curious what real-world results my fellow 2000 Elantra drivers have had with synthetic oil.

I'm due for an oil change (56K miles currently) and am getting tempted by all the Mobil 1 propaganda. They even sell a 0W-30 synthetic for enhanced "Fuel Economy".

What you say good or bad about synthetic I wonder.

hi guys, i'm having a bit of a problem trying to replace the rear O/S seatbelt in my 2000 lantra wagon,

the bit thats causing some grief is when trying to separate the seatbelt itself from the cradle that it sits in that comes out of the roof,

i have undone the bolt that fastens the cradle to the roof, but it appears that the cradle and the seatbelt are riveted on, well...

My Lantra 1.8 96' has fuel consumption from 6.7 L/100km (around 35 mpg US gal) to 7.3 L/100km (around 32 mpg US gal) - local roads (avg. 80km/h) and highway (avg. 110 km/h).

The dash lights will dim and go out, the RPM needle will start jumping around then the car will die.

We put in a new alternator and it seemed to fix the problem for a day. The car can be jumped to start again.

I thought I had a good 14mm spanner (thick jaws) on the pipe nut and was holding the cannister nut with another spanner but it wouldn't budge and I ended up rounding the nut a little. I recently rewired my amp to use all 4 channels to drive my sub and my rear speakers. Shortly after I noticed that when I was driving on the highway I was hearing a high pitched squeal. It sounded like a whistle so I thought it may have been a hole in the airbox, or something air related but when I parked the car I could replicate the sound by reving the engine around 3k rpms....

I will be doing the Timing belt on my 99 Lantra (Elantra) 1.6 soon. I was wondering if the job could be done without removing the water pump pulley and power steering pulley? If it does have to be removed does the drive belt keep it in place sufficiently to undo the bolts?
Also can the tensioner and idler be reused if they look OK or are they better replaced as a matter of course?
