Hi, when I bought my lantra it had a 1.8L mitsubishi diesel engine. Now I've replaced it to a 1.6L DOHC 16v. Becuase it was on diesel many of the wiring was cut. My problem is that I don't know if it still has a computer(OBD) port. Does the 92 lantra posses an OBD port? If yes, where is it situated?

i recently replaced my alternator... a few weeks later the fan belt came off and now refuses to stay on once the car has started... the adjuster belt on the alternator is also difficult to keep in the bracket when tightening it and i have a feeling these two problems are connected... i'm wondering if anyone knows what the problem is or if i have lost part of the adjuster bolt

Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows if my car (95 elantra 1.8) has a FITV. I know it has a IAC. I'm having surging idle problems after car warms up. there's no vacuume leak, TBS is good, MAS is good. I cleaned the IAC & TB, aand noticed there was another part connected to the TB besides the IAC. wasn't going to taake off till I was sure. So, if anybody knows if my 95 elantra has a FITV (fast idle thermo valve) I would greatly love some input...
BIG THANKS IN ADVANCE .....................

Hello,
I have a 1995 Hyundai Lantra 1.8 twincam, it runs really well an has no issues until it has got to operating temperature and then if I turn it off, it won't start again. It will turn over but won't start, if I wait about 1/2 an hour it starts no worries. I have changed the sensor at the rear of the cam cover and no change with the problem. Someone said that they have an engine relay in the interior and this can be effected by heat so when the interior heats up the car won't start, is this true? Any help would be great.
Thanks

HI, I've read a few topics on EGR valves, some say it can be cleaned, some say NO. I hope a few of you top guys can tell me.
At first I was having problems with idle. I fixed that, I changed the whole TB bore, now, no more surging idle. Now, engine light came on to stay. Got it scanned ... EGR system ! .. PLEASE can someone tell me if it can be cleaned, or an easy way for me to check.
Thanks

At me the radiator of the air conditioner has burst. I have repaired it, have checked up all system. Now it is necessary to fill with its freon, but I do not know what quantity of freon it is necessary to fill in in system. Prompt please if someone independently repaired the conditioner or where can be found the documentation accessible to downloading.

Hi, I am totally new to this site and dont know a lot about cars so I need lots of help! I have a Hyundai Coupe 2004 which I think is also called a Lantra. Basically I'm in need of a Body Control Module, my left indicator is stuck on, the light doesnt flicker it just stays on and doesn't go out when I turn the ignition off. I called my Hyundai dealer, they told me it is the body control module and it will cost 800 euro to replace it which I really dont want to pay out. I've found a mechanic who said he can replace one for me but we need to locate a second hand body control module. Can anyone help with this please? I live in Dublin, Ireland but would be willing to pay for postage (obviously).
Thanks so much
Jo

I've owned various vehicles for over 30 years and I've just bought my first non-GM car, a 1994 Elantra. I bought it from a young fella who had spent a bit of money lowering it and putting a fancy exhaust system on it. It looks pretty good for a 4-dr sedan. Perhaps I'll post some pictures of it in the other part of this forum.
I know a few things about fixing American cars, but next to nothing on imports. Please be patient with me!

This may seem like a real newbie question, but don't the (non-electric) rear side windows roll down all the way on the Elantra? Both rear windows go down easy enough but then they stop with about three inches still to go. I realize it's highly unlikely that both windows are faulty. It would look so much "cleaner" if the windows were flush with the "sill" when rolled down (like the front side windows). Is this the way it has to be?
I promise my future posts will be much more technical than this one.

