Hello
I have a 2005 Elantra and I am having problems with the dash lights. When the eadlight switch is rotated the side marker lights and rear tail lights come on but no dash lights! I can hear a relay operating but no dice on the dash lights. I had a rear taillight bulb that burnt out, could this have hurt the dash lights? Is their a seperat relay for the dash lights? the fuse under the dash is not burnt and the bulbs in the dash are fine. Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks

alright, so its 12pm, saturday night.
no dealers are open, nor are the auto-parts stores or any repair shops..
im pretty sure dealers wont open tomorrow..
my brother is almost 400mi. away from home both ways (his place, and our house)
he was driving on the hwy at around 85mph, then all of a sudden, his car THUMPED and the rpm shot up.
the car jerked forward, then the rpm remained at around 4k rpms.
has anyone eles experienced these kinds of problems?
here are some symptoms..
-CEL light is on
-automatic shifting is very rough
-does not shift at right rpms/speeds
-does not engage fourth (last gear) gear.
-fuel consumption is noticeable, because of the such high rpms (not engaging 4th gear). at around 65 mph, the gearing sets the RPM at about 3400.
i'm assuming the tranny sensors are shot.. no reason for the tranny to be stuck at 3rd gear w.o the sensor being shot.
his car did jerk a little bit before this happened, however, nothing major.
if anyone has any information on this, i would greatly appreciate it!
i dont want my brother to be stuck in middle of nowhere at this time..

I waxed my car about a month ago, and it left some white residue on the black trim and bumpers. Since then, I tried cleaning it with Armerol, and I've washed the car, but the white residue is still there. It looks terrible. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it back to black?

I am a HAM who just purchased my first radio to do duty in my Elantra and I have been hitting my head against a wall trying to find a good place to get through the firewall for power. EDIT: I must admit that I haven't removed the whole dashboard (I'm trying to avoid taking the whole thing apart if possible)
Anyone have any good pointers for places that I can either piggy back through an existing hole or drill a new one?
My Elantra is a 2005 with manual so no easy through the clutch hole option for me.

Wondering if anybody can give me some advice. I've heard in newer cars, it's not necessary to replace the timing belt versus older models. I have an 03 Elantra and just passed 105,000 kms and am wondering if its' a good idea to do it.
Thanks

Thank you for welcoming me to your forum today.
Well I have a problem with one of my 2002 elantras,
sometimes when I go to start the car, it starts right up for me with no problems but one out of every five times it just turns over again and again for about five minutes and finally starts right up

I can't understand the problem. Is it the fuel filter? Is it the injectors or is there no spark?
Does anyone have the slightest clue? I'm going outta my mind here.
Thanks for any help

I'm looking for a car to replace my current commuter, a 1995 Ford Aspire (known as the Kia Avella in Korea). Although the Aspire is a manual shift, the new car needs to be an automatic. I also need power windows/locks, cruise control and a hatchback.
My "finalist" choices are:
- Scion xA: emotional favorite, but checking dealer inventories shows that my option selection may not be realistic
- Hyundai Elantra GT 5-dr: loaded with everything I could want including leather seats!
- Ford Focus ZX3 SE: I've had good luck with Fords, but I'm just not sure; it's kind of vanilla
- Suzuki Aerio SX Wagon: quirky styling, but I kinda like it; most powerful engine by far (155 hp) of the cars in this list. If the ride quality isn't there, I may also consider a Suzuki Reno
- Kia Spectra5: a Mazda3 5-door clone/wannabe
- Pontiac Vibe: a lotta car for the money with current discounts
For those of you who own Elantras, what should I know about the car coming in, especially as compared with these other models?

Greetings!! I have a general question about service history between Hyundai Service shops. If I take my car to Dealership #1 for all my service and decide to start taking my car to Dealership #2 can Dealership #2 see all service history via VIN that was done at Dealership #1.

