is anyone here running an Greddy Emanage as engine management for their cars?
running turbo's, SC's or things like cams??
i've heard some conflicting stories about them. some say that they dont work at all with hyundai sensors, and the facotry ECU can over time ignore the changes that the piggy back makes.
others say they are fine.
opinions?

SITUATION: I bought a 2000 Sonata with pretty low miles, and it reads hot as if it overheats.
The coolant was full of rust and looked like watered down mud. I had the radiator flushed and replaced the thermostat which was as stuck and rusted as they get.
Still runs hot.
I had it checked out and a mechanic told me the head gasket needed to be replaced. A second mech. did some sort of compression test using some gas? and said the head gasket was fine, no leaks.
I checked it over top to bottom best as I know how and even had a mechanic friend look it over. Nothing solid.
SYMPTOMS: The car runs great but the temp guage reads hot, and occasionally the heat wont work. I have driven it about 400 miles in its current condition and nothing seems to have gotten any worse.
The lower radiator hose doesn't get very hot and barely holds coolant running or not, overheating or not. The guage reads hot after driving over 40mph, but is fine until then. The temps I have gotten don't seem excessive, but are confusing. I have a Fluke IR Thermmometer and shot the externals of the following parts and here are the temp I have gotten:
Engine warm while temp guage read normal / while reading close to red
- Lower Radiator Hose = 75*F / 90*F
- Upper Radiator Hose = 90*F / 185*F
- Engine Block = 180*F / 210*F
We have also checked the pressure of the cooling system, the oil and 3 of 6 cylinders for signs of coolant mixing, all nothing? The car can be reading hot, and if I turn it off and back on, the guage will only be at the halfway mark, instantly it drops to that.
DILEMMA: I don't know what to do? Is it possible that I could have a head gasket leak and drive 400 miles, 250 of which were in a straight trip, and have no other noticeable problems?
I'd appreciate any insight and have probably left out some details so let me know if there are any further questions. Thanks
Is the intermittent heater related?

so i ask the question.
what's better to get.
SAFC-II or Powerchip ?
the powerchip boasts for the LC2 a 12kw increase for 98ron fuels from a remap, plug and play. $700
Powerchip
the SAFC-II (unknown gains??) but needs to be wired into the ECU and from what i read here is useless as the ECU adapts to the changes.
$ cost of SAFC & cost of install and tune.
opinions anyone?

I was thinking about adding a cold air intake or new exhaust system to my 2003 Elantra GT. I have heard from some people that doing this can cause a lot of problems with the car and it's not worth it. So I was wondering from those of you who have done this if it is worth it to do either or both of these things in terms of price and performance.
Also, anyone have any suggestions on where to buy these things?

Ok looking at getting a header for my car and since it only comes with 1 O2 sensor I figured I'd go non-Cat. So how do I go about removing the second O2 sensor without getting error codes? Is ther a way to trick the ECU?

i apologize for cluddering up the forums with my stupid questions.
so has anyone tried it?
the evo engine has one of the most similar engine set-ups to Hyundai.
and i wouldn't complain for 271 horses in an accent.

Hello,
I have a 99 Accent, 1.5L manual transmission.
My check engine light came on a while back, I scanned it, and i then changed, as stated, the read O2 sensor. It came on again about 3 weeks later - I have yet to scan it again.
On that note, I notice once in a while the parking brake, and battery lights light up at the same time, not fully - just dim, for short intervals. The old owner changed the alternator for a small crappy one just before I bought it.
Also, any way to get my remote lock to work? the battery is good, but the car does nothing when i press it.
Finally, every time I turn off my car, a beeping noise goes off - 3 beeps a number of times. This also occured to me today, during driving, and the radio and ventilation lost power at the same time 9for aobut 30 mins)
Thank you so much

There are two things that I have a problem with, the first is that my transmission is dying on me, think I am going to replace engine and transmission with something with a little more pep. a friend suggested a 1999 Mirage engine or a Toyota Starlet engine ( with turbo).
the second is that I would love to get some disc pad on the rear and I can't get any suggestion there.
I would love it if someone could help me with any of these problems.
thanks much

I've just put two catcam cam shafts into my car. My friend installed it and he knows how to do pretty much everything with an engine. After we got them installed I had no check engine light so I thought it was all good. Turned off the car and started it again then I got a check engine light. I've hooked up my computer to it and it says Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit High Input. So I don't know if I need a new sensor or if I need a new sensor that will support these cams or what? Not sure. Any advice?

