I have a 2006 Santa Fe with the 2.2 dsl engine and I want to change the timing belt as it has almost 70K on the clock .
I haven't been able to find any information re changing the belt and I would like if possible to avoid main dlrs .
I have always done my own work and probably changing the belt would be OK - I would just like to know if there are any 'must have' locking pins etc . Some cars now don't have keys to locate the pulleys for example - great fun if you only find out this after removing the pulley .
Any advice or links etc greatly appreciated . Really like the Santa Fe and want to keep it in top shape .

My problem is an intermittent engine miss on a 2000 Sonata 2.0 litre petrol 16V 4 cylinders manual transmission. The miss is just a sudden jerk/thud in the engine. At times the engine cuts out totally. But you can start the engine up immediately after, without a CEL.
It has occurred during normal highway cruising and during acceleration. It has also gone for extended periods of time without happening. It differs from an ignition miss in that it may happen like once - all cylinders quite for one brief cycle and then resume as if nothing happens.
It has been my experience with ignition problems that they usually act like just one cylinder quits firing while the others continues, this isn't the case.
This is more like someone switches the key off and back on suddenly
I have left the car into garage number of times no faults are recorded on the ecm.
I have had plugs and leads changed also have changed the fuel relay. I have had the crank angle sensor or its connector checked for deformation or loose fit no apparent problems. Also the vent on the fuel tank has being adjusted
And the problem still happens with full tank (thinking it might have being a lose piece of plastic in tank.)
Still no closer a bit hesitant to go back to garage.

Hi everyone,
Newbie here, I just bought a Hyundai H100 recently, had no problems until the dashboard light, the parking lights and the rear lights all went off. As in any vehicle I tried to change the fuses - didn't work - then I checked the bulbs were all working - they are. and it's highly unlikely they would all go at the same time.
As someone said previously - it is impossible to get a works manual - easier to find the holy grail i reckon. So what is the problem please...anyone help????
The front headlights - indicators and brakelights all work fine, I am stumped!!! Its a Hyundai H100 Turbo van and I'm in London, U.K (if that helps)
Thanks for your time.
Larry.

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to comment about all the fuel consumption complaints.
From what I know, the manufacturers conduct their tests in absolutely ideal conditions that cannot really happen in real life . They do that so they can advertise the lowest possible MPG figure. I think that is the thing with all car companies.
You can't buy a 2.7 ltr V6 petrol, 1700 kg weighing, 215/65/16 tire wearing SUV and expect it to take you to work every day like a 1.0 ltr compact town car....It's like some other people that buy a MAZDA RX-8 (sports car, rotary engine) and complain after.
You have to know what you're buying.
I myself am about to order the 2.0 crdi 4x4 model. It looks like a well built car, and the reviews in magazines are pretty good (at least for the 2.0 petrol +torque for the diesel).

Been moching at many topics regarding Air Intakes.
Which is better for my 1.3i accent? Short air or cold air intake?
Either way, id run piping fromt he fog lamp hole to the intake to get most air to it...would prefer the low end power really, setting off and that!
Where abouts in the uk can i get one?
Cheers,

Hi,
I'm newbie. I hope that someone can help me. I have a 1997 Accent 1.3Si (UK). Am having gearbox trouble. It started with tight selection of gears - particularly 2nd & 4th. Had to drive 3miles home stuck in 2nd gear. With help off my wife, she wiggled the gear stick & selected gears (without engine running). Found them stiff to select. I stuck my head under the bonnet, looking for trouble. Could not see anything broken. Suddenly the gear stick became loose. (inside the car) . The selector rods mounted on top of the gearbox did not move. If I pushed the rods toward the bulkhead my wife could select gears. But it would then stick in that gear. Does any one have a clue what it wrong?
No stupid replies please!

Hi everyone, hopefully someone can help. This is my first car so I don't really have a clue.

When I start up the car (just turn the key, I'm not touching anything else!) the car revs really loudly and i have to leave it alone for a bit to calm down before I put it into gear, otherwise it makes a horrible noise.
Then, when changing from 1st to 2nd gear it revs madly and shudders. I may be a learner driver, but my instructor's car NEVER does anything like this.. so basically I don't think it's anything I'm doing.
I wouldn't mind but the gear change thing is really embarressing and this morning the car engine sounded a little bit like a hairdryer and, understandably, I found this worrying.
Thanks for any advice you can offer

The UK Government encourages all its citizens to visit its No 10 Petition site and there is currently a petition there that all UK 4x4 citizens should really sign- If there are enough signatures the government will often drop a proposed peice of legislation as it may prove to be too unpopular to continue.
Please look at this :-
Please everyone sign this one.- It reads-
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to To stop the Harassment of 4x4 Owners & drivers. More details (if you look at more details on the site it tells you who has signed it - Yes I have)
Submitted by David Willey of S-O-R-T – Deadline to sign up by: 11 March 2007 – Signatures: 364
and you do it by going here.

