I have a 92 elantra and the stock mechanical speed sensor has broken. I know some cars have an extra gear/motor in the dash that converts the mechanical sensor into electrical for the computer to see. My question is does the 92 use such a converter and/or does the ecu see the speed of the car?
Thanks

I have a M reg lantra which has done 110,00 miles. When the car is stopped and I try to move out in drive the auto transmission does not kick in but slips so the car does not move when I apply the gas. It seems to be an intermittent problem as other times it will start OK in drive. Any idea as tio what I should check/look for? Would a replamcent of the suto transmission fluid and filter solve the problem or is it something more serious.
Thanks
John

Hi All,
I am totally new to this so please excuse my newness...
I really need some info. BTW I am in Australia so I am not sure if Australian models differ from the rest of the world.
I picked up a 1994 Hyundai Lantra 1.8L DOHC 16V 4 speed Automatic for 500 bucks. My daughter has just turned 16 and I thought it might be a good car for her to learn to drive in.
Anyway ... The gear box is absolutely had it. I got my good friend (a mechanic) to pull it out and her reckons that it will cost too much to fix.
He says that it is a KM177.
The markings on the gearbox are as follows.
On top: CPGAD 892545
On the side there are some"inked" markings that are just about worn or rubbed off. He thinks they read 756 of the ones he can read.
Can someone in here please tell me if this is a KM177 and the variant?
Or if it is something else?
I need to try and track down a gearbox to suit.
Thanks everyone ...
Cheers
Max

Hi I've been having Intermittent starting problems since I've owned the car approx 3 years.
I thought it was the immobilizer at first because I found if I either started the car straight after unlocking the car it would work but not if i got in the car waited a minute before starting.
But it doesnt make any difference now, it just decides when it wants to start no matter what I do.
I've been stranded with it several times but eventually it always does start sometimes straight away, sometimes I get out the car and wait 5 minutes, sometimes it takes over an hour before it will start.
I've had the plugs checked and had new battery
I've also had new starter fitted.
It does crank but doesnt always turnover.
I've searched lots of forums and all i can find is its possibly the mass flow sensor or crankshaft sensor.
Can anyone advice me?
Many Thanks
Julie

The dashboard light suddenly went dim yesterday.
I had a look at the bulbs but they all seem ok (I am assuming that I looked at the right ones - they were three larger bulbs in the back of the display each covered with a blue plastic cap). All seemed ok and had similar resistances. I suppose it could be that the dimmer switch has broken - it certainly does not alter the light intensity.
Any advice anyone?

I own a 1995 Lantra with 93000 km. It was my moms car and now i have had it for about a year. The problem is i cant get the fuel comsumption under 10l per 100 km, even on the highway. I checked AFM, TPS, heated oxygen sensor, idle speed control servo, with a multi-meter according to hmaservice manuals, and they all work fine. So i drove to a dealer and pluged the car to the computer, and they told me that everything is working fine except the intake was dirty so they cleaned it up. The car also passed the exhaust test. Despite all the effort the car stil usses 10 l per 100 km and im out of ideas what to do. The car is serviced according to intervals. Could it be the timing or maybe the spark plugs or spark cables?? Please help

I'm on my 2nd set of tires at 60,000 mi and they are starting to show signs of uneven wear, despite my rotating and balancing every 5000 mi. and 4 wheel alignments. It seems to be uneven wear on the outside edge of the tire, (bumpy) and hard to keep in balance. Do you think I should run more than the recommended 30psi ? Wouldn't low tire pressure create this type of problem?
Thanks

I had my oil changed today. My car needed a "lot" of tramsmission fluid. The mechanic said I had a front axle leak.
I figure I'm under the 100,000 mile warranty; however, before I proceed I want to make sure it's not my fault.
Last year my granddaughter went into a ditch with my car. It was turned on it side and all the transmission fluid poured out. the mechanic who did the body work said there were no problems with the transmission. It just poured out due to the position of the car.
The car needs a front end alignment that I have been putting off.
Given the above info why is my front axle leaking?
Thank You

