Hi,
i am hearing creaks in the car when i go over potholes. seem to come from the front passenger side near the glove box, like something in the front is loose. is this covered underthe warranty?. a brand new car (9K) miles on it should not be creaking like that! its driving me insane!
can i take it to the dealer to be fixed under warranty?

I've discovered my trunk leaks. I found a considerable amount of water in the spare tire compartment as well as under the plastic storage compartment in the right wheel well.
Because the mat was damp, it must be a leaky trunk lid weatherstrip.
I'll be taking it for service, but has anyone any experience or insight into this that may be helpful?
Also, I discovered a plastic tube in the right wheel well, under the plastic bin.
It runs vertically and the bottom end goes through a grommet in the wheel well bottom and the top is out of sight behind trim.
Does anyone know its function?

In a car that’s as close to perfection as anything I’ve owned, I hate to chirp about the horn on my 2009 Sonata, no matter how wussy I think it sounds for a vehicle this size.
But today I stumbled across a 2005
BBC story headlined
How a Car's Horn Says: Buy Me.
It was conducted by the University of Cardiff, and I have to tell you, this sentence jumped right out and grabbed me by the collar:
Evidence from car buyers suggested some had been disappointed in the past after buying large, imposing cars only to find a tinny parp emanating from under the bonnet when they sounded their horn.
I’m not sure my Bama Beauty qualifies as a large, imposing car, and I'm not quite clear on what a tinny parp might be (though I doubt that it would help much in a singles bar.)
Point is, I’m now sufficiently emboldened to suggest the Sonata horn sounds kinda wussy, even if it is a part of a car that’s as close to perfection as anything I’ve ever owned. DW

Sorry to say goodbye but traded the 2006 gl auto on a new mercury I4 milan. Test drove the 2009 sonata but the milan had more features: sync, led tail lights, tilt telescope steering wheel, based on the mazda 6 platform-engine and tranny, contenental tires, and the biggest factor was the $3,000 rebate. Paid out the door includeing tax and title 17,000. All this and the fact that I was treated like a child/idiot at the Hyundai dealership one too many times (they have since fired the service manage but just don't trust them anymore). I still have the santa fe so will still monitor the santa fe board but will definately miss the sonata board!

I just recently got ripped off by trading in my suv for a getto car that is suppose to be a new 2006 Hyundai Sonata. At night time all the roaches come out. It is very embarrising for me and my friends to drive this car. The dealership has not done much to fix the problem except a migraine headache. All they did is give me a rental car for a day so my car could be bombed over night to kill the roaches. Since then, whever chemicals they put in my car did not work and my eyes are always feel like burning sensation inside or irritated as a result of the chemicals. When I went to pick up my car. I could tell that they did not do much. I complained and I found myself going in circles. I would never do any kind of bussiness with these people. I hope you never find yourself in this type of situation."

I have nothing but good things to say about the 3 years and 49,000 miles on the sonata I traded in. Only thing done in those miles was oil changes (mobile 1 5w20), tire rotations, and the 35,000 mile tranny and cooling system flush. I can only hope the milan holds up as well!

I just set in my Sonata tonight to put a few CDs in it when I noticed something strange around the shifter. Both lower corners around where the faux carbon fiber is, it's like it's "flaking" off under the glossy finish. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Nothing has fallen on my console, or is it scratched or anything on the surface; it's all beneath the gloss. I might go snap a picture of it a bit later... However, I do have a photo taken right after purchasing the car and there's obviously no missing carbon fiber. This should be covered under warranty, correct? I mean seriously, the car's hardly been driven because I still take my jeep to school (new car + crowded parking lot + lots of people walking around = no)
I have a break next Monday and Tuesday, so perhaps sometime over that extended weekend I'll run it by the dealership and see what they have to say about this and the spots developing on the edge of my windshield...

So my gf and I were going to the laundrymat for her parents to clean stuff for the banquet hall they own. WELL..we brought along a bottle of bleach and detergent. The bleached tipped over while on the pass side floor and dripped out a quite a bit. Left a nice bleach mark in my carpet before I even knew it was there. It also soaked into my floor mat a bit and left a ring around the outside of the carpet from the mat and left marks where the spikes were on the bottom of the floor mat. Anywho..
anyone know where to get the dye needed to clean this back up? And the color choice? I have the gray carpeting with the cloth seats in my car. I was checkin out this stuff but dont know how reliable it is.

