Hello, everyone!
I have a 94 Excel that suddenly started making a squeeling/pinging type sound when idling or beginning to accelerate, sounds like the right frontend, but it stops after either applying ALB or accelerating past 20 or so mph.
What does this mean?
Thanks in advance!

my son had damaged the front left wishbone and pulled the drive shaft out of its housing. I had started the necessary repairs to the front end and it wasnt until I pulled the dust boot off the gearbox that I noticed that the housing was damaged (probably beyond repair) and wondered just what sort of a problem this has caused and whether it is easily repaired or not.

Can anyone tell me where I can locate the connector for the crank angle sensor on my '91 Excel. I have looked in the online manual at HMASERVICE.COM which shows a square connector located somewhere near the disitributor, I cannot find a corresponding connector in my engine bay. A photo or clear diagram would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys I have a 1991 Excel 4 speed manual. For some reason the clutch on my vehicle will not release. I depress the clutch pedal but the clutch stays engaged. The master and slave cylinders appear to be working OK. The slave cylinder is moving the clutch release arm is being moved however I am not sure if it is moving enough. I measured the movement and it is only about 15mm of movement when the clutch pedal is depressed (see attached picture). I have not come across this problem before and am flying blind. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem as I do not want to remove the transmission if I don't have to. Thankyou in advance form your help.

Hello, I need some help please. Is there anything like a sports or simply better suspension parts for a 1994 excel?
I've heard that Mitsubishi Colt parts can be used in an X2, but I really don't know if that's true...
Thanks.

My 89 excel starts and runs great on normal days but when the temperature drops below -15c it just will not start . I try pumping gas before, during, after but it doesn't seem to be getting the gas very well. It does not flood (no smell) but as soon as it warms up it starts right away. It has a block heater but that doesn't seem to make any difference so I don't know if it works. The battery is old so it runs down quick> any suggestions would be appreciated THANKS GARY

What are some simple, free ways to add some horsepower to my '92 Excel GX and what are some ways that will cost money? (Prices maybe if you know?) I would really like to know some free ways though, I just want to add about 5 to 10 more HP to it, then save up and buy one of those 4g63t engines.

My car is a 1994 Excel GL 4 door. The high pressure line is right up on the top right. As far as I know you can NOT recharge the A/C using the high pressure line. However, I have followed every single AC line in the engine bay and as far as i know there is NO low pressure line at all. Am I crazy, or just missing something? Is is possible to recharge using the high pressure line?

I wish to learn how to service my Hyundai Excel 1989 1.5 GL Hatchback, speically how to change oil filter? The Oil filter is not visible from the bonnet.
I bought the car 3 months ago. I change the oil from a mechanic and it is black within hours. I want to change oil and its filter within a week for next 3 weeks to make the engine clean. It hurts to see the tar black oil

The car is lovely and the engine exhaust still give the water out which shows that the engine is in a good condition. I wish to rectify the problem before it is too late as the tar black oil can certainly hurt the engine.

I have a 1991 Excel. It's been running and starting fine until I drove it to work the other day. After sitting for nine hours it refused to start. It cranked and cranked, but acted like it wasn't getting fuel. I had it towed home and have done the following: Checked the fuel filter. Am getting a good fuel supply through the filter. Also am getting fuel through the end of the pipe that feeds the injectors. But, when I checked the plugs they are dry. So, the injectors are definately not working.
I would like to check the injector temperature sensor, but don't know where it is located or how to check it.
I have replaced the distributor cap and rotor. Am getting good spark from the coil and to each of the plugs.
I would greatly appreciate any help I could get locating the Temperature Sensor and testing instructions.
Thanks to anyone that can help!
Terry

I am not totally sure what happened, but one of my main fuses located by the battery blew and i replaced, but then the car started over heating. My father and I replaced the radiator, we thought it was clogged up, it was rusting out, and just cleaning it would cost more than a new one! After that was replaced we looked at the radiator fan and it was all melted. We just put a new one on, but the connectors were fried from the other, and whenever we hook the new fan to the temp. sensor the fan never kicks on. When u loop it, the fan kicks on even with the key off. Is there anyway we could wire it so it'll always come on when the key is on?
Also i think the temp sensor is fried to, because the fan never kicks on when the car starts to warm up.

hey all,
having a few problems with the car. when traveling at speed, 100k/h, or even lower the car starts to lag and loose power but the right it self again.
before i started driving the car it was my brother he took it to the mechanics and he said that it was lossing compression in the 4th cyclinder but couldn't figure out why it was happening.
im about to go and change all spark plugs, incase some are fouled, and the same with the coil packs. the fuel filter is new but i will replace that to be sure. injecter cleaner has been run through the system, but i have new injectors lined up if need be.
im about to go out and replace all the minor stuff now, but im not that confident that it will fix the problem. so if anyone has any idea as to why the car is doing what its doing and what involved in correcting the problem i will be very greatful.
thanks all

I have a 98 Excel. I find the headlights to be not bright enough. I live out in the sticks where at night it is pitch black. I find the headlights aren't really bright enough. Is it ok to replace the 55w bulbs with 90/100w bulbs? Has anyone here tried it? Any adverse effects like components melting or anything?
I've investigated the idea of putting "fog" lights in the air dams in the front bumper, but when a mechanic looked under there he said there was place to screw the lights in, and he would have to build some metal rack to hold it in, and so on, and it would be very expensive - is this actually true?

