While European automakers initially ignored hybrid technology, it seems as though the craze has finally caught on, with everyone from Ferrari to Porsche announcing hybrid models of one kind or another. Ferrari will debut a 599 Hybrid concept, while Porsche will show the GT3 R Hybrid race car and a hybrid version of the 2011 Cayenne.
Porsche's new parent company, Volkswagen, also has plenty of hybrid news. VW will showcase its new Touareg SUV, with a hybrid version. In addition, another VW-brand company, Audi, will show off a hybrid version of its new A8. Other hybrids include the Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid and the Lexus CT200h hybrid.
Other show highlights are sure to include a new high-performance version of the Lamborghini Gallardo, referred to as either the LP57-4 SuperVeloce or the LP570-4 Superleggera, as well as Audi's new RS5. Plus, Mercedes-tuner Carlsson is debuting its new C25, an SL65-based supercar while VW/Audi-tuner ABT Sportsline is showing-off a 600-hp Audi R8 GTR, an R8 Spyder, A8 and a modified Volkswagen Golf R.

Over the past three years, Lexus ES350s and Toyota Camrys and Priuses have been accelerating at wide-open throttle without driver instruction and the news did break until an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer and three family members were killed by a runaway ES350. That accident occurred in Santee, California, near San Diego in late August and the ES350 was a loaner vehicle from a local Lexus dealer. Toyota has come out and said that improperly placed rubber floor mats are to blame.
I don't believe that the floor mats are responsible for a total of 16 deaths and well over 100 injuries through 2,000 reported incidents of Toyota and Lexus unintended acceleration. From several accounts I have read, one testimony from a Lexus technician who had a car take off on him, I believe Toyota's computerized throttle system is to blame. It incorporates absolutely no fail safes and will prohibit the transmission from being shifted out of gear under wide-open throttle. For example, a local Portland woman had her ES350 take off on her and she said that the floor mat was the first thing she checked. It was nowhere near the accelerator. Other accounts state that the car began to accelerate at full-throttle once the cruise control was disengaged or when the driver lifted off the acclerator to exit the freeway. A stuck floor mat would not cause this behavior and that's why I have such a hard time believing it.
Because it's Toyota, the media has been quietly ignoring this but a few people I have talked to believe this to be caused by driver error and/or misplaced floor mats. Seriously? If Hyundai Sonatas and Azeras were taking off and killing people, news agencies would be on it like white on rice and the public would be saying, "Well that's what you get for buying a Hyundai." It seems incredible to me that Toyota can kill people, issue a zip tie through the floor mat as a recall and get off scot-free while if anybody else had done it, their reputation would be shot. My mom drives a 2002 Lexus RX300 and I have told her to decline ANY loaner car that the dealership tries to give her.
Anybody else have an opinion on this?

While not the largest, the Geneva Auto Show is easily the most prestigious auto show in the world, attracting debuts of high performance models from some of the world's most exotic and revered brands. 2010 is shaping up to be no different.
Major debuts include a Ferrari hybrid concept based on the 500 GTB flagship, the 2011 BMW M5 and a new high-performance version of the Lamborghini Gallardo, referred to as either the LP57-4 SuperVeloce or the LP570-4 Superleggera.
We're also excited to see what the European tuners have on offer, with Mercedes-tuner Carlsson debuting its new C25, an SL65-based supercar and VW/Audi-tuner ABT Sportsline showing a 600-hp Audi R8 GTR, an R8 Spyder, A8 and a modified Volkswagen Golf R.
And speaking of the R, Volkswagen is set to announce a new R high-performance division at the show, with rumors of a Jetta R concept set for its debut.