Hello, folks.
I recently picked up the vehicle listed in the title for a song. It was starting, running for a few seconds then dying. Come to find it is a spark problem. It sparks when it runs, stops when the spark goes. I replaced the "Power TR unit" (whatever that is, but it looked kinda like it might possibly have something to do with it and I got it for free), replaced the slightly plugged fuel filter before I figured spark, replaced the cam/crank position sensor and replaced the coil.
After all this it started and ran. After a fashion it ran well. It passed emissions testing earlier today, then not 3 minutes later I was desperately trying to push it out of traffic! I dragged it back to my shop and found that it is doing the same thing as it did originally: Not starting for a while, then randomly sparking and running for 2-5 seconds, then spark dies, engine dies. I replaced the ECU, same thing.
Is there something obvious I'm missing here?

I recently bought a 94 Elantra (automatic) as a "work" car. I got a really good deal on it so I wasn't expecting it to be perfect. It's actually in better shape than what I was expecting. The timing belt neeed to be replaced which was done right before I brought it home and there are a few minor things here and there but the one thing that is driving me nuts and I know needs to be fixed before it leads to further transmission problems is when it switches from first to second it bucks really hard and it also does the same when it downshifts back into first. It only does this in these 2 gears. Also, when I am on the highway, roughly around 70 or so... it will stay in 4th for a few minutes and then will downshift to 3rd and then go back up 4th. It will do this 3 or 4 times then will go into 3rd and stay there until I eventually stop the car and turn it off. It's not only annoying but really loud.... I work 30 or so miles away from home and don't want to do any further damage to the transmission so I would like to get this fixed asap and would like to save money if possible.
I am not the least bit mechanically inclined (and neither is my husband) but I do have the ability to determine the problem most of the time. I did some research on the internet and saw that this could (maybe??) be the end clutch or possibly the pulse generator but I wanted someones opinion before I walked in a shop looking like I knew what I was talking about and then look like an idiot cuz it was something completely different.
and also, (no offense to anyone) but with me being a girl... I don't want to get screwed over cuz I don't know what the person is talking about when it could just be something simple to fix and they tell me I need this, this and this and oh yeah... this too!!!
Also, this isn't major but it is VERY VERY IRRITATING!!!!!! The door ajar light stays on at all times, even with the key out of it... because of this, the interior light would stay on but I have it switched off to keep my battery from dying. Also, there is a bell that chimes randomly... The guy I bought it from said that the sensor for the door latch isn't getting a good contact but I have no clue what it looks like or where to find it. Isn't there a fuse I could just pull to get it to shutup??? lol
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I have an 03 elantra and I can't switch the air selector from where it blows on your face to anywhere else. This is really killing me when I need to defrost my windshield. I pulled the switch and took it apart and it looked fine. I also pulled the fuses I thought they would be and nothing seems to be blown. It might be controlled by another fuse I don't know. What is the next step. Please help!!!

Ihave a lantra that has a slipping auto gearbox, all the fluid and filters are fine. What is the most common part to be replaced in these boxes because of slipping?.Such as servos or valve body,i dont really plan on replacing the box if something else can fix or HELP eliminate the problem a bit.Or is there any vacuum hoses on the gearbox i should look for?.I bought the car with a 4g93t conversion and not real sure if theres anything that may have been disconnected during the engine fitment,it still has the standard hyundai gearbox.Any help would be great

Hi there guys,
Am hoping to pick the brains of a few of you.
On christmas eve in rush hour my car decided to brake its rocker shaft (exhaust side), boy dont that make a nice sound whist driving home LOL.
What looks like happened, is the far left hand bolt had come loose and worked its way under the shaft. Not to sure if this broke the shaft, or the shaft was broken before hand. Any way, have been trying to find ALL the settings for replacing it. but cant seem to find them.
Its a lantra '94 1.5 saloon 4dr manual petrol
any help would be appreciated as i cant work until i fix it, My boss is also a machanic and is willing to help me out, but we need the settings, i.e. gap settings torque's, as i stated ALL the specs for replacing the whole thing.
hope to hear from you as soon as possible.
cheers

