I found some really nice 13" 5 star rims online and supposedly they fit perfectly on a '94 Hyundai Excel. The tire size on a 1994 Hyundai Excel CX is "P 185 / 80 R 13".
Now there is some information on those rims I found and I'm not exactly sure what this information means. Can anybody help me out here?
Size: 13x5.5
Backside Spacing (in/mm): 4.625/117
Offset: 35mm
Under the heading "Size" I realize the "13" indicates the number of inches, but what does the "5.5" represent? (Width of the rim, possibly?)
And what is "Backside Spacing" and "Offset" mean? Do those numbers I've listed coincide with the 1994 Hyundai Excel CX's specs? If anybody can help out (in plain English) please let me know as I'm considering on buying those rims.
Thanks people.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have already had great luck searching the posts. I have a quick question that maybe someone can easily answer.
I have a 1987 Excel. I changed the thermostat about a year ago with no problems. Okay - my boyfriend did it but I watched and held stuff. ;-)
Anyway, in the last week the car has occasionally been overheating. It has enough coolant but I think there might be air in the line. Is there a bleed valve somewhere? I'm sure my boyfriend would appreciate any suggestions!
THANKS!

The rear left window won't go up, and the exhaust pipe is broken off between the muffler and the engine.

I really don't have very much money right now, and want to fix these myself.
1. What would be wrong with my window, and how do I fix it?
2. What in the world should I do about reattaching the pipe? It seems to have just rusted/corroded until it broke off. The sound isn't that bad suprisingly, but I know it's not going to pass inspections like that, and when I roll down either of the front windows the car gets filled with fumes.

Hello everyone. I want to replace the dashboard on my 1994 Excel GLS, but it has been hard to find an exact replacement for it, so I was wondering if there's any other Hyundai model or maybe Mitsubishi, that can be used to be as a dashboard donor.
Additionally, I need some help and tips to get the job done, because I've never tried that before.
Sorry about my misspelling and grammar, i'm still learning.
Thanks in advance.

Is there anyway to pull the CEL codes without a 200 doller scanner. I know on some older sytems jumping two terminals would trigger the light to flash the codes? Anyone got a tip?

Hi
My 1990 Excel just started to give me this problem of shutting down at any given time either at idle or highway driving. Put it in netural & it will start right back up as nothing happened & run fine. It started to do it once every half hour but now it might do it every five or ten minutes. Plugs & wires, rotor & cap, fuel filter have all been replaced. Sounds like something electric, do you think that it might be a bad ECU ?

Hi i added freon to my Hyundai E

xcel (do it yourself can w/ guage)but noticed my clutch on my a/c compressor was not turning..all my fans worked, though. I could manually turn the compressor clutch by hand, so I knew it was no seized..I found that the culprit was a bad low pressure clutch switch for the a/c...I replaced it..still blowing warm..any ideas? guage on a/c can said my freon was full...??? I am wondering if I still did not put enough freon in because today I added some more freon and the clutch kicked in and started working on the a/c ..I am afraid to add more..sems like its LOW, although gAUGE on can says its full, although this is a CONVERTED A/c system from R-12 to R-134..any help, MUCH appreciated..SOS!!

FINIALLY fixed..low on freon..was reading the gauge wrong

Hello everyone...
First post, I have a 92 Excel I just picked up mostly as a daily driver just found out it has the Mitsubishi Motor in it (which i'm told is because it says "ECI MULTI" on it.
Anyway, i'm in Ontario Canada, and I cannot pass local emissions.
HC and CO were VERY low, however NOx were off the chart. 638 allowed, 1850ppm result.
Any ideas?

Hi all -
I've just bought a 98 Excel Sprint X3 (110,000 km), and I'm having trouble with it. It's jerking along, feels sort of like being hit in the rear with strong gusts of wind, or as if the engine's very briefly and intermittently cutting out. It does it in all gears and at all speeds, but seems worst going up- or down-hill, or when accelerating. The car's also using a wee bit more fuel than I'd have expected for one that size - if that might be relevant. I'm using regular unleaded (plain-vanilla Australian - dunno what rating).
I've had the car checked out both by the used-car dealer (who seems _relatively_ decent) and by a vehicle testing centre. They say the HT leads and spark-plugs are okay, and can't find a problem.
I don't know much about cars (as may be apparent), and have only been driving a couple of years, but I don't _think_ it's just my changing gears ineptly - if I'm cruising along at 60 - 70 kph in 4th it shouldn't be bunny-hopping, should it?
I'd appreciate any advice on what to do, or where to point the mechanic.
Thanks,
G.

Ok, my gas gauge goes to FULL when I fill up, but after about 60-70 miles, it's on EMPTY. It'll fluctuate like go to E, then back up, but eventually fall to E and just stay there. I'm assuming I have a bad sending unit. Where is it located (in the tank I'm assuming) and how do I replace it? Is there an access panel under the back seat, or do I need to drop the tank?

Hay!
I have some problems with my sweet Excel. Since when start here ( Im living in Poland, Central Europe) winter my Excel doesn't want to start on the morning. Usually started imediatly but now, i can keep starter and I do not hearing any signal that he would start. I already changed spark plug for NGK v-line, air filter, gas filter.
When the engine is hot I do not have any dificulties with starting engine. He works perfect. Mayby it can be a gas pomp? It is my first time when it happen. Also what I noticed, when I driving on my last gear with the spead around 80~90km/h and pull gas pedal to the desk Im hearing a wird noise. That noise is from a engine. It is metalic sound. It is a dificult for me to discribe that sound but is strange.
Does any one know how to make my excel like was before?

