Hi,
I have written a Do It Yourself article on how to change rear drum brakes on a Getz and replace them with disc ones. Everything is explained there in English from parts needed to refurbishing and assembly. You can find the article on Slovenian Hyundai Club forums:
HERE!A quick preview:

Best regards Getz owners,
Janez

The cars stereo has been replaced at the manufacturer, as have the wires and the speaker but after around 30 seconds of playing a CD the drivers ( English, so Right side) door goes off and will come back at random points but go off again after a few seconds...
Help?!
Very mysterious =S

I switched from a Honda Civic to a Hyundai Getz 1.4 2006 model
The major issue I noticed is that when I am pressing the clutch
to change a gear (regardless from which gear to which) the revs
don't fall rapidly , so the engine is still high reving as if I didn't
raise my foot from the gas pedal.
This is very annoying.
Is this a common issue ?
Am I doing something wrong ?
To avoid this matter I have to stay at 'neutral' (between gear changes)
for about 1 sec ,waiting the engine revs to fall,before I put the next gear.
Any advice is really appreciated.
(Sorry for my English

Hey all,
Just have a question re. those annoying three bolts that you're meant to fasten your child seat to. I don't plan on having any kids for a good long while and those bolts have been the bane of my life for the last 10 months that I've had the car. Boot space is already limited (I have a lot of musical equipment to drive around) without those bolts taking up room and limiting space. Also on a couple of occasions I've had heavy cardboard boxes in the boot that have ended up with a hole in them when they slid around and hit the bolts. And just yesterday my friend injured his hand while putting in a heavy bass amp on those bolts.
I'm totally sick of having them there and so I was wondering if anyone has removed these bolts before? Are they required to be there or like something will fall apart or something? Can I just take em off? Is it hard to do? How do I do it? Please help! My Getz is a MY09 1.6 5dr.
Thanks,
David

This is my 1.1 Black Getz, it is a 2005 base model.
Would like to get some new wheels for it, Flat Wiper Blades and a Bee Sting aerial. Let us know what you think.

I just purchased a new Getz which includes a bluetooth radio. I have a N95 Nokia mobile phone and paired it with the radio without any problems. It worked very well for the first week, and then suddenly did not connect to the radio. I deleted the previous pairing and paired it again, and it worked, but again did not connect the next day when I got into the car. Now I cannot get it to connect or pair to the phone at all. I tested the phone with other Bluetooth devices, and it works, so the problem must be the radio. Is any body else experiencing the same problem, or know how I can get this sorted out? It's driving me nuts!

hi,
I have a 2006 Getz its on 61 000km. It gets serviced regularly and is generally well maintained.
Over the last 5 months we have been having an issue with the idle. When i am pulling up to a stop, and i put the car in neutral. The revs drop to about 500rpm, the car shudders/pings/vibrate and the revs pick up to about 650-700 and it stabilizes.
Any idea what this could be???
And recently the car has switched off whilst driving, and started again on the 4th or 5th turn. This happened twice in the last 3 days. I doubt it is related.
The car was serviced at 58 000, it was early for the 60 000 service, but I hoped new plugs would sort out the idle issue.
thanks

Thought I posted this already but here goes again.
We have a 1.5 petrol manual that is giving two start problems:
First the clutch isolation switch for starter power is intermittent - switch key on and off and pump the clutch pedal to start.
2nd, occasionally the starter cranks OK but engine will not run, just spins on the starter.
Can't see that they are related but seems a bit coincidental.
Has anybody seen this before or know what the problem / fix is?
Cheers, Tuft

A week ago i took my Getz to get tinted windows and I shot a few photos of it ... it was raining that day and the light wasn't at its best so excuse the pictures.

I also fitted it with Isotta aluminium pedals and a lot of sound proofing ... so here it is:

Door sound proofing (great experience it helps soooooo much!!):

Underbonnet sound proofing (original Hyundai part for diesel getz):

New alu pedals from isotta:

I have a 2008 Hyundai 1.4gsi Getz I purchased new last year.
The blue low temperature light has never lit, even when starting on snowy days.
Dealer investigated problem and found LED missing on the circuit board.
They have said the only solution is to replace the instrument panel which they are willing to do under warranty, unfortunately the Odometer will be set to zero.
I have 2 questions.
1) As it is not illegal to set the mileage to make it accurate (it is only illegal to falsely alter the mileage) why can't the Hyundai Dealer set the new odometer to the correct mileage. There are companies on the internet that offer this service so it must be technically possible.
2) It seems to me that the Blue temp light is superfluous, do other Hyundai Getz 1.4gsi owners have this light?