Go to Hyundayperformanceautoparts.com for computer upgrades. Upgrades include higher rev limit, no speed limilters, retuned fuel/ignition maps. Cost about $390 US but must use high octane fuel.

I'm installing a short ram intake on my 2002 Elantra and would i be right to assume the MAF sensor would still need to be in place? If it's disconnected and removed will this result in any obd codes?
Some mods i've seen pictured seem to have it removed.

ok if you install performance crank or power pullys will this add horse power? ive seen them for sale online and they claim alot of horsepower from a pully upgrade. there is the Unorthdox racing ultra s underdrive crank pulley witch claims 5-12 hp gain. also obx precision overdrive power pulley that claims 10-12 hp. another one ive seen for obx is there precision adjustable cam sprockets witch claims 5-20 hp. so in theory if i install all 3 id get a minimum of 20 more hp my car.
does anyone have these installed? Should i buy these parts?
Thanks

My '99 2.4 stumbles after a (not really cold) start up.
It is the engine stubling not the transmission. Its even starting to shut down sometimes if I leave it to idle in Park.
Already changed plugs and checked wires and coils. Also changed air and fuel filters. It's not cold enough here to have these problems yet or to have to wait long for the engine to warm up.
The car bucks and stumbles for the first few times I start off then seems to cure itself as it gets warm?
Any suggestions?

Being an avid car enthusiast myself and have done HUGE modifications to my SS. I think it would be pretty sweet if Foreign vendors would make Header back exhaust, different variations of High lift cams, Turbos, FMICs, Superchargers , Powertuners etc....I know this type of thought has even crossed their paths but I feel very strongly it may start to draw a croud if the built a demo car..tuned it and tested it for durability. The 06-07 Sonata 3.3 would be a beast no doubt...with 235 HP those mods I listed would easily take it over 300 HP...wouldn't a supercharger look sweet in the engine bay?!
LOL here is a teaser of my other beast

I've been gettin this stumbling since the summer,Now that it has cooled off outside the car runs solid for about 5 minutes,Then once I get to the next street it stumbles and putters almost like it wants to stall but never does,I have changed the plugs and wires and just recently checked the plugs to find some kinda of buildup on the flat circular part of the plugs all 4 plugs looked the same..A friend of mine is a mechanic and hooked his diagnostic code finder to it,only to come up with NO codes or faults found, but the check engine light has been on for months now and blinks when the car stumbles as Im giving it gas.. Only thing we could think of is OXYGEN SENSORS... Also from time to time the TRANS seems to get stuck in 2nd gear,Which Im blaming the stumbling on..Other symptom is it stumbles when under a load..like goin uphill etc..But no knocking sound like bad gas or timing...Any Ideas other then the O2 sensors? Thanks

Hello, Im having a problem with a 98' Hyundai Accent Auto. The problem is intermittent, so will go for a week sometimes with no problems then this will happen.
It will start fine, and idles with no trouble at all. But if you put in in Reverse or Drive, it sputters and after a while stalls out.
The Check Engine Light had been on for over a year when this first happened. After taking to the non-dealer mechanic he couldnt get it to happen. He researched it and eventually concluded that it was the Pulse Generator.
Now after getting it back, and it working for a week with the Check Engine Light off. It has happened again 2 days in a row.
The check engine light now blinks while the car is sputtering/hesitating, and is on full-time when idling.
I have tried tightening the gas cap, and removing the MAF sensor with no results.
Any advice would be stellar considering my current situation.
-Scott
Tried jogging the connector on the TPS, and after 4 straight start-and-stalls, it drove around the block fine.
After researching the TPS a bit, it doesnt seem like this would be the cause. Would a faulty TPS possibly give these symptoms? and due the the problem being intermittent, i cant tell if what I did made it run, or if its just one of those times where it works.