Hi there,
In my 1993 Excel, when I push down on the brakes, the "Check Engine" light comes on.
Same goes when signaling.
The Engine shutters a little bit but it can go for days without doing it, but then it can do it another day?
I've checked all the fuses etc.
Is this a computer problem or earthing problem. Will I be able to fix it myself?
Send me an email: radiorobbie@gmail.com

Hello - My story is an expensive one. I have a 90 excel 1.5L, I had it in the shop last week, Jan 07. I bought this car for 250.00. Safety First: new tires, exhaust, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil change and filter; then the tranny (4 speed) went out. Replaced it and the clutch.
Now the engine light blinks on and off, generally when down shifting or sitting at a stoplight. The shop diagnosed it as being the idle speed sensor. The part cost 158.00 so on top of the 95.00 plus the 200.00 to replace a "valve shaft" I did not have this part replaced.
I have also had similar symptoms described by other members such as:
#1 high idle = the idle speed sensor is bad?
#2 when the weather is warm (60+degrees) and swampy or humid the vehicle will run normal as long as I don't have to slow down (ex: highway driving to an off ramp). Once I start the downshift process I might as well pull over and wait a few minutes. I am able to restart and as long as I keep the RMPs up through shifting it will go. If I have to slowdown again, I have to start over. It will not accelerate.
I am understanding this issue is caused by the Engine coolant temp sensor (which is not related to the gauges, right?)
Looking for confirmation, 2nd or 3rd opinions....
FYI: When I had the car in the shop they also said that there was an open code on the cat converter, which they could not replace because the guy that installed my exhaust system welded the thing together.

I recently purchased a 1986 Hyundai Excel. Manual transmission 4 door hatchback. The old owner said that the car battery had been going flat, but when i got it it ran fine. I drove it last night around to a mates house without a hitch. BUT 5 hours later when i went to drive home, we had to bump start it to get it going. After charging the battery for an hour today, i decided that the battery was dead and that it probably just needed a new one. HOWEVER, being over cautious as it is an old car, i decided to check the charge rate before spending $$$ on a new battery. We tried to bump start the car again to do this check. It did catch but only for a few seconds. after two attempts i decided, **** with it, ill just bite the bullet and buy a new battery. Upon installing the new battery and trying to start the car, NOTHING HAPPENS!!! I measured the voltage on the battery and it does look as tho the starter is trying to turn as the voltage drops from 12.5 down to about 12v. But the engine does not turn. WHATS MORE, the car now rolls easily nomatter what gear it is in... even with the clutch out.
Now after much thinking and deliberation(Not to mention swearing). Im wondering if the starter has simply siezed or become stuck, due to trying to bump it. And also that the clutch plate/bearing has also become stuck in neutral... Im hoping that it reengages upon the engine turning again, centrifugal and all that... ????
Any imput anyone can give no matter how insignificant will be greatly appreciated.
Im really hoping not to have to pull the whole thing apart... !!!
Please help... Thanks in advance.

I am trying to replace a ball joint on the passenger side of the car. I can't loosen the bolt holding the ball joint. There is not enough room to get a socket in and the open-ended wrench just slips off. Is there a special tool or something that I am missing to do this job. Hello everyone!
This is my first post so hopefully you can help me out a bit. I recently bought my 92 excel and there wasn't a radio in it. Went to walmart and bought a tapedeck so i wouldn't have to listen to the sound of wind for hours on end. To make a long story short the tape deck has power (lights up) but there isn't any sound coming from any of the speakers. I have double checked the wires that i have connected and everything seems to be in order but still no sound. Its not a fuse cause i have power ...... needless to say i'm a little stumped.
Second question is the car (while at idle) revs up. it isn't a constantly high rev it is as if you are feathing the gas and the rpm's go up and down. It isn't random its almost as if the engine is keeping time. its very rhythmic.
any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

I was driving home from my friends house and I want over a small hill and the car started to pull to the right and I lost control of the car and hit a stone wall. I pulled the car over the theleft side of the road and the car fliped onto the roof and somehow landed on all four tires (I still don't understand how). No one can believe that I got out of the car by myself and everyone said that if I didn't have my seat belt on I would most likely be dead. If there would have been anyone in the back seat they would have been dead. I am lucky that all I got was some scratches, a big bump on my head and three staples in my head. I have learned my leason(don't take stupid riskes and always wear a seat belt). I think someone was watching me. I don't know if it was my great grandfather or my grandmother but someone was there.
I would also like to say THANKS for the help with all my car problems and questions. This site is so helpful and without it, I would be lost And I don't mean this as insult to Hyundai but ,I think I am done with Hyundais or at least for a while.
I might send one more post of my car pictures.
And again Thanks.

Hey guys.
I am stumped over this one but here is my problem. I have a 93 excel sprint and 3 speed auto. When ever the car the feels like automatically revs to about 3000rpm. As soon as the accelerater is touched the engine dies and and when your foot is taken off the throttle it returns to about 3000rpm. It stays like this for about half a minute on average. Then will return to normal operation and driving. The car does it hot or cold but generally at lower speeds or waiting at lights. The car will self drive itself when it is free revving and in gear but as you can imagine as soon as you want to accelerate it dies.
Any suggestions. Thanks heaps

I just picked up a 1992 Excel with 85,700 miles. Stock everything but the radio. I need to replace the washer fluid pump and the dashboard light. Other than that, I'm looking for some cheap & easy performance upgrades and where to get them. I'm really only interested in stuff that will boost the HP & torgue without doing much damage to the gas mileage. I know putting a better air filter is a start, but what else?
Thanks for the help!

I note this is a somewhat common problem - I lost the code to the philips stereo in my 2000 Excel and when I replaced the battery recently I lost all radio/cd. The local dealer is asking for a substantial payment to remedy the pproblem. Is there a web site I can access for the code. I tried pressing #4 button when turning the key on but did not work. The serial number on the stereo is PH604CY0180380. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