Car is Korean made, year 2008.
Problem #1
Car wont start, randomly.
If indicator (key) lights up, it starts up normally, otherwise it wont start. Indicator light does not always light up.
I suspect coded key or immobilizer problem. Problem persists with spare key also. I've heard that it's usually failure of the antenna (in-car) that reads code from the key.
Problem #2
Cold start / rpm fluctuation problem
It starts normally on a really cold day. Things get weird when it's warmer outside, like picking it up in the warm afternoon on a parking lot.
Rpm fluctuates, it goes down too low, then up, 3 or 4 times this way until engine warms up a bit.
I've herd that solution is to change software (Hyundai has like 4 different setups for that engine), the downside is that fuel consumption goes up after that.
I've found out that both problems are common with Getz owners. Any ideas?

Hi all,
I have done a search but could find nothing on the problem i am having.
The radio/cd player in my 03 getz has no power.
I recently shorted the battery and fried the main battery/alternator fuse and since then i have had no power to the radio.
I have checked both the 1amp fuse at the back of the radio and the fuse in the inside fuse box but they are both fine.
I have also put a test light on the fuse circuit itself but there was no power there either.
Is there a fuse in the engine bay that may have blown or is there a chance i may have fried the wires between the battery and the inside fuse box?
All other interior electricals work and the illumination to the radio still has power. Has anyone else had this problem or has any ideas how to fix it?
Cheers
Shaun

Hi Guys
Hoping that you can be of assistance.
So I was driving my 07 1.6L Auto Getz yesterday and the engine immoboliser light came on I lost all power (No power steering and no revs whatsoever) so I pulled over turned the car off and tried to start it again, it wouldn't kick over =(, then I pulled the key out of the ignition locked and unlocked the doors it took a few turns but I got it to turn over =) was happy then getting it to start and it seemed to drive ok.
After I got home I went to go out again and the engine light was on constantly for the whole drive but the car seemed to drive ok. Went to reverse out of the drive way again and the engine cut out but it kicked straight back over (solid engine light still on, but no immboliser light this time). Took it back home disconnected the battery for about 45 mins in an attempt to reset the ecu but reconnected the battery and the engine light is still on.
Any thoughts?

I'll be buying a new Getz 2 door hatchback 1.4 with manual transmission in a few weeks.
The day after I receive it I'll need to do a highway journey of 1,800 kilometres, over 2 days. The weather conditions will be warm to very hot.
Obviously I don't want to stress a brand new engine, so do you guys have any tips?
I presume I'll just need to keep the speed not more than about 80 kph or so, and not rev the engine too high.
Would this long journey on such a new small car be likely to cause any later engine problems? Or will everything be ok if I just take it easy?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I want to replace the brake fluid in my getz 1.1 with ABS since it looks cloudy. Reading the manual it appears I need a scan tool to bleed and remove air bubbles in the braking system. I understand the scan tool is needed to remove air bubbles from the braking system but do I need it just to replace the fluid. If it cannot be done without the scan tool, is bleeding a dealership only job? or is there a cheep tool out there to do this.

Hi there
I have a 2009 1.6 getz (G4ED) done 7000 Km (4300 miles) few weeks ago it started developing a light ticking sound but only when it's cold, when the water reaches about 70 degrees Celsius the ticking is gone and the engine is as smooth as butter, the car is working fine, no oil consumption at all no overheating, i can do 170 Km/H all day long with the AC on with no trouble at all.
this noise is very apparent between 1500-2000 RPM , if i blip the throttle to say 3000 rpm i could hear it clearly when the rpm is falling down between 2000 to 1500 rpm, it's not clear at idle or above 2500rpm and it doesn't increase with load.
i don't think its a piston slap because the ticking is fast and very light, i heard piston slap before and it was slower but stronger sounding and it increases with load, so what do you guys think? is it the lifters or the injectors??
the last time i changed oil and filter they used shell 5W/50 mineral oil not synthetic or semi synth, could a bad oil cause that ticking.
The only mods I have are a K&N panel filter and ScanGauge II

Hello All,
I recently noticed that the right front position lamp was not working/ burned.
Although i spend a lot of hours i didn't manage to remove it.
So I suppose that the only way to replace it is to remove the front lantern?? There must be an easier way or not ?