The Chicago Auto Show might not have the media hype of such events as the Detroit, Frankfurt or Geneva shows, but with one of the largest venues and with the highest attendance, it's easily on of North America's premiere events on the automotive calendar.
Over the years it's become the venue for automakers to debut new trucks, SUVS and crossovers and 2010 is shaping up to be no different.
For 2010 the Chicago Auto Show promises such debuts as the 2011 Chevy Silverado Heavy Duty pickup truck, an EcoBoost Ford Edge and even a few updated trucks from Toyota.
Additional highlights include a concept version of Honda's upcoming next-generation Odyssey minivan as well as plug-in hybrid concept from Kia call the Ray. Nissan has also just announced that it will display in Chicago, with the premiere of the 370Z 40th Anniversary Edition sports car, as well as the new 2011 Infiniti M37 and M56.

http://www.justmorecars.com/ferrari/2008-fxx_evolution/
Ferrari FXX Evolution
The innovative FXX programme, based on the eponymous prototype car and launched by Ferrari in June 2005, is being extended to 2008/2009. The FXX, which is the most advanced GT ever created at Maranello, has been updated with an evolution package aimed at further improving its handling and performance. The package was developed as a result of Ferrari's collaboration with its Client Test Drivers and with the invaluable support of Michael Schumacher. The FXXs equipped with this package will also sport a new livery in addition to new rear wing profiles.
The FXX is not homologated for road use and there are no plans to compete with it either. In fact, the FXX prototype is designed exclusively for track driving as part of a specific R&D programme agreed with a selected group of just over 20 clients involving 14 group test sessions and 14 private ones in the last two years. Thanks to readings taken over the 16,500 kilometres of tests carried out in 2006 and the 18,500 kilometres covered in 2007, the modifications made to the car have focused on honing its aerodynamics, running gear and electronics. Seven-times Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher also joined the ranks of the client test drivers and gave the programme the benefit of his vast experience on several occasions.
Maranello's engineers studied the wealth of information gained to develop a kit which will cut the FXX's Fiorano lap time to under 1'16'' (previously it was 1'18''). The FXX's 6262 cc V12 engine can now punch out a massive 860 hp at 9500 rpm. Gearshifting takes just 60 ms, a drop of 20 ms on the previous time, and the gear ratios have been adapted to make use of the extra 1000 rpm now delivered by the engine.
The car's new traction control system, developed in close collaboration with the GES Racing Division engineers, gives the driver a choice of no less than nine different settings (plus the off position) which are selected using a switch on the central tunnel. This means that the driver really can modify the car's behaviour on the track from corner to corner, just as the Formula 1 drivers do to maximise performance and reduce tyre wear. The FXX's traction control is also now less invasive and more flexible, adapting more efficiently to the individual driving style of each driver - a requirement pinpointed when this very extreme car was being driven on the track by non-professional drivers.
The FXX's special 19" Bridgestone tyres now last longer too thanks to a new car setup and new front suspension geometry, while the Brembo brakes, which boast large Composite Ceramic Material (CCM) discs, are more efficient with the result that the brake pads last twice as long. Thanks to the drivers' feedback the Ferrari engineers have also developed new aerodynamic solutions aimed at increasing downforce over the rear axle. The FXX now sports a new rear diffuser, nolder and rear flaps which have combined to increase aerodynamic efficiency by 25% overall. The active front spoiler control system settings have been adjusted to take these modifications into account too. New telemetry monitoring of the steering angle and brake pump pressure will further boost the interaction between Client test drivers and the company's engineers also. From next year onwards, it will be possible for drivers to have two extra video cameras mounted on their car in addition the existing rear-facing one. This will, of course, give the drivers excellent rear visibility without having to impinge in any way on the car's aerodynamics.
The FXX evolution package includes participation in a series of track events that Ferrari is organising at international circuits for 2008/2009. Six events are planned for each year (two in North America, two in Europe and two in Asia). In addition to these, the FXXs will also be participating, as per tradition, in the prestigious end-of-season Ferrari World Finals.
As happened in 2006/2007, the cars will be backed up at each event by a 15-member official team made up of engineers, electronics experts and mechanics capable of providing complete assistance to clients. Needless to say, the latter will still be able to organise their own private individual track sessions in their car as well.

hey guys still new to this forum stuff so please bare with me...just a quick(general) question. If a vehicle gets in an accident and the insurance is going to cover all costs for the repairs, can a consumer request or ask for "aftermarket" parts(billet grill, front spoiler etc.) and upgrades(LED headlights,LED parking lights, mirrors w/ turn signals) was just wondering if the bodyshops(here in Washington state) would be willing to work w/ a consumer or does the insurance require all work done using OEM parts.... i know some aftermarket parts sometimes are cheaper than eom parts. just wonderin, if anyone knows please let me know(and no its not for my wifes Sonata, hehe) thanks ladies and gentlemen.. have a great rest of the week