Good day to all UK Tuscon CRTD Owners.
How do you find your new vehicle?
Is it a pleasure to drive?
What mileage have you covered to date?
What mileage to the gallon are you getting?
ARE YOU PRESENTLY DIS-SATISFIED WITH YOUR VEHICLES MPG ? IF SO READ ON PLEASE
I am semi-retired and am intending to compile a full Excel spreadsheet showing vehicles spec., (ie 2.0 CRTD CDX) Date of Purchase, Age of Owner (To show we are not speed kings), Current Mileage, Current MPG and anything else that you can provide to prove the problem.
(Your names and addresses and a contact email address would also help).
I fully understand and advise that I have no intention of passing these details on to anyone at all (Unless you agree that I can put them to Hyundai who should really know us all!).
Once completed the Excel report can be presented to Hyundai UK for them to send to Korea to prompt them into providing a solution to what appears at this time to be excessive fuel consumption of one of the most inspiring vehicles that I have owned. (The MPG promised by Hyundai was definitely the clinching factor in my purchase...I could have bought another proven produced 4x4 for the same amount of cash!)
If you agree with this idea please forward all you can to:-
tuscon.dieselmpg@virgin.net
A copy of the final result will be sent to all Owners that assist prior to being sent to Hyundai
Regards
Geoff

Hi. Have placed my order today for my first Hyundai - a silver Santa Fe diesel for March delivery.
Total 'cost to change' price for me was £17,300.
This price includes the car, PX (£1K), fixed towbar with twin electrics, 5yr Hyundai service package and Hyundai accessories consisting of sill guards, wind deflectors, carpet protectors, head lamp protectors, boot tray, Hyundai roof bars and colour coded/switched reversing sensors.
I think I got a good deal.
Buying from Maidstone but also offered a good deal from Blackfen dealer - both of these in Kent. Would recommend doing business with either of them.

Hoping someone can help.
I have an S reg Hyundai coupe F2 2ltr.
I have just started experiencing problems with it. I have only owned it for about 3mths.
Sometimes, when i start the engine it will start fine but as soon as it has started the revs drop & so it cuts out.

It so far does this about 3 - 5 time & then it will start OK and I can drive away fine.

Does anyone know what this might be? I would rather get this seen to before it carry's on and ends up being something serious and an expensive job.
Thanks

Since I bought my 2.0 petrol Tuscon in January, the fuel consumption has been awful. I am getting an average of 20mpg (uk Gallon) I was fobbed off initialy by Hyundai, who told me to let the engine run in, and that it must be the way I drive. After constant phone calls, with 3000 mile on the clock, they took it for a test drive and said the consumption was fine. They say that at 60 mph they got an average of 28mpg. Firstly, it should be getting 40mpg, and secondly I haven't got over 23mpg, even with not going over 3000revs.
Hyundai customer services ordered a testing computer, this measures how much petrol goes into the system. 5 weeks later, it still hadn't arrived, so I rang customer services. They told me that there is a problem with the Diesal Tuscons, and that in Europe there are major problems being reported with the consumption on the petrol version. Hyundia are now investigating and trying to find a solution. They should (they say) have it sorted by July.

Hi..
I am new to this forum and have been reading all the posts about the fuel consumption problems in the UK concerning the Tucson.
I have a diesel cdx model, and have seen nothing on any other forums about the sensor upgrade and engine managment tweak, my question is should I contact my dealer or contact Hyundai UK to see if i can get this upgrade done (is it confirmed yet)?
Apart from the fuel issue, I love the car, and have done over 12000 miles since new.

This appears to be getting passed around most car forums and must be causing havoc.
a lot of people are emailing the address that corresponds to their area, in order to try and get something done about the ridiculous fuel prices in the UK just now......anything is worth a try.....
Just copy and paste the main body (bold) into an email, and send to the email address that corresponds to your area........
"Its about time we all stood together and did something about this. Blocking pumps etc, never works, as the government control the news, and they will just turn the public who are too afraid to do anything against the motorists who DO strand against prices. But tens of thousands of emails should make them take notice............"
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am contacting you at my disgust at the cost of fuel in the UK.
We currently have one of the highest rates of taxation on fuel for any country in the world.
How can this be justified?
We have supported many of the oil producing countries in recent years with both financial and mortal costs, but still the price keeps increasing, at an alarming rate.
I appreciate the cost of crude has increased but the added exaggerated weight of tax on top is not acceptable.
Please explain to me how you arrive at this pricing structure and why?
I am sure that the cost is not indicative of the cost at source of crude. This is a fact that I believe is borne out by fuel prices at pumps worldwide.
Please give this mail the respect it deserves and respond with the relative answers.
Best regards.

