Hello,
I am new here and just recently picked up a 94 Excel GS for my son. Could someone point me to some information about how to verify the tachometer is connected? It currently does not work at all. Also, the check engine light is on. Could it be related?
Any help would be appreciated. The Chilton's manual does not show how the tachometer should be connected. I believe it is the factory tachometer.
Thanks,
Jason

Hi there folks, I need help from the experts - out of ideas.
I removed the engine from my hyundai excel ls 91 model (if you're wondering its a 4 door hatchback, 1.5l Auto)
I changed the pistons on it, assembled engine back together into car.
connected looms back together - all hoses - etc
Problem analysis:
1. fuel rail has built up pressure in it - that means im gettin fuel
2. injectors works - tested it with a test light and also it sprays out a mist
3. there is one small wire clip behind the engine on the right side of the manifold (towards the back of the fuel rail) which i cannot seem to find a spot where it connects to. (im not sure if its one grounding wire that im missing out)
4. checked timing and compression by spraying in some degreaser into airfilter - enginer cranks a few times then stops.
5. sparkie have good healthy sparks (as i have been zapped while testing)

If i missed out on listing any other details do let me know, really appreaciate any help i would get!
cheeers folks...

I have a 93 Hyundai Excel ( Carby variant). The vehicle recently underwent a piston rings and seal replacement. The vehicle ran well for a month or so but now, I'm experiencing acceleration problem when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. I can experience a minor jerk when shifting gears and it now takes 4000 rpms as compared to the usual 2500 rpms to shift gears. It's a four speed manual. What could be the problem? I'm in Pakistan.

Hi,
Looking for a 94-00 Hyundai excel front bumper.
Good for someone who has upgraded and got a bodykit and doesn't need the front bumper any more (which you won't).
Will pay good $$$$$$$$. But no more than what the wreckers charge.
Call Lachie on 9887 5886 if no-one is there LEAVE A MESSAGE with your PHONE NUMBER.
Thanks
Bumpers vary a bit, don't mind which type.

Hi everyone,
I am new to this group so bear me with any mistakes I. I own a 1993 Hyundai Excel and I would
like to know what foglamps would best fit in the front bumper. I was considering the Scoupe foglamps
and the oval foglamps which come with the Getz.

my 1994 x2 excel has the efi 1.5l engine in it and it is rather noisy, i've adjusted the valves to spec and am running a genuine oil filter.
the oil level is spot on and i cannot think of anything else that would make the rattle-ish type noise i am hearing.
i realise that this engine is a bit old and tired but if i can reduce these noises i'd be over the moon
thanks for any help

Hi All,
I would appreciate some advice on a few engine issues.
My excel has a slow coolant leak and also blows a cloud of smoke when starting up.
The smoke is a light colour (hard to say if it has a blue tinge). I have been told that this may be due to worn valve seals.
The coolant leak is a slow drip that seems to come from the water pump. It's hard to be sure of the source though.
My question's at the moment are:
How much time would need to be set aside to investigate and fix these problems?
I change my oil, filters and sparkplugs, but have little experience beyond that.
So far I have read basic articles on water pump removal and valve seal replacement and it seems like it would be quite involved.
Can these repairs be easier than I think it is?
Thanks for reading.
Cheers
Huss

