My '94 Sonata (V6) has just come back from the workshop for a head gasket repair. The mechanic said the block is badly pitted around the water jacket at the head-gasket ports and I need to look at getting another engine soon.
Is this a regular feature of Sonata V6s? I bought the car around 12 months ago and suspect this is why the last owner off-loaded it. I noticed that my Excel (X2) engine is the same as a Mitsi Lancer engine, are Sonata V6s the same as Magna V6s?
Thanx, and if there any good V6s around the Gold Coast, Qld...?

hello,
i am a hyundai technician in new zealand.i am based in a busy hyundai workshop and have seen most of the problems posted in these forums.although we have a problem i have not seen descibed these forums.
we have now witnessed the second santa fe CM 2.2 diesel come to us with a cracked piston crown.
has anyone else seen this before? both santa fe engines that have failed have had low mileage (40 000ish kms) and a good service history.
anyone?

There are three of us with birthdays either on the 21st (Kev07) or the 24th of March (BitshiBec and I). To celebrate this, I have decided to organise a mega cruise.
The last cruise saw 100+ cars and even more people at the spit on the goldcoast, for this event i'm hoping for many more.
This is extended out to many different car clubs, but isnt just for the car enthusiasts. I'd like friends and family to come along to this day as this will be a huge event cruising around parts of Brisbane.
Hope to see many of you on Saturday night.
We will most likely order pizza or somethin for dinner.. =]
There will also be clubbing afterwards in the city.. So bring out ur best clothes and come party after the cruise.. Will be a good night..!!Already have 30 confirmed and many more possibly attending.. So come out and have some fun, chat to old and new mates, will hopefully have a dj out at the meets aswell but this is not guaranteed.. We always have car stereos in case..

Any questions please contact me.
The trip is estimated to be 90kms (approx 1 hour 30 mins).FULL DETAILS NOW UP ON THE FLYERS!!!

Cruise to Mount Sugar Loaf - 22 March 2009
BYO BBQ or picnic lunch at the lookout carpark 1:00PM (rock up from 12:30)
Location:

Sydney and beyond crew can meet at a place of their choice to cruise the F3. One of us will most likely meet you at the Wyong twin servo's to help lead you in.
Hunter Valley crew (cessnock, musswelbrook, maitland & singleton) meet at Kurri Kurri bowling club carpark at 12pm to leave by 1230.
Newcastle crew if you want to organise a cruise together we can meet at Wallsend Twin servo (Westbound) or just head straight out. Im easy...
Invite to any Hyper Members or associated Hyundai Fanatics.
After the BBQ and happy snapping those who wish can join us for a cruise into Newcastle Foreshore. The scene on a sunday afternoon is awesome police rarely defecting or chasing us out as its a laid back feel. (not like friday or saturday nights )
There is some interest from HyperNSW so there should be some Hyundai's coming
But if anyone here is keen, let me know by replying here.
Cheers

Hi all,
The 1992 S-coupe wont start, floods and chugs really bad , thats if it starts at all
So now having worked out how to fault find using a circuit tester and i get a 3-1-4-5 code
So I then find that it means a Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
Next step.............. Can any one tell me where the Bl**dy thing is grin.gif
These cars have more sensors than I have taste buds in my mouth
All help, hints, tips or suggestions gratefully received

Hi Hyguys,
Someone liked the hubcap on my 2000 Grandeur more than I did, and it's missing.
Anybody know where I can get one? (apart from the dealer - crazy prices - I only want the hubcap, not the whole car!!). It's the plastic cap covering the wheel nuts on the factory alloy wheels.
Or even a the number of a wrecker somewhere which has a Grandeur so I can contact them would be helpful.
Cheers all.

Can anyone chime in and let me know if you have them and I'd like to order but don't have a clue to go about doing it.

Just wondering if anyone had an estimate price on what it would cost to replace the back door panel on I think it's a 2003 Accent or Elantra??
I ask because I accidently hit an old ladies car but I think she's a bit crooked and she is gonna tell me the price is higher than what it really is. And hopefully we don't need to get the insurance companies involved.!
Anyway any help is appreciated!!

My daughter has just purchased this car and I would like some help in deciphering the VIN plate so I know whether it is an Excel, GL or GLS
The Vin Plate details are
HYUNDAI EXCEL
2 91 Seats 5
KMHUA21JPLU005089
27235
It also will not go into 5th gear so I need a workshop manual. I read on the forums that one is available on a web site but I cannot log in to get it.
A site in the UK is offering workshp manual downloads but so far no response to my email asking how many pages etc. and is it a full manual.

The locking mechanism on the front passenger door of my 1995 Lantra is sticking. I have tried to remove the interior door trim by removing all of the screws I can see. Howver the panel still seems reluctant to move. Before I try levering it or something equally "violent" is there any thing else you have to do before this panel will come away from the door?

Hey all,
Well this is my first post here, couldn't really find much after a quick search.
I'm basically looking at helping out a friend who has a mid to late 90's Hyundai Excel, so was after any info as to what oil / oil filter is generally used and anything else that will be helpful.
The car has done approx 138,xxxkm and is a 1.5l manual.
Thanks,
JT

Hey all,
picked up an excel as a cheap to run car while my other car is in the panel shop having some work done. Everything is good, great car so far, but the previous owner didn't really take too good care of the mechanical side of things and i discovered the airconditioing's reason for not functioning was the lack of a belt driving the compressor!
However, n closer inspection, i found the whole idler pully that tensions the belt to be completely missing, all that is left is the bracket that bolts to the block.
I've visited at least a dozen wreckers and got a price for new though hyundai spare parts, the new price is just crazy, and none of the wreckers have a broken motor that they're willing to split the part from, but are more than happy to sell me a complete motor or a complete a/c retrifit kit.
I'm hoping that someone on these forums might know of someone wrecking a '98/99 twin cam car (due to accident damage or something) that might be willing to part with the Idler pulley assembly.
Been so hot in sydney lately that its really really uncomfortable as i spend all day driving to and from jobs so i badly need a/c.
Any help would be very much appreciated, especially if i can track down the part in Sydney. I'm willing to travel to pickup from just about anywehre from ingleburn to penrith to gosford, just gotta get the part but prefer to not spent $200+ on it brand new from spare parts.

Hi all, we have a Grandeur 1999 and have had various problems with it since new but the latest is the dearest yet, a suspected computer fault where the car went to limp mode eg stuck in 3rd gear ...Hyundai came up with a computer code 1723, it was a relay costing just less then $10. but when replaced made no difference so now we are looking at $2,800.00

for a new computer anyone else out there got or had a similar problem PLEASE i need your advice
thanks in advance
