My 97 Hyundai Elantra is giving me some issues.
The dash lights will dim and go out, the RPM needle will start jumping around then the car will die.
We put in a new alternator and it seemed to fix the problem for a day. The car can be jumped to start again.
We are going to put in a new battery today since it started up again.
Any other ideas about what could...

Hi all,
I am in the process of buying a used Elantra GLS. I just got it checked at MIDAS and they said the car is in good condition.
I asked them if they could check the timing belt and I was told that it would mean a lot of work and taking things apart.
The car has 101K miles on it. Is there any way or trick to determine if the timing belt has been changed or...

I am having trouble undoing the lower connection on the fuel filter cannister. I thought I had a good 14mm spanner (thick jaws) on the pipe nut and was holding the cannister nut with another spanner but it wouldn't budge and I ended up rounding the nut a little. After two tries with the spanner slipping both times I have given up for now. Is there any trick for getting these off? Would Mole...

Hey,
So my fathers Lantra is best described in one word as poo. Ok so I have three problems here, and I'm ready to burn the thing! Would appreciate if I can get some help.
OK! Here is problem number one:
All doors but one will open, the front passenger door won't open. How can I get this door open to take off the door panel to see what the problem is?...

Hello,
I'm sending some pictures I took while doing coolant bypass mod. It's an easy task but don't rush, just take your time because there is little room under throttle body. I'm recommending that the engine is cold so there are no surprises like spilling coolant. Anyway be careful so coolant doesn't come into your eyes. First, remove the air intake and then go to...

My son's 2001 Tiburon developed a squeal when the wheel is turned near the steering stops. Eventually the problem worsened and we replaced the pump with no change. I happened to be looking at the pump when it was making this noise (son in car turning wheel) and realized that the pulley pump was stalling. Aha! I said to myself, all I need to do is replace a worn belt, which solve the...

Hi everyone,
I have a 1996 UK Hyundai Lantra automatic.
It worked fine when I bought it second hand, however over the past few weeks it is having problems! Please bear with me, and excuse my laymen terms because I am not technically minded but the garage I took it to said they could not find a problem with it.
When you start it first thing in the morning it...

I own a 2000 elantra that is leaking fluid. The mechanic who looked at it said the front bumper needed to come off to replace the ps line assembly. Is this true? He declined the job saying he might not be able to get the bumper back on correctly and referred me to a body shop for the job.

I have seen a 1998 Lantra for sale in good condition. The only thing is that the seller only has two black keys; no blue or purple master key. Is this going to be a problem? I know I can get the black keys cloned by an auto locksmith for around £25 but am not sure if the ecu ever gets itself into a state where it will only recognise the master.
Would you advise avoiding a car without the...

Hey guys,
I recently rewired my amp to use all 4 channels to drive my sub and my rear speakers. Shortly after I noticed that when I was driving on the highway I was hearing a high pitched squeal. It sounded like a whistle so I thought it may have been a hole in the airbox, or something air related but when I parked the car I could replicate the sound by reving the engine around 3k rpms....

My nephew just picked up a 1996 Alantra 4 Cyl. 16 Valve DOC 4 door with the ETC automatic transmission system.
The gas mileage is awsome and the car runs and handles beautifully.
But when you hit about 10 or 15 MPH you start to hear what sounds like a tire rubbing on a mud flap. I've been over the wheel wells and there is no rubbing to be found. The sound gets louder as speed...

I will be doing the Timing belt on my 99 Lantra (Elantra) 1.6 soon. I was wondering if the job could be done without removing the water pump pulley and power steering pulley? If it does have to be removed does the drive belt keep it in place sufficiently to undo the bolts?
Also can the tensioner and idler be reused if they look OK or are they better replaced as a matter of course?
Thanks...

My '99 Lantra Sportswagon has started getting the check engine light come on my regular drive to and from work. usually in the morning, when it's cold (it's Winter in Australia) the light will come on after about 5-10 minutes of driving, and then stay on for the entire trip (about 25km - up to 75 minutes driving). In the afternoon, on the way home, the light will come...