Hello all you car gurus.
I currently own a 1992 Hyundai Excel 2 door hatch back.
I've currently re-conditioned the engine, replaced the valves which were bent and busted during a cam-belt snapping moment.
Replaced the master and slave clutch.
Replaced the old spart plugs.
Replaced the Suspenscion.
Replaced the Master and Slave Clutch Cylinders.
Replaced the Oil Filter.
Replaced the Air intake, Fuel filter.
And now well.
I've got that itch to do something to this small car, probably to just for **** and giggles to turn this small car into a sleeper.
Only thing is, after all the work, Im not sure whats compatible with the thing. Sure its an old car, but looking under the hood its clear, there a bit of room to probably tinker or replace the stock parts with something better. She currently has a second hand 4 speed gear box. Four forwards, one reverse. So yeah.
Im going to ask this once.
Can someone help me figure out how to find out which parts can be compatible when looking for a -
: New Engine <Something to make this car with a bit of kick, more than the standard stock.
: Gear box <Something thats bigger than 4 gears, currently she sits at 85 - 90kmph and its hard to get any faster struggles at 100 - 105 kmph
: Brakes <duh>
: Clutch <ditto>
Yeah pretty much you get the drift. So what would I need to look for to find compatible and decent parts for this car. Sure she's a bit of a bomb, but I need something to keep myself busy for part of this year. Its a project. Anyways.
Thanks for readin.

I have a base version 1994 Excel. The problem is that the automatic transmission has went out of it. I took it apart, the clutches are fried, and the sensor wires have all been spliced by someone that has been in there before. Overall, I need a new tranny as this one would be way to expensive to try to rebuild.
The dilemma that I am dealing with, is that I can not find a transmission anywhere.
Does anyone know of any other transmissions that will bolt up to the stock engine? It can be from any kind of car, I don't care if it's a freaking Mini. It just has to be an automatic, and work. If I can't find a transmission, this thing is going to the scrap yard. It was my first car, and yes, I know that it's no power horse, or Ferrari, but it has sentimental value to me.
Thank you to anyone that can help out.
Jessie

As a matter of interest to all my engine has a broken exhaust valve rocker shaft, I do not think I have ever seen this before and now I know why the engine has a major blow out.
I looked at the shaft thinking it may be a broken valve spring and noticed the bolt holding down the shaft at No. 4 had lifted and the shaft has snapped, so its off the the auto wreckers for a replacement, I have renewed all the electrics so it has a good spark and had it running on two cylinders before investigating further.
Trusting this is useful information and I did hear a ticking but I assumed it was a worn lifter and I did not investigate further, so a tick tick may require a check and re-torque of the rocker shaft bolts

Hello to all. My name is Rich and I have a 93 excel that has only 24,000 miles and the car as you can guess is like new. Now, Late last year my daughter was drining it when suddenly it began to shake and knock and shut off. It would still start but would shake and knock wildly. Anyway I had it towed to my local mechanic and found that one of the rocker arm shafts had broken. He said it was common with these engines and that they are considered thrugh away motors. So finally He replaced both shafts and the car ran fine although a little noisy from my guess an inproper valve lash adjustment. I say inproper because just a few weeks later the car broke down again the same way as the first and so I decided to have a go at it myself. I took of the valve cover and what do I see, The rocker shaft for the exhaust side is broken in half. I would like to salvage this little car because of the milage and when it is running it is really great on gas and is good and tight just like a new car. when I took the shaft off I di notice that the shaft he replaced on the intake side seems to have been put in backwards because the bolt holes are off center and the valve adjusting screws are not centered on the valve stems. MY question is , Could this idiot have cased this to happen a second time or is this a problem with these motors?.....................Rich

I have a 91 excel I just got and it sat for 4 years before I got it.
the previous owner drained the gas tank and added 5 gallons of gas to rinse and drained that off also. Then He replaced the rear fuel filter ( or put a in line one back there any way). He changed the plugs and cap and rotor.
I changed the fuel filter that is under the hood.
I can get it to start and it runs for about 10 to 20 seconds and then the "CHECK ENGINE" light comes on and it starts sputtering and coughing and dies and is very hard to start after that. also if I get on the accelerator right away and get the rpm's up it will stay running a little bit longer but does the same thing check engine light comes on and it dies.
where do I start trouble shooting with this thing???
thanks for any help!