Basically I listen to a lot of CDs and almost never use the radio
I'm aware the max volume is 46 and I usually play my music anywhere from 20-35
When driving along sometimes listening to my music, I hear a loud bleep from the CD player and it displays a "TOO HOT" warning...
What's too hot? The speakers? The CD Player? Something else?
I mean it carries on playing the music but that's not the point, you don't display a message like that if everything is A-OK...
Also, I've only had the car for what, a few weeks and already the speakers are making a vibrating rattling noise at high volumes when there's substantial bass, they never used to. Poor quality speakers? It sounds more like it's the casing than the actual speakers themselves.
Secondly... the MPG
It's a 1.4 CDX Automatic (urgh, I have a manual license but unfortunately I've been condemned to an automatic car, don't ask why)
It displays usually around 38-40 MPG which is fine, if it actually did that...
But does it? Not even close
Driving on a 10 mile route, not hilly or anything the fuel range went from 97 to 83 in 10 miles... argh!?
I can't afford to keep buying fuel for such short journeys
Usually when I drive it's around 8:30am and not exactly the warmest time of day, but it never used to be this bad with the fuel
And the physical fuel guage seems to dramatically drop in a single journey too, and doesn't really match up to the range computer :|
Is there any reason why it seems to be eating the petrol? I really don't want to take it to the dealer cos... they aren't helpful at all
Thanks in advance (and sorry for the moan)

Is there anything you have to be carefull of when replacing the engine coolant or is it just a matter of draining the old fluid flushing the system and refilling.On the last service check it was meant to be replaced but the service department didn't replace it because of the low mileage I do.I was under the impression that engine coolant needed to be relaced on time its been in the car rather than mileage travelled. Could somebody enlighten me on that please.

Hi to all
I am new to this site and I have found it to be very interesting. I recently had loss of power with my 1.1 2004 getz and when I took it to my mechanic he told me I have trouble with the crank shaft. When I spoke to friends about it I have been told that they heard about it and that it looks like its a common factory problem. Is this true??
Thanks.

Folks,
Just bought a 2009 Hyundai Getz SX 1.6.
I'd appreciate help with a couple of questions:
Q1. The radio in the stereo system worked fine yesterday. This morning my wife put a CD in the stereo system and now the stereo system says it is in Aux mode.
The CD isn't playing and it isn't possible to get the stereo system out of Aux mode. Also, the CD won't eject.
Any ideas? Also is there a way to eject the CD manually e.g. like using a paper click on macintosh computers or something like that?
Q2. The manual for the car provides almost no information on the stereo system. Is there a PDF or something on the stereo system that can be downloaded somewhere which provides more information on it and how to use its various features e.g. bluetooth with a mobile phone etc.