Japan's equivalent to the SEMA Show, each year aftermarket companies show off their latest performance and tuning products at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
From the street to the track, companies like Blitz, HKS, JUN, 5Zigen, Volk and Veilside show off their latest products on some of the most wildly modified cars ever made.
And let's not forget the manufacturers. Most major OEMs set up shop at the Tokyo Auto Salon and display new models, concepts and race cars – including some very impressive Super GT cars. Many manufacturers will also use TAS to show off their latest in-house performance goodies, from brands like TRD, Mugen, NISMO and Ralliart.

DETROIT — Chrysler rolled into the North American International Auto Show pretty much empty-handed, so Ferrari took pity on its corporate sibling and sent over a 599XX so there’d be something worth seeing on the Chrysler stand.
For those whose blood doesn’t run rosso corsa, the 599XX is the sharpest track weapon the Scuderia builds short of its F1 cars. We first saw it almost a year ago at the Geneva auto show, but since Ferrari skipped Detroit this year it’s the only thing here wearing the cavallino rampante. It’s based on the magnificent 599 GTB Fiorano but is a different beast altogether. Maranello slathered this 700-horsepower rocket with all the latest high-tech hardware its racing department could muster.
That’s the Dodge Viper ACR, the 599’s second cousin by marriage, in the background. Let’s hope the children of the Fiat-Chrysler marriage turn out better than the Chrysler TC, that child born of Lee Iacocca’s fling with Maserati.

The North American International Auto Show, hosted each year in Detroit, appears set to return to its former glory for 2010. Many of the automakers absent from last year will be displaying and introducing models, while fears of bankruptcy for the U.S. manufacturers have been realized and have now subsided thanks to generous government aid and the help of foreign partners, the cooperation of the unions and a lot of tough decisions.
Important debuts for the first auto show of 2010 include the Honda CR-Z hybrid sports car, a Dedicated Hybrid Concept from Toyota, the BMW Z4 sDrive35i, the MINI Moke Concept and the 2011 Ford Mustang GT.

Kia is considering getting into the entry-level rear-drive sports car game with a new model that would likely be based on the architecture of the Genesis Coupe from sister company Hyundai. In an interview with the U.K.'s AutoCar, Kia design boss Peter Schreyer said while the model isn't in the company's product plan for the next two years it is something that he'd like to see. Schreyer warned, however, that as Kia is still an emerging company it would have to make a water-tight business car for the vehicle and not just build it for fun.
"We are not like Audi or Porsche," he said. "We are not in a position to just create something and then announce to the market that it's the perfect kind of sports car."
With the cars design likely inspired by the Kee Concept (above), Schreyer said that, "it would be important for the Kee to be rear-wheel drive. And there is, of course, already a rear-driven platform within the Hyundai-Kia group that we could look to use, if our timing was good." That platform is, of course, the Genesis Coupe's.
Schreyer did say that such a vehicle would compete against cars like the Mazda MX-5 Miata and Toyota's new rear drive model. Recent rumors have suggested that both Volkswagen and Nissan are investigating this marketplace as well.
"The car would not need to be very fast or very powerful," he said, "but it should be compact, affordable and fun – a true sports car."
If the project does go ahead, look for a rear-drive Kia sports car to debut before the current Genesis Coupe gets a remodel some time around 2013.

Ferrari 16M Scuderia Spider
The focus under the Prancing Horse this year at the Geneva Motor Show was clearly on the flagship 599, with its new HGTE package and 599XX track car, but Maranello also brought out the new Scuderia Spider 16M. The limited edition roadster was originally unveiled back in November at the Mugello race track in northern Italy to celebrate Ferrari's 16th Formula One constructors' title that was earned last year, but this was the first look we've had of it up close. Essentially a cross between the 430 Scuderia and the F430 Spider, the 16M is, according to Ferrari, the fastest convertible ever offered by the brand. With less than 500 examples being made, this may be the closest you ever get to seeing one.