Hi, On my way back from work the other day, my Elantra Gls 1.6 (2001) turned off. I couln't start it again, the engine would turn but it wasn't firing up. I had a breakdown truck tow me home

A mechanic had a look for me and said there was no fuel getting to the engine and that it may be the immbobiliser cutting off power to the fuel pump. Since he's had a look at it, the electric windows/central locking and remote central locking (with the alarm key) don't work anymore! He reckons the immobiliser has cut these off as well but they were working fine when it broke down!
I have now been told to go back to a dealer since he can't fix the problem, only problem is the dealer is miles away and I need to get it towed.
I searched these forums for immobiliser related issues and several helpful posts came up, but nothing specific to my car. My question is, has anybody had any experience on this problem and is there anything I can try to reset the immobiliser? I have a new spare key as well but that didn't work either. The key has a hyundai symbol on one end and the letter 'M' on the other with 6 etched dots each side.
Sorry for the long post but hopefully someone can help me before I go through the painful task of getting the car to a dealer and then paying them lots of money. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Fiaz.

I purchased my 2001 Elantra GT from a used car dealership (not a Hyundai dealership). I noticed that there is a sticker on the driver’s side window, just above the door handle that states that, “ Warning! This vehicle is equipped with a Hyundai security system!” The dealership did not give me a remote, and I had posted a question on this sight regarding this, and was told that some Hyundai’s come with an immobilizer system; however, my local dealership said that the 2001’s do not have the immobilizer system. Now I am wondering what system I do have. Does anyone know what this sticker is for – do I have an alarm system or immobilizer system? I called the Hyundai Motor America, and they tell me it has an alarm system. If so, how do I get a remote? My key does not have any numbers on it.

Trying to find out more about the history of my Tuscon engine. Saw that the Elantra had a 2.0L also and assumed they were related, if not the same. If so, can someone point me in the right direction to find out more about this engine and how reliable its been/ improvements they've made over the years and stuff like that?
Thanks

Hey all. I have an '01 GLS, and have a really weird problem with the vents. When I set it to full defrost mode, it directs air out through the facing vents, not the defrost vents, but if I set it to defrost/feet heater, it works fine! I have tried re-seating the cable plug for the switch, and pulling the fuse and then replacing it.
Has anyone got any idea on how to fix this? It is really annoying!!!

I have a 2005 Elantra GT, 5-speed and my back often gets achy after driving for a while, especially my lower left back from pushing in the clutch a lot in traffic. Now with winter approaching the leather seats are also getting very cold. I was looking to get a really good massage/heat pad for the drivers seat only. I have tried those $35 pads you can buy in walmart, etc and really think they are lousy. Does anybody know of any really good ones?

hello all,
I'm new to the board and was looking for a little help. I have an 01 eleantra and the rear driver side brake light is out. I went to remove it to buy a repleacement and I see that it is going to be harder to change the bulb then I expected. I removed the ruber gromet and was hoping to have easy access to the bulb but from what it looks like i have to take apart the whole assembly from the inside buy opening the metal plate on the inside. Aside from removing the nuts on the inside of gthe trunk is it easy to change the bulb. Any thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Has anyone else noticed that the alternator in the '05 Elantra seems to be a bit weak? I noticed that every time my a/c compressor and the radiator fans kick in, my headlights dim a bit. At first I thought it was my imagination. Even at highway speeds and 3000 rpm the overall voltage at my headlights drops from 14.2 to 13 volts when ever the fans are on. The voltage doesn't return to 14.2 until the fans shut off. (Verified with a digital volt meter.) At 3000 rpm, the alternator should be working at its peak output.
I know it's a warranty issue, I'm just curious if it is just a defect in my car or if it is a design characteristic?

the headrest of the backseat is hindering my vision of traffic. For example, if I were to make a left turn, and I had to stop at a median to see oncoming traffic, my vision of traffic would be hindered by the headrest of the backseat.
has any of you faced that problem and how have you dealt with that?

If I am out in left field here, someone steer me right.
I assume, that Elantra VE are the Canadian equivelant of the Elantra GLS which must be the American model.
The reason I ask, is we bought both of our VE's as "buy backs" when they were a year old. Neither of the vehicles came with door remotes. I believe we received two keys for each vehicle along with the masters. Both vehicles are equipped with power door locks.
Is there a way, short of taking it to the dealer, to determine whether or not these vehicles are remote entry compliant
Thanks

My girlfriend just had her clutch replaced in her 01 elantra GT on Wednesday, yesterday (saturday), I was backing up and I depressed the clutch to take it out of reverse and I felt a pop and the clutch pedal had no pressure. I checked and bled the clutch master cylinder (clutch release cylinder) and nothing changed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please help. THank you.