Hi my name is Linus and I live in Sweden. Im 22 years old and im working as a Hyundai-mechanic. After a time working in the shop I tought I should try a hyundai car. Had a Opel Vectra -93 before but there was getting more and more trouble with it.
So I bought a black Getz 1.6 GLS Sport 2005 manual with 48000 km on the odometer.
At first I wanted to sell it because I tought it was a little bit slow and not my kind of car.
But then I changed my mind and started to make some small beautifications and then I couldnt stop. =)
Now I really like the Getz, its little and agile, low fuel consumption but still quite alert. I wanted the 1.6 beacause the 1.1 and 1.3 is a little bit slow for me.
Here is some pics on the modifications Ive done so far. And the goal is to make it very very dark =)
[attachment=12479:Getz_1.JPG]
[attachment=12480:Getz_2.JPG]
Orginal
[attachment=12481:Getz_3.JPG]
First mod, black lexus lights
[attachment=12482:Getz_4.JPG]
Then headlampspoilers from Korea.
[attachment=12483:Getz_5.JPG]
I removed the front bumper to touch up some of the parts on the front impact girder.
[attachment=12484:Getz_6.JPG]
Painted the radiator black.
[attachment=12485:Getz_7.JPG]
Looks agressive with the black radiator and the front bumper removed =)
[attachment=12486:Getz_8.JPG]
[attachment=12487:Getz_9.JPG]
[attachment=12488:Getz_10.JPG]
I also removed the orginal grill net and mounted a custom sheet grill net for cars.
[attachment=12489:Getz_11.JPG]
Grinded all the brakes and painted them black.
[attachment=12490:Getz_12.JPG]
[attachment=12491:Getz_13.JPG]
[attachment=12492:Getz_14.JPG]
Reattached the border. Painted the emblem black and reattached on the border. It looked too naked in the front with out the border. I dont like that you can see the horn and the hood opener.
[attachment=12493:Getz_15.JPG]
Things that Im planning to modify and replace.
Remove the emblems on the boot and paint the emblem black.
Tint the rear windows black but not nonseethroughable.
Mount 16x7 rims with 205/40 or 205/45 tires. Ive been thinking about wich colour I shall have on the rims. White or black?
Paint the non-reflected areas in the headlamp and mount a Bi-Xenon kit.
Write some comments, its always fun to hear other peoples thoughts.

Hi all,
I bought a 2003 Getz 1.1 CDX in December 2008, and have been very pleased with the car experiencing no problems whatsoever - until today!
After driving for around 15 minutes this morning, we noticed a loud tapping sound coming from the engine, which got louder at higher revs. We pulled over into a car park, called the AA, and ended up having the car towed to a nearby Nationwide garage.
We were advised at the garage that the noise was caused by a damaged or worn part in the engine (he didn't mention the part name), and that the only solution was to have the engine replaced - at a cost of £2600 + VAT! He also mentioned that this is a known fault with Getz's manufactured around 2003 and 2004, and that many were recalled due to this fault. I have searched online for references to Getz recalls, and the only one I can find relates to ABS problems.
I have also read a few posts regarding engine noises on this forum, which most seem to be attributed to hydraulic tappet issues, however the symptoms do not seem to match the problems in this case (e.g. the noise persists when the car is idle). As you can imagine, I am very reluctant to pay £2600 to repair a car that is worth approximately £2000, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Just to mention, this car is outside the 5 year manufacturer's warranty.
I hope I have provided enough detail (this is my first post!), but please let me know if any further info is required.
Thanks in advance!

The boot light in my 1.1 Getz is constantly on, does anyone know where the switch is for it, I have looked around the tailgate and cannot see it?

Hi,
I hope someone can help me before I completely lose it and have a hair pulling tantrum in the middle of the street....
My Hyundai Getz remote key stopped working properly a little while ago (naturally I was in a hurry to pick the kids up from school...Gggrrrr).... I was able to use the spare key and changed the battery in the other one. The problem hasn't gone away though, it's an intermittent problem. This morning both keys wouldn't work at all for about an hour, then all of a sudden one of them worked. I took the car straight to my local Hyundai garage and when the technician tried the keys they both worked!!! He was very helpful but at the end of the day he said they can't fix a problem that doesn't appear to be there. He said that they could do a diagnostic check but felt sure that it would come back as 'no problems to report'. I drove back home and when I got out, guess what? The keys wouldn't lock the car! I tried for about 10 minutes and eventually the car did lock.
I've owned the car for about 2 years and this problem has only happened in the last month. The lights are flashing on the key housing so it's not the batteries. Could it be something to do with the remote receiver inside the car? Has anyone else had this problem?
I would be grateful for any comments.
Thank you,
Polly

Hi,
I found heating pads for the 2 front seats of my Getz 1.5Crdi but the switches that came along don't fit the holes in the front console next to the handbrake.
So I presume that there must be switches for the factory heated seats.
Could anyone inform me if they exist and where I would be able to find and order them.
I can help with the pads if somebody would be interested.
Grtz, Frank