I was going to take my 2006 I4 Sonata to the dealer for a transmission fluid change and was told they use one of those machines to exchange the fluids. I called several dealers in the area and they all do it the same way - with a machine. I generally do my own upkeep to save money and know it is done right - oil changes, antifreeze flushes, tire rotations, etc. - but I have never done a tranny drain 'n fill on a vehicle. I understand the basic procedure involved: drop the pan, drain the fluid, change the filter, and fill 'er back up. My buddy, who owns an Accord, states his tranny has a drain hole which is opened by a 3/8 socket wrench and he does not need to drop the pan for a fluid change. I'm sure there are others on this forum who have done this basic procedure on their I4 and would have some answers.
- does the I4 have a drain plug for the trans or do you have to remove all the bolts?
- is there a filter in the I4 trans? (according to the dealer there is NOT, but I take everything they say with a grain of salt)
- how many quarts did u end up needing? I realize you don't get all the fluid out doing this, so the total capacity is not a good guide.
- I am using genuine SP III Hyundai trans fluid from the dealer so there won't be any issues of compatibility.
- this maybe a stupid question, but do you just leave the vehicle off and transmission in park while draining?
Any other advice for this procedure?
thanks!

Well while driving my 09 sonata limited on the interstate my headlights just went out. My parking lights stayed on? So i turned them off of auto and back on regular and they started working. When i would turn them back to auto the headlights would go off but the parking lights and instrument lights stayed on. Pulled over for gas and shut car off and put the lights back on auto and haven't had the problem again? I miss my 06 LX!! It was such a good car! My nav locks up sometimes and won't work!!! I am just going to go hit my service department up one early morning. with nav problems, auto headlight problems, tmps light, and the car pulling to the left..(since it was brand new) and a tire balance.

I have owned my 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS manual with the Theta II motor for about 6 months now. I have come to the conclusion that it's the biggest problematic car I've ever owned.
Just as soon as i finished an eight page write-up for the States Attorneys office, the bomb dropped. I print the document, pack everything up, load it in the car, push the clutch in, start the car................BLAM, the cluch pedal goes to the floor, the engine dies, and there are parts of the transmission surrounded by a pool of oil. This is the most money I've ever paid to travel 12,800 miles.
So now it sits in the driveway until Hyundai sends there Analyist to get it. I truly hope everyone here has better luck.
I'll keep you posted, my local news chanell here in CT is run by a freind of mine. He said it would be no problem having a complete news story, and investigation team come and do a story.
Hang on to your seat Hyundai, this is gonna get messy!

Has anybody had problems removing their ignition key?
Mine got stuck in the switch - tried all the usual tricks with the steering wheel and transmission - still wouldn't come out.
The dealer finally got it out - although not easily.
The key was a duplicate which was made using the key code - not a tracing machine.

I thought this was cool. When I got my car back all I had was my old exhaust and everything else was stock. We ran this dynolishious test (similar to the gforce but its an app on the iphone) I am fairly certain that the 1/4 is about 1 second off. Being at the track I run between 15.5 and 15.8. But what amazed me was the HP raiting. In the same forum my car actually dynoed 186hp on a dyno. It rated it at 187HP. See pix below.

Now we did a run last night similar weather but this time I had my CAI and redesigned exhaust. This had defiantly made my car quite faster. According to this I knocked a full second off my 1/4th mile and gained 46hp!!! I thought this was wrong but then remembered my friend who has a mustang and added a 50shot and ran 1 full second faster as well. We also noticed we had entered out power terrain lose in at 25% but when checking my dyno sheet I realized it shoudl have been only 20% maybe thats why it has me running high times. or could be just cause its the street. Being I run a 15.5- 15.8 at the track with my old exhaust I am assuming these are a whole second off. that means I would definatly be in the mid to high 14's!!