My parents don't get rid of their cars....EVER. When I was seven years old, my mom bought a 1993 Toyota Previa LE, a car we kept in the family long enough for me to drive for two years. We finally traded it in for the Santy in October, 2004 when it had 177,000 miles on it and was starting to show signs of needing expensive repairs. My mom's personal replacement for the van had two years prior, however, in the form of a brand-new, custom factory order Millennium Silver Metallic 2002 Lexus RX300. We picked it up on April 30, 2002 and it had 12 miles on it at delivery. She chose to stay with the Toyota family because the Previa had been so absolutely bulletproof we figured we couldn't go wrong.
The Lexus now has 107,000 more miles on it and has always been meticulously maintained by the dealer and my dad keeps all the service records. A month or so ago, my mom complained to me that the car was sometimes clunking as she slowed to stop at a light or stop sign. I drove the car and could not duplicate her concern. Cut to yesterday when I drove the car again and it clunked, sometimes violently, at each red light. I called the Lexus dealer and got the car dropped off this morning on short notice. A technician drove the car with me and the car clunked for him, several times in a row. This made me happy as I feared we would get the car back with the 'could not duplicate' excuse.
We just got a call from the dealer and the RX needs a new transmission. Cost? $4,400!

Some reading around Club Lexus shows me that RX transmission failure is not an uncommon issue, sometimes occurring at a scant 51,000 miles. My Santa Fe has 130,000 or so on it and the transmission is still running like a champ. The fact that Lexus is fully aware that this is a common (and expensive) problem and yet refuses to pro-rate or help out out-of-warranty customers is borderline infuriating.
At this point we are not sure if it is worth fixing or not. Mom has had her eye on an Audi A5 as a replacement for the RX and I'm thinking now may be the time to place that order.

Here are the numbers: 2 seats only, 520 hp @ 6500 rpm, 440 lb.-ft. of torque all the way from 3200–5200 rpm, 3615 lbs., 'Ring laps quicker than 7:30, $130,000 MSRP, early 2009.
So the car will lose its back seat and enough other stuff to shed 200 pounds, will get an extra 40 advertised horses, cost almost twice as much as the current model and lap the Nordschleife faster than a Porsche 997 GT2. We had that number as low as 7:25 recently, which is just insane. We're guessing there will be enough people that will wait for this model to hit U.S. shores when it debuts in early 2009, but even more who will think they can duplicate the recipe for far fewer dollars and a regular old GT-R.

Why did they try to sell Saturn, and sell Hummer to the Chinese, but they kill Oldsmobile and Pontiac? Two names with lots of history. Couldn't they retire GMC and re badge the heavy trucks as Chevy's? Like they used to???

Has anyone else noticed that the Kia Rio has started to make some noise in the automotive market? I’ve been working with Kia lately and everyone has been talking about the JD Power award they recently won. It came a shock to me cuz I like Kia cars but its not something from them that I expected. However, it is cool to see a car company working hard on improving their cars and their image for real. Anyone know what I’m talking about and agree with me?

This is the world's most expensive and fastest production car ever made. Dedicated to the
Bugatti Atlantique 57S from the 1930's, with a proven
top speed of over 400 km/h, Sang Noir's most obvious features is an all-black
exterior featuring exposed carbon fibre sections. Sang Noir translates to 'Black Blood' a rather
ominous and foreboding name for your new multi-million dollar
super car. Other features specific to the Sang Noir include new
alloy wheels, aluminium side mirrors and grille surround, black-out headlights and a tan leather
and Alcantara interior. The car boasts 1001hp and got a top speed of 407km/h.