My daughter has a 1993 excel 1500cc motor. when cold it seems to suffer from an engine rattle for a few minutes until it warms up. Then no noise except tappets, they need adjusting.
The engine runs well and does not use oil 160k on the clock
Is it common for these engines to suffer from this problem(I assume piston slap as it dissappears when hot)??
Is there a recommended oil viscosity for this problem??
Any help would be great

Hello - wonderful to have a Hyundai forum!
I bought my Excel new in 1990 and have followed the
maintenance schedule. But now problems are
cropping up, not the least of which is sudden and
unpredictable death.
It's fuel injected, an automatic and has had the
timing belt and fuel pump replaced. It's also had
a valve job (great mileage after that!).
Things I've done trying to solve this problem:
New Hyundai ignition coil, ignition wire set (coil to
distributor cap and distributor cap to spark plugs)
and distributor cap. New rotor. Checked fuel
pump by attempting to start by squirting starting
firectly into fuel horn (did not fire at all).
Here's the scarey part: after replacing the ignition
coil it started right up then ran for about two weeks;
I thought I'd fixed the plroblem. But then it died on
the way to work with no warning, just like before.
That's when I replaced the distributor cap. It then
started right up and ran for about a week, then
died again suddenly.
Now it won't start at all and is sitting in my garage,
cold and lonely.
Any ideas? Besides junking it, I mean; I've taken
good care of this baby and it doesn't even have any
rust on it and I live in a state that still salts the roads
when it snows.
Needless to say, help is appreciated.
-- Jerry

Hi All,
Recently I bought used Excel 1.5 Model:1995 GLS and I am facing a problem with high fuel consumption as in 40 liters I make barely 300 KM (in 10.5 Galons it makes 186 miles)
Please advise if this is in the normal range of fuel consumption and if not what I could do as I didn't make its service yet so that I can take care of this ..
Thx,

Hi,
I have a 1990 Hyundai Excel 1.5L.
It suffered from severe acceleration hesitation (ie. it bunny hops down the road) in 1st and 2nd gear and especially when cold. When at running temperature, it still does it a tiny bit but no where near as much as when cold. I have replaced spark plugs and checked the ignition timing but it still does it.
If you advance ignition timing more than it is supposed to go, to the point where it pings a bit, the problem goes.
I would like to run a ECU diagnostic but apparently on Hyundai cars, you need a special unit that plugs in which is expensive.
At the moment, I'm thinking that it might be an engine sensor stuffed up sending wrong messages to the ECU but I'm not 100%
Anyone had this problem or got any ideas?

[attachmentid=2012]

hello ., and thank you, thank you , thank you... *bows*
My names Jon, and at the moment im unfortunate to have found myself buying a 2nd hand 1994 Hyundai Excel Sports model 1.5 FWD Burgandy Piece of Sh*t! !!! from a 2nd hand yard.... WITH around 280 thou on the odometer with a new radiator, good working battery, electrical system, good exterior, mediocre interior, half-worn clutch, noisy valves.
MOVING ALONG!!!
I have noticed since buying it that Whenever it wants to , the engine light comes on and the engine fights to stay alive, throwing itself into high acceleration/ lo acceleration / hi acceleration / lo acceleration... and perhaps then comes good after its *INTERNAL* struggle of *EVIL* and you can then continue on driving it as usual.... however, there are 2 factors ive noticed in this ONSET OF EVIL.
1. Check engine light comes on , you have roughly 5-10 seconds to maintain a speed and not depress the accelerator to ASK FOR MORE POWER in that time frame..
If you do, It does the what i say should be named "PRESS THE PAUSE BUTTON" -to the vehicle(engine)
2. It mainly does it when you first start it "now a days", and once shes at 1/3 operating temperature, you wouldnt think it had problems at all. HOWEVER- it has done it in all conditions but just more often when the engines COLDER than not.
Im no mechanical genius, however i do have an apt for engines, BUT THIS ONE has got me stumped, it also has a problem involving trying to turn over "WITH FULL FORCE AS IT SHOULD" but not actually TURNING OVER AT ALL , causing nothing but battery wastage and a delay in schedule..
It done it to me today, it does it to me every day it likes, pretty much every 2nd or 3rd day it wont start when i ask of it to - but starts later after a few attempts and wasted time.
AS I SAID, im no genius but i`m thinking something along the lines of FUEL FILTER CLOGGAGE, incorrect spark plug gap's , potentially half seized motor, or air mixture ratio's are wrong...
any help is much needed, thank y`all , (By the way- im going to get it looked at first thing next week, but thats a few days away, and i just know im gonna get slugged big time)

Hi, this is my first post so......
Anyway, i have got an excel X2 which my dad gave me which he had since new. It has a switch on the clutch pedal which must be pressed in order to start it, but sometimes when the switch is pressed, all that is heard is a click. Sometimes this only happens once, sometimes it doesn't happen and sometimes it happes 5-6 times before the car turnsover.
The car runs normally otherwise. I asked a mechanic once what it was and he told me that my car has some sort of self-reseting circuit breaker which is connected to the ECU or something to protect it from power surges and that if i can find it and replace it with an in-line fuse, this will fix the problem
If anyone has had the same problem, or knows where this circuit breaker is, please help.