Hi everyone I thought this article I found today in the Wisebuyers Guide (www.wisebuyers.co.uk)says what we as Tucson diesel owners have been trying to get across to those who ridicule the reasons for which we regularly complain..FUEL CONSUMPTION.
Here is the uncut article for your perusal....
"May Market Report
In a month when the price of a litre of unleaded petrol rose to over 80 pence, registrations of fuel-saving diesel cars accounted for a record 32.5 per cent of April's new car market (source: SMMT). 60,692 new diesel models took to Britain's road for the first time, accelerating the drive towards diesel as the fuel of choice for huge numbers of motorists.
Not long ago, most diesel cars were bought by fleet operators keen to reduce running costs to the lowest possible levels. According to motor trade experts here at WiseBuyers, the majority of buyers of new MPVs and 4x4s are now actively choosing oil-burning engines rather than thirstier petrol alternatives. People carriers and family/leisure 4x4s are two important growth areas in the car market; and they're areas where private buyers far outnumber fleet and company users.
Most family users find that today's clean, efficient modern diesels suit their needs well. Outright performance is not usually a big issue for them but affordable ownership is - especially now that fuel costs nearly £4 a gallon. For example, a Land Rover Freelander 2.0 Td4 estate giving an average 37mpg has a clear 10mpg advantage over a 1.8 petrol model. This translates into a fuel cost of about 10 pence per mile for the diesel and 13.5 pence for the petrol car. In the MPV market, the savings are equally impressive: a Ford Galaxy 1.9 TD Ghia gives an average 44mpg, while the 2.3 petrol alternative only manages 28mpg; the fuel cost saving increases to nearly 5 pence per mile. Factor in higher resale values for diesel models (up to £2500 more for a popular three-year-old diesel MPV, and even more for luxury 4x4 models) and the wise buyer is clearly 'quids in'."
I do wish Hyundai would read this and then listen to us carefully as if the Freelander 2.0 Tdi can give 37mpg and the Ford Galaxy 1.9 can give 44 mpg why oh why cannot the Hyundai 2.0 CRTD improve the measly 31.7 to the gallon that I personally have achieved.
WHAT SAY YOU ALL NOW !
Regards
Geoff

Got a new Santa Fe and was wondering if it was worth the time, effort and money to use auxillary springs on the rear suspension as I tow a caravan. Caravan weighs 1330Kg so should be OK with the standard suspension but your thoughts would be appreciated.
I have looked at Grayston's (www.GraystonEngineering.com) rubber coil spring assisters (code GE14 - about £10 each) and their spring assisters (code 24C02 (I think) - about £40 each). Both types are used with the standard suspension springs.
Thoughts ?

Hi All,
I recently bought a Hyundai Coupe F2 (1998 - 99) Model.
The changes on this original shape limited edition are pretty superficial. However, I like the styling and chose this above a Mitsubishi FTO as the parts would be easier to come across ---- or so I thought.
Yesterday I hit a pothole in the road, damaging one of the limites edition alloys. I have reported this to my council and intend to persue a claim for compensation.
Upon contacting Hyundai today I have found that these wheels are now marked "obselete" I was also informed that other F2 parts are no longer produced/stocked in the UK. Such as the destinctive F2 front bumper.
For a car which was sold at a higher price (originally & second hand) based on these cosmetic differences I find it unacceptable that the parts are no longer supplied!!!! PArticularly on a car made for UK specs that is only 6 years old.
I previously had a Vauxhall that was 15 years old and there were no problems finding parts for that.
When I purchased the car I also required car mats.... again a failure on Hyundai's part in making/stocking any car mats for original shape coupe's.
Does anyone know where in the UK/web I can get hold of a 16" 5 stud F2 coupe wheel? .... I at least need a quote to follow up a claim with the council.Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi.
I have a hyundai sonata cdx 99 model, my problem is that i could not start the car, everything is fine petrol is going to engine, the car has immobilized itself and the doors wont open with the keyfob, the hyundai dealer diagnosed the immobilizer control unit to be faulty, i then purchased a used control unit, an ecu, door locks, ignition barrel, and a set of keys. When this all was replaced by the mechanic the car started, i got happy then, but the next day the same problem happened it wont start. what could be the problem and also is there a way in which we can disable the immobilizer unit so it wont interfere. Please help me. Thanks.