Hi,
I'm having a problem with my Lantra Hyundai...at only 2500 revs the car peeters out. The RAC came, took off the air filter, the car did the same still. RAC suspects the petrol filter is blocked...does anyone have any ideas?
Tried to flush it with petrol and fuel injector fluid which made no difference. Spark plugs cleaned too. The car only has 50,000 miles on the clock (genuine).
The car drives fine, only with the auto choke on but as soon as that stops, it peeters out.
Thanks for any help!
Mat

I am trying to find where I can order a (or pick up) an automatic antenna for a 1995 Lantra but I cannot find a part number or a suitable antenna anywhere. It used to go up and down by itself but courtesy of a car wash it does not exist any longer.
Does anyone know anything about these ? Can it be replaced by your average punter (me) or must it be done professionally ?
Cheers, Kyle

Hi I have just joined this forum.
I live in Essex Uk and I am finding it impossible to get hold
of a replacement clutch master cylinder.
Does anyone know of a reliable supplier who could get me the right one
as there does seem to be a problem getting hold of the correct one my
model.
It is the lantra 1.8 CD estate.
I did order one through Jap spares in London but they sent
a similar one but it lacked 2 connections to the side ( even though they
took my reg to make sure it was the right one! )
Sorry should have given the year 1995

if you need to know something about your Elantra (in Germany just Lantra), check this out: www.lantraj1.de
Here you will find many informations about your car. There is also a forum with German Elantra Drivers, but they can help you as well.
Hope to see you soon

Hi, does anyone know how to build in a normal radio in an lantra 93?
I saw that behind the dashboard there's a metal thing where the radio/cassette player is attached to.
Cheers,
Done it.

I have build in a JVC kd g631.it took me 3 hours and some advice from someone with some electronical skills. Hyundai made it very difficult and anoying to build in your own stereo, everybody would with such great cassete player. butt nowdays things are different.
I will tell you the the things i know know to make it easier.
when you have a hyundai model around the age of mine it should work the same way.
First of all you have alot green wires. cut thos green wires that make a couple. start with one pair. put a battery (normal one) between them and listen where the crackling sound comes from. repeat this step till you have found 4 speakers.
you will see that you will find two green pairs, one yellow pair. the last pair (FR)(Front Richt) will be the red and the light green cable. strangely enough red ist't power. Power will be the other green ( search with electronical meter) and of course the black one.
connect your speakers, connect the 2 power cables from your radio (yellow and red) to the green one, and the black to the black.
Know your stereo should have power and speakers.
the other wires are for advanced controll such as stearing controll etc.
feel free to post any comments,
cheers,

OK this may sound wierd but .... I have 95 Lantra and sometimes it just wont start, if u pop the hood and leave ot for 10 minutes and come back it does start.
So for example ... I drive to work, it starts fine in the morning, park the car. Leave it there all day and it doesnt start ... so i open the bonnet and come back in ten minutes and it works.
A mate of mine said that there may be a sensor or something that thinks its just to hot so it doesnt start ??
has anyone heard of that ?? does that make any sense ??

[FONT=Arial][SIZE=7][COLOR=blue] Have a 1994 Lantra which still goes very well. Has clocked 116K km. Am thinking of installing enhanced headlight bulbs e.g. xenon car bulbs and enhanced signal/stop/tail lamps in it. Do I need to carry out some modifications to the wiring system or perhaps to instal a conversion kit?

I have just bought my 2nd 1993 lantra 1.8 (4g67 engine) but it seems like the balance shafts are not at the right position as there is a lot of vibration when I go over 4500-5000rpm.
I have had a look at the HMA service website but it doesn't say how to set the balance shafts.
Does anyone know how to readjust them?

