cars. That's one thing I don't do.
I was kind of surprised at the number of Sonatas I saw on the roads up there, both new and old. A lot of Kias as well.
We won't even bring the F-22 Raptors into play that were on Elmendorf AFB ... that's just not fair.

Hey all,
I'm a 21-year-old and just got my first car ever: a 2006 Sonata. It was a flip between the Corolla, which I thought was really cute and aesthetically-pleasing, but not as roomy or as smooth of a ride. Also, the eight airbags and 5-star crash ratings won me over. It doesn't seem as "youthful" as a car as the Corolla, VW Jetta, etc., but it's comfortable, handles well, and is powerful on the freeway & while switching lanes. Honestly, I love how it drives, and the safety features are a big perk.
I figure I'll own it for at least ten years, so when I'm 31 and out of grad school & in a professional career, I might want a more professional-looking vehicle than a current pop model.
Just curious what the average age of the Sonata driver is, if you don't mind posting.

Has anyone else experienced an annoying vibration that appears to be emanating from the front end/tires at certain speeds? I recently had the tires professionally balanced to no avail. Additionally, does the transmission tend to lurch and jerk when decelerating or when reaccelerating as well??
I'm just curious if I am expecting too much from this car...

Ok, now I'm pretty sure it has nothing do do with a smelly rag or anything in the car.
One person has complained about the smell inside the car ever since I first bought it. I keep asking her to explain it, and she's not quite sure. She thinks it's a new car smell but it's not pleasant.
No one else has ever said anything, but today I noticed a funky smell for the first time. I have no idea how to describe the odor, except that its not a nice smell.
Does anyone or HAS anyone noticed or had someone complain about this of their Sonata?

First of all hello to all Hyundai owners. I own a 03 tiburon myself but I'm in the market to get 4 door now with my baby being 2 and a half, it's a real pain having to move the front seat every time to get her off the backseat and I just feel I need more room. With that said I have my eye on the v6 sonata, because of its performance (I just can't settle for a slow car), its attractive exterior and of course Hyundai's warranty. I have my eye on other cars such as the Caliber or the Mazda3. Mind you I have only test driven the Mazda so far because a co-worker has it, the car was fast enough, at least as fast as the tibby and it was a very smooth 5-speed manual trans. I like the interior a lot, quite a bit actually. I like the Caliber because of its design and its kick butt transmission. Now with the Hyundai, I can only imagine how fast it would feel once I test drove it. I like the many options it comes with but I am not too thrilled about the pictures I've seen of its interior. I'm actually a lot more thrilled of the way the new Elantra looks inside, that blue/red is sexy!
Are you all happy with the interior of your Sonata? I must say I dislike that wood look for some of the LX's and especially the green dash light. What's up with that?? Everything in the Sonata seemed perfect to me until I saw green, who makes green interior lights anymore, why not red (tiburon, bmw, pontiac)? blue (vw, elantra)? even white (honda) but green???? yuck! Of course I've only seen it from online pictures and I am hoping I'm wrong. I really wanna fall in love with the car but until I love every single option I think I'm gonna hold off to buy it. ALl your suggestions are very welcomed!!!

Not only did I steal the Hyundai Challenge Badge that you can wear on your Shirt. I took one of the Hyundai Challenge Desk Placards that were placed on all the Sales Desks. And if that wasn't enough, I asked the Cashier if I could take a Hyundai Challenge Balloon. She said yes, but since it was filled with Helium, I decided against the Balloon

. I stocked up on two Sonata Brochures, and I am thinking on going back for "my" replacement Hyundai Pen.
Am I wrong in doing this?. After all I paid good money for the Car, even though I didn't buy the Sonata at the Dealership where I lifted the goods. Any thoughts on this?. Do I need help?

I did a lot of research on the 5W20 issue and the only good reason for using it in the 3.3 engine is the tight valve clearance of this new engine. I called several Hyundai service centers on oil grade recommendation and got several different answers. The best one was if I use anything other than 5W20 I'll void the warranty, I guess he is not familiar with the owners manual. I live in Florida and do not have a warm fuzzy using the 5W20 and I've heard of engine knocking issues from people that switched to 5W30 and 10W30. I would like use the Castrol 5W20 synthetic, I thought that would be a good compromise for the Florida heat. I also discovered the dealer is the only place to get an oil filter right now. Anyone like to jump in on these issues. I plan to do my first oil change next week at 2500 miles.

One of the clear plastic paint guards, in front of the rear wheel, had some sticky stuff on it. I tried removing it, with acetone, and it made it cloudy. It looks crappy, so I want to remove it, and buy a new one. Have you removed one? I think mamamia did.

Wood Grain Trim: GLS & LX with Beige Interior
Metal Grain Trim: GLS & LX with Gray Interior

I noticed yesterday that my passenger side brake lamp is out. I stopped at the parts store on my way home and was surprised to find that the owner's manual doesn't list the bulb type. The wattage and socket type are there, but there's no bulb type that I could see. Am I missing something? What kind of bulb does the tail lamp/brake lamp require?

Just did a 2000 km round trip with the Sonata and am very impressed with the car. Drove from Calgary through the Rockies to Vancouver on the west coast and back and the Sonata didn't miss a beat.
It carved up the twisties and cuddled us in luxury while sipping fuel the whole way, (mileage numbers were better than the rated). Got over 800 km on the tank.
I have never, ever been able to sit in a car for extended hours without feeling uncomfortable - nice !!
Was kind of neat to see 3 figures on the outside temp display though - 108 degrees in a couple of spots.
One thing that was very annoying though ... I got flashed and was given the bird so many times. Those Xenon low beam headlights must be super bright or something - everyone thought I was driving with the high beams on.
Something else that was odd was when coasting down hills with the cruise on, the car would drift below the setting then the RPM's jumped to bring the car back to speed - kind of odd, never seen that before with a vehicle.
Sweet, sweet car though ..