Hi, I have a 2001 Accent 1.3 GSI.
I am getting a whining noise from my engine when I start off and am building up speed (normally up to about 25mph roughly). I recently had the tappets and oil changed because of a horribly loud rattle and the rattle is away, however the whine still there.
Is this because the engine is cold or something more serious?
Also, is there anything I can do about the mesh making a grinding sound when I go into 3rd?

the topic says it all.
but before i go on, a little intro. Im 20, not really a huge car guy but i am dafinately into drag racing. Im new to this forum and Im happy to have found it.
So, back to my car. There is a local Stadium (Qualcomm Stadium) that has occasional drag (and i think drift) competitions in an organized, safe setting. I've always wanted to take part after going to these races with my youth pastor and his Turbo'd 3rd gen RX-7 and one of my Marine Buddies in his supercharged RSX. I know that my car probably couldn't stand up to other 2.0L 4-bangers with a similar horsepower rating.
I have two things here I would like your opinions on: First off is the more extreme, time consuming and expensive option. (before I go too far into this, im not a big tuner person, and definately dont understand the finer points of engine swaps) After talking to yet another of my Marine buddies, we deemed it *possible* to swap out the motor in mt elantra for a motor from an Evo VII or VIII (which are also 2.0L and rated at 275hp +/-). IF this option is done i plan on converting the drivetrain to a RWD so i can take more of the extra power in the squatting of the car on acceleration. There are some problems already forseen. First is the Turbo/Intercooler plumbing. I know there is some extra space in my engine compartment, and im wondering if the engine, intercooler, and all its respective plumbing/wiring harnesses could fit into the existing space. Second is getting enough air to cool the engine. I want to keep the exterior as stock as possible (to scare the **** out of some super-egotistical supercharged civic riders that have invaded so cal) and I was wondering if enough air would get into the cooling system. lastly, i was just wondering if the body of the car could handle turbo'd 275 hp.
the second and almost less expensive option is to just "rice out" my motor (turbo or surpercharge it etc...) if this is the better option, i was wondering if you guys could point me to reliable stores (internet or in the san diego area) that have and can install the appropriate Horsepower and torque parts i need to get a good jump and high top speed.
I'd prefer the engine swap, but im wide open to ether option as it is only a thought at the moment. Im also still toying with the idea of getting an 06 tiburon as the performance parts options seem more readily available.
Whatever i do to my car I want to get at least 200whp and anywhere between 180-240 torque. I'd prefer the engine swap as my motor is reaching up towards 75k mileage and no longer under warranty (bought it used: warranty ran to 60k), so it doesnt bother me to have a brand new Evo motor.
All help/opinions welcome.
a third option i just thought of: are there any more powerful Hyundai motors i could swap out for? preferable a V6 if possible.
thanks again!!

My 2005 Tucson GLS 2.7L developed an intermittent hesitation problem late last fall. It occurs mostly (but not always) on cold days, from a full stop. It’s worse on inclines. I’ve taken it to the dealer 3X. The first time they told me a vacuum line had a split in it, they replaced it, and it was fine for a few weeks. The second time they said my air filter was filthy (it wasn’t), replaced it, and it was fine for another few weeks. This third time, they’ve decided it’s a fuel contaminant and they’ve recommended replacing the fuel filter, fuel pump, and fuel tank. I decided to pursue other options. I thought initially that it was a fuel issue, now I’m wondering it it’s an oxygen sensor problem. Any ideas?