Hi everyone,
My step daughter is bringing her Lantra up for my daughter (big sister/little sister thing).
I need to locate a right front window regulator and would like to know where I can source parts online in Australia as we live in Rural NSW.
Also does anyone know where I can get some information on the removal and reinstallation of same.
This will be my daughter's first car and she is going for her L's in April this year, so I want the car to be safe. Kids grow up so fast.
Thank you for any assistance you can offer.
Kind regards,
Blatty

Check engine and air bag light are on in my 2001 Elantra. In the past when I took to dealership, I was told engine light R/T gas cap not being closed tightly and air bag light on due to something underneath seat. I do not want to pay money for diagnostics for them to tell me everything is R/T what I mentioned earlier. There is not and has not been anything under seat and yes there is possibility cap not screwed on tightly. Please help!!!!!

I have a 2000 Elantra with a bad license lamp and lens. I ordered a part from an online Hyundai parts supplier who required a VIN. The lamp socket I received from them isn't the right one. It's more an oval shape and bigger while the harness plug is smaller and alsmost square. Anyone ever heard of that. I'm about to pull a mickey mouse and use 2 generic connectors on the contacts and seal the whole mess with electrical tape. I thought I'd try here first to see if there are others with the same problem and what they did.

Hey there, I'm a seasoned DSMer that is in the process of making the ultimate sleeper car. I'm thinking about dropping my race motor into a 1st gen elantra but i need a few answers on some things. From what I hear, 1st gen elantra are easy canidates to do a 4g63t swap. Is there any specific year, engine size that would be more compatible than the other? My guess is that the 1.8L (4g93?) would be easier to swap out as opposed to the 1.5L (4g15?) Also, would stock 1.5 or 1.8 elantra axels work or even have to be used with the 5 speed fwd dsm turbo tranny. I'm more of a mitsu guy so please help me on the slight differences if any, that come on hyundais.

Hello To All Worldwide.
Since becoming a Hyundai owner I have studied page after page on Hyundai vehicles & I have come to the conclusion that Hyundai is still a pretty unknown vehicle on the mechanical & electrical side of things.
On many a page I have come across the big question is why does my Hyundai no longer start.
Well the dealership will tell you its a flat battery or a blown starter motor & try & sell you one at a sky high dealership price.
Well of course check your battery terminals first for a loose lead on the battery poles & the main earth going to the engine block/chassis also checkout your starter motor to see if it has any loose wires.
I have read that people cannot get there Hyundai's started so they sell them on as there tired of the problem & go on to think that Hyundai make rubbish vehicles.
Ok if you own a Hyundai Lantra with a manual gearbox & it suddenly will not start then read on.
If the leads are nice & tight on the above mentioned & your dashboard lights illuminate & your car still has all of its electrical functions online like lights/electric windows/etc then take alook under your clutch pedal.
Hyundai fitted a sensor switch unit directly under the clutch pedal.
On many Hyundai vehicles you have to press down on the clutch pedal while also pressing down on the accelerator pedal while turning the ignition key to start the vehicle.
The sensor button under the clutch pedal sends a signal to the engine management system to tell it to start the vehicle.
Just think in a vehicles lifetime how many times you dip the clutch to change gear & how many times this little sensor button is hit upon & the wear it has to suffer etc.
If your Hyundai suffers this problem while your out & about & your vehicle goes dead, then its a good idea to carry a 14mm open ended spanner to get you up & running again.
To fix this problem you will have to lay yourself into the footwell & reach up under the clutch pedal, where you will find the sensor unit button bolted in by 2 x 14mm bolt heads.
By adjusting the sensor switch sprung loaded mechanism more forward then tightening it up again will start your Hyundai 1st time.
As this will improve the distance greatly when pressing down on the clutch pedal.
Why on earth this gadget is put there in the 1st place heaven only knows.
If the sensor button shows sign of heavy wear, then you will have to replace it & this is a main dealer part only & will cost ££££ or $$$$ wherever your from, but if you are close to scrap yard or breakers you may be lucky to get one cheap & as mentioned, all you need is a open ended 14mm spanner to remove it & to pull out gently the small iso wire plug.
Always feel free to ask me a question as I have always owned oriental vehicles in all shapes & forms.