well this pos car is having another problem. The window decided to come off its track today and it's -50 with the wind chill. Now i've removed the two screws holding the armrest/handle in place, and i've detached all the clips from the panel, and it's ready to come off - but the window lever and door handle are stopping me from removing it entirely.
I've searched and searched and i've come across a few explanations on how but none of them have worked. One post said to remove the screws on the handle but there are no screws! It's either glued or clipped into place and i can't pry at it any harder or else i'll risk breaking it.
I've already removed the panel from the lock as well, so the only thing keeping it on is the handle and window lever. How do i get passed this?
(Also, when i bought the car i was told it was a '94 but when i registered it the insurance company had the VN has a 91, so i'm not entirely sure on which year it actually is)

Hey guys new to the forum.
I have just bought a 1995 Hyundai excel for the missus to drive around ( cheap car ) Its done 150 thousand kays and is running smooth.
My only problem is its terrible on fuel! My ford ba falcon gets better kays when you do the maths. It does about 280 kays around town and 350 on the high way.
I wanted to know is there any problems i should look for?
Also what mods can you do to these cars??? For example with my Ford ba i have 2 CAI's and bigger ones then the stoke CAI ect. Is there any mods like this that will get me better fuel economy?
Cheers guys!

HI. So I've only recently found out some information regarding regular gas and its general effectiveness compared to premium. Until about a few hours ago I thought regular gas was always less efficient and generally detrimental to your engine's health. Now I realize this is almost never the case as most engines are made to run with regular, effectively making the only difference between using it and premium on said engines a smaller hole in your wallet. I admit I'm new to a lot of this car stuff, so that just blows my mind.
So, basically I want to know what the required octane level for this car is. I'm almost certain it'll run just fine on regular (around 87 I think?), but I only just bought it a year ago and obviously I don't have the car's manual. Also, the engine was recently overhauled. Would this affect in any way?
Thanks!

This is a little bit of a NOOB question but my girlfriend drives a Excel X3 98 and lately there is a very loud ticking noise (lifters im guessing) you can hear it when shes driving day-to-day but the other day we had some really hot weather and the ticking noise was really bad I could hear her car from a mile away as she was coming to my house. Wondering what sort of engine oil is recommended. Also if any one else had this sort of experience and what they have done or oil they have used that has made well of this problem. All replyz appreciated. If anyone could help out soon Ill go out and buy the oil today as its needed urgently.

Hi, my 1991 excel was revving out of control back and forth and using gas like a tanker, I used to get about 480 miles to the tank and now get about 153 miles to a tank, then I noticed my motor position sensor had shattered and broken off and was just laying there when I lifted the hood. What does this part do please? and could this be the reason the car is revving up and down, like it's breathing and getting such terrible gas mileage, I've replaced most all of the other sensors and a vaccuum hose and nothing else appears to be wrong. Thank you very much for your response, I'm hoping when I replace this part, all will be well, I've replaced the idle sensor and throttle sensor.

Hello.
I have a Hyundai Excel X3 ,1997-98 i think. It has 300,000km on it and its getting a bit slugish. I recently heard that the 4G63 will go into an Excel. And it hit me. I need a new powerplant.

I also heard that it requires mods. Dont know how true that info is. I want to put something in it that has a reasonable amount of power, but i want to avoid mods. I just want a new engine that will drop straight in. Any ideas for a motor that meets that description? Or can i get performance parts to trick out the original motor, without it detonating after a week. Lol.
Here is a similar/same model that i found on the net.

I noticed that there seem to be a few different grill variations out there. For the Exel X2 (1989–94) over @
AutoMotix.com (link goes directly into the "body parts" page where the following images came from)

The first two on the left dont seem to be exactly right to fit my application. But, the third looks like it might fit with little or no modification. And I believe that the last one (all the way to the right) is the same as the one currently installed in my veicle sans Hyundai emblum.
I need some clarification on if these are all interchangeable. And if not, what modifications (if any) are required to make them work for a '93 Excel. The third looks the best and is what I am interested in at this time.

Thanks in advance.