Ford Mustang Glass Roof
The 2009 Ford Glass Roof Mustang provides a third roof option for customers and responds to their growing desire for more natural light. Production of large sunroofs has increased nearly 200 percent in North America since 2003, according to Just-auto. The growth is driven, in part, by consumers' daily commute time. The number of consumers with commutes lasting more than 60 minutes grew by almost 50 percent between 1990 and 2000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The new glass roof will be available as an option on both the V-6 Mustang and Mustang GT beginning next summer.
At $1,995, the new roof provides customers a less expensive option than a convertible, without compromising the coupe's versatility, headroom or climate-controlled environment.
"Mustang is an icon in our product lineup, and we are committed to keeping Mustang news fresh every year," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford's group vice president, Global Product Development. "As the automotive landscape becomes increasingly competitive, features such as a panoramic glass roof will help differentiate our products from the competition."
Nearly one out of every two sports cars sold in America is a Mustang, and it remains the best-selling convertible. The new glass roof addresses the fact that 62 percent of buyers in the sports car segment are interested in a sunroof or moonroof on their next vehicle, according to J.D. Power and Associates research.
Mustang's Glass Roof is made of tinted privacy glass, which reduces both infrared rays and vehicle cool-down time by 50 percent. A manual roller blind is built in, allowing owners to further control exposure on sunny days.
The specially formulated glass also protects interior fabric material from solar radiation deterioration and discoloration by reducing solar light transmittance. To help improve acoustics and Mustang's interior quietness, the glass also features a layer of vinyl that reduces noise, vibration and harshness.
The glass roof Mustang is built like a coupe and has been developed to maintain the structural integrity of Mustang. The glass itself is safety glass, meaning that it shatters without sharp or jagged edges, like other automotive glass.
Glass Roof Mustangs will be assembled at the Automotive Alliance International plant in Flat Rock, Mich. The unique glass is installed at Ford's adjacent vehicle personalization facility.
Like its coupe and convertible counterparts, the Glass Roof Mustang has endured a battery of tests measuring quality and craftsmanship.
During the development phase, production-level prototypes ran through a rigorous prove-out, including various water, air leakage, durability, squeak and rattle and vehicle dynamics tests. Top quality drives the development team - as evidenced by Mustang's first-in-its segment ranking in the 2007 J.D. Power and Associates IQS, VDS and APEAL studies.
"Quality is a continuous process. The whole team is passionate about it, which results in our paying attention to the smallest details," says Paul Randle, chief nameplate engineer. "Our owners have high expectations, and we always want to meet them - with strong features like this new roof option, quality and performance."

car you've ever owned? For me it was a very satanic 1990 Dodge Grand Caravan. In the first 25k, it had major engine and transmission problems. Within 4 yrs, almost anything you can imagine went bad on it including the paint. That was my first domestic car in many years and my last since.

Nissan refuses to replace GT-R owner's busted transmission
A member of the North American GT-R Owner's Club forums started a thread recently in which he tells about dropping off his Nissan GT-R at the dealership when he began hearing loud noises coming from the rear of the car. The dealership told him that his transmission was toast as a direct result of him turning off the car's VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) too much, which you have to do in order to use the Launch Control function. The cost to repair the tranny is $20,000 and Nissan won't cover it under warranty since the GT-R owner's manual states that damage to the transmission is not covered if it is proven to be the result of using Launch Control with the VDC turned off. In fact, the manual states that the only reason you should turn off VDC is for when you're rocking the vehicle because it's stuck in mud or snow. That's kind of like Nissan saying you should never use the Launch Control function despite the fact it's there.

Anybody check out the new 2010 Kia Forte Coupe?? Just saw one today at local Kia dealer. Nice car.Hyundai needs a similar
2 door coupe.Problem is my buddy owns this dealership,he was not happy when I bought my 3 dr hatch Accent, but I
don't need 4 doors and the Accent is much better looking than the Rio. :whistling:By the way..sticker price was $24400,
kinda pricey considering you can get a base Genisis Coupe for a couple grand more !

Just wanted to share a picture of my new toy! I hate to call it an impulse buy but that is what is was. I had been thinking about buying a Mazda Miata or a Honda S2000 for a few months now. I would peruse Craiglist and auto trader from time to time but never felt too serious about it. Then friday night late I spot a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata on Craigslist at a local BMW dealership. For those of you that do not know, the Mazdaspeed Miata was only made for two years and it comes with a factory turbo and other sport inspired extras. Anyway long story short, I was at the dealership by 9:00 AM and was driving home by 11:00 AM. The car is very clean with 43,600 miles and I picked it up for $10,000. My check book is a little lighter but I do have smile on my face.