after following the advice of a few members and removing the intake resonator i caused over a $1K in damage to my engine after driving thru a puddle of water.
car is in shop dealer refused to cover it with warranty so i had to get the insurance company involved.
if any of u have removed it i suggest u put it on again because there are no gains in sound or performance.
Havent felt this bad in a while =/

I have a 4 cyl. automatic. I get a vibration or booming sound in the 40-45mph (65kmpH-75kmph) range.
I know there is a TSB on this, but has anybody had the service of reprogramming the transmission done and has it resolved the problem.
My dealer here in Ontario, Canada performed the reprogramming but there has been no change.
I'd like to think that it is not the nature of the beast, but just an incorrect repair by the dealer.
Please let me know your experiences.

I have been having issues with the radio (no nav) in my 09 GLS.
All buttons lock up. Can't change the station or change inputs. If on CD can't change tracks etc. Have to power cycle the unit to regain control. This would happen 2-3 times during my 1hr commute. Not really a problem unless you channel surf XM like I do ;)
Volume will turn down to zero by itself. Once or twice it went UP by itself. This happens every 5 minutes and basically makes the radio unusable.
My dealer ordered a radio 3 weeks ago, still on back order. Apparently there is a problem with these things. Anyone else experience this issue?
Thanks

dealer diagnosed my electrical issues(lights flickering) as an alternator going bad (covered under warranty but have to wait 4 days for alternator to arrive

) , myself , i think it is the voltage tsb that they wouldn't even check for some reason. anyway , transmission also has a small hesitation when gears shift up--is it possible that a bad alternator could cause the transmission computer to run a little off?
i think i will print a copy of that tsb and bring it to dealer when i go in-i have all the symptoms including radio restarting and blower speed running slow

Hi folks. I'm a newb on this form as you can tell. I've got a small irk with my Sonata, and wanted to know if it happens with anyone else.
For the life of me I can't figure out from where - but when it's cold outside and I throw on the hot air, my dash creaks. If it's hot outside and I blast the AC, it creaks. So it's a flex issue with whatever compound they use for the dash or to keep it on? Anyone else have this problem? Should I even care?
I just wanna know if I'm alone here really. That way if I'm not, I might have a leg to stand on when I get into Hyundai to ask them about it . I have to bring it in get out some other "new car" bugs like bad factory balancing on the wheels.

Hello,
I have an 06 Sonata, LX with about 33,500 miles on it. Recently, the brakes started squeaking as I am coming to a stop. It has grown louder and louder and it is driving me nuts. Do I need new brakes and if so, what components of them.
I am surprised as this is my FIFTH Hyundai and I have never had problems before.
Thanks.

Anyone had a problem with the mirrors not working on their NF Sonata? Mine have never really moved very well since I got the car new (2 1/2 years ago, have 40k on it now) The switch seems to have quit working as neither mirror moves at all now. I''ll be taking it in but wanted to see if any others have had this problem? This is the first warranty issue I''ve had with the car so I suppose it isn''t too bad.

made a new intake for Dogstars car, this time with an AEM bypass valve, its really not necessary, but with so many people seeming to think they are necessary i decided to make a prototype with one installed. cuz really, the customer is always right.
here are some pics

had to trim the battery tray slightly on the one corner (no pics of that, naturally) the pipe is tight under the fuse box (fuse box could be shimmed to sit a bit higher if we find its rubbing too much) and its tight to one corner of the battery. but overall it fits nicely. its quiet under normal driving and makes a nice noise when you floor it.
for me one of the best things about this new intake is the simplicity to reproduce it for others later. still need to make a jig, reproduce another test piece and make sure it fits properly as well.

Hey everyone!
I'm nearing my 45,000 service and a dealer in Modesto is recommending a fuel system "flush". Is this required to keep my warranty intact? Sorry I don't have my owners manual to look this up. They're charging about $150 for it.
What say you?

Taking it in tomorrow for a quick check. Dealer said to bring the wife to sit in the passenger seat since it only happens when she is in the seat.
Dealer also said they are backed up though on the recall repairs so I may not be able to get it replaced right away.
At least I'll get a loaner car though while they are fixing it.