I have a M reg lantra which has done 110,00 miles. When the car is stopped and I try to move out in drive the auto transmission does not kick in but slips so the car does not move when I apply the gas. It seems to be an intermittent problem as other times it will start OK in drive. Any idea as tio what I should check/look for? Would a replamcent of the suto transmission fluid and filter solve the problem or is it something more serious.
Thanks

I have a 92 elantra and the stock mechanical speed sensor has broken. I know some cars have an extra gear/motor in the dash that converts the mechanical sensor into electrical for the computer to see. My question is does the 92 use such a converter and/or does the ecu see the speed of the car?
Thanks

Hi All,
I am totally new to this so please excuse my newness...
I really need some info. BTW I am in Australia so I am not sure if Australian models differ from the rest of the world.
I picked up a 1994 Hyundai Lantra 1.8L DOHC 16V 4 speed Automatic for 500 bucks. My daughter has just turned 16 and I thought it might be a good car for her to learn to drive in.
Anyway ... The gear box is absolutely had it. I got my good friend (a mechanic) to pull it out and her reckons that it will cost too much to fix.
He says that it is a KM177.
The markings on the gearbox are as follows.
On top: CPGAD 892545
On the side there are some"inked" markings that are just about worn or rubbed off. He thinks they read 756 of the ones he can read.
Can someone in here please tell me if this is a KM177 and the variant?
Or if it is something else?
I need to try and track down a gearbox to suit.
Thanks everyone ...
Cheers
Max

Hi I've been having Intermittent starting problems since I've owned the car approx 3 years.
I thought it was the immobilizer at first because I found if I either started the car straight after unlocking the car it would work but not if i got in the car waited a minute before starting.
But it doesnt make any difference now, it just decides when it wants to start no matter what I do.
I've been stranded with it several times but eventually it always does start sometimes straight away, sometimes I get out the car and wait 5 minutes, sometimes it takes over an hour before it will start.
I've had the plugs checked and had new battery
I've also had new starter fitted.
It does crank but doesnt always turnover.
I've searched lots of forums and all i can find is its possibly the mass flow sensor or crankshaft sensor.
Can anyone advice me?
Many Thanks
Julie

The dashboard light suddenly went dim yesterday.
I had a look at the bulbs but they all seem ok (I am assuming that I looked at the right ones - they were three larger bulbs in the back of the display each covered with a blue plastic cap). All seemed ok and had similar resistances. I suppose it could be that the dimmer switch has broken - it certainly does not alter the light intensity.
Any advice anyone?

I own a 1995 Lantra with 93000 km. It was my moms car and now i have had it for about a year. The problem is i cant get the fuel comsumption under 10l per 100 km, even on the highway. I checked AFM, TPS, heated oxygen sensor, idle speed control servo, with a multi-meter according to hmaservice manuals, and they all work fine. So i drove to a dealer and pluged the car to the computer, and they told me that everything is working fine except the intake was dirty so they cleaned it up. The car also passed the exhaust test. Despite all the effort the car stil usses 10 l per 100 km and im out of ideas what to do. The car is serviced according to intervals. Could it be the timing or maybe the spark plugs or spark cables?? Please help

I'm on my 2nd set of tires at 60,000 mi and they are starting to show signs of uneven wear, despite my rotating and balancing every 5000 mi. and 4 wheel alignments. It seems to be uneven wear on the outside edge of the tire, (bumpy) and hard to keep in balance. Do you think I should run more than the recommended 30psi ? Wouldn't low tire pressure create this type of problem?
Thanks
Tim

I had my oil changed today. My car needed a "lot" of tramsmission fluid. The mechanic said I had a front axle leak.
I figure I'm under the 100,000 mile warranty; however, before I proceed I want to make sure it's not my fault.
Last year my granddaughter went into a ditch with my car. It was turned on it side and all the transmission fluid poured out. the mechanic who did the body work said there were no problems with the transmission. It just poured out due to the position of the car.
The car needs a front end alignment that I have been putting off.
Given the above info why is my front axle leaking?
Thank You