Hey everyone,
I was changing a lowbeam headlight today on my 2001 Elantra and the spring that holds it into place popped out. I've been reading the forum looking for any info on how to put the spring back in, but haven't found much. Does anyone know of any diagrams or pictures that show how it's supposed to hold the bulb in? Thanks!

hey everybody! names phil. i thought someone here might have a suggestion for a problem i have. i have a 2001 elantra with 93,000 miles...i drive alot. i have had to replace the low beam headlight bulbs on average about one every 3-4 months. i've changed these before in other cars so i'm aware about not touching the bulb. it always alternates, passenger side then driver side then passenger side... when the car was still under the 60,000 bumper to bumper warranty, i had the dealer look at it. they changed the alternator but the problem remained. also, i've changed both bulbs at he same time since the dealer said that when a bulb goes, all the power goes to the other bulb thus damaging it. anyway, any ideas?

Just wanted to let any owners who have bought pre-owned vehicles know that they should check with Hyundai Company to be sure any recalls have been taken care of on their vehicles. I am the owner of a 2001 Elantra GT, and I contacted Hyundai to ask about the warranty transfer. They were extremely helpful and also informed me that two recall items (brake line clips, exhaust manifold) had not been taken care of by the previous owner. I made an appointment with my local Hyundai dealership, and at no cost to me, they installed the brake line clips and replaced the exhaust manifold, plus did a full inspection! By the way, even though the warranty had run out on my vehicle (I'm still covered for three months from the dealer I bought it from), I also have one year left on the roadside assistance program! What a deal!

As will quickly become apparent, I know nothing about cars. So forgive my ignorance, but I need instructions on how to remove the positive connector from the battery of a 2002 Elantra.
What confounds me is that there are TWO nuts on the + connector, one on top of the post and another off to the side. The one off to the side is easily enough removed.
However, the other is attached to the top of the post and is so tightly screwed on that I can't budge it even with vice grips. I'm relecutant to exert too much force for fear of damaging the post.
Any suggestions?

Just purchased a 2005 Elantra GLS. One of the many things I signed at the dealer was this paper agreement thing basically saying that I will use Quaker State oil for every oil change. I asked the salesman if I had the oil changed w/QS oil every recommended interval, but lets say didn't use QS just once - could/would Hyundai use that against me to void my warranty? He assured me that this wasn't the case. The fine print was vague at best.
I plan on changing the oil every 5,000 miles or so, my guess is that as long as I keep receipts i'll cover myself in case my engine blows up or something before my warranty runs out, correct?

Greetings all,
On my 2001 Elantra I have seemed to have an issue with my clutch
grabbing on take off after sitting awhile. It wants to grab, but does not grab all the way.Again this only happens once on take off after the car has been sitting for a few hours or so.After that I am good to go and the clutch engages fine. The clutch was replaced only 10k ago so I ruled out clutch lining wear.thanks for any help/support in advance.

Hello all,
The check engine light recently came on in my 2003 Elantra. After going to the mechanic the morning the problem was narrowed to a gas evaporation leak, but my gas tank was too full for her to inspect further, so she turned the light off and said come back if the light comes back on. Came on later today. After looking on the internet I learned a loose gas cap could make the check engine light come on. I realized I hadn't been tightening the cap as tight as I should but the check engine light hasn't come off yet. Does anyone know what else the problem could be? Will the light go off once the problem is solved, or does a mechanic have to turn it off themselves?
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks

Me again! I've noticed that my headlight covers seem pitted and ugly. The previous owner lived in Texas, and I live in New Mexico, so I'm thinking that the dust and wind have caused them to become pitted and "foggy" looking. I have tried to clean the outside, but they don't come clean. I think they should be replaced because they look ugly. Does anyone know where, and if I can find just the plastic covers? Or... does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean them up?
