I am looking to get the Oxygen censors replaced on my 2001 Hyundai Sonata. It is the 2.4L 4 cylinder. I am going to purchase the parts on line, and there are so many different types of sensors. I was wondering if I could get some help. When looking, I am thinking the universal sensors, since they are a lot cheaper. There are several different types. They all are either 1-4 wired with out connectors. It says they will fit Engine/Chassis. Does anyone know if these will work and what kind of connectors I will need? I am also finding some that go before and after the catalyst? I would love to hear from anyone, all help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I’m going to be changing the fuel filter, outside the tank, anyone have any experiences with this?

ARGH...i have a 1990 excel sprint, it was starting to miss a couple times so we changed the plugs, distibutor cap, rotor button.& leads. the car ran fine on the day, but then after letting it sit for 2days i went to start it and it ran hairy(as tho it was fuel starved) so i went and replaced the fuel filter.....But this still did not fix the problem...the car will turn over and start but it sounds like its fuel starved or runnin on 1cylinder, the second you put ur foot on the eccelerator it stalls... we have checked to make sure the firing order is correct and that the leads are correctly placed, and that there is spark coming from all leads.fuel pump is also working and fuel is reaching the motor.iv had the car for 6mths and prior had no probs with it, previous owners stated that the motor had a rehaul done it about 2yrs ago.............ANY HELP at all will be extremly appreciated

Reuters
Automotive News / January 10, 2006 - 3:00 pm
DETROIT -- Toyota Motor Corp. claims to be afraid of a lot of things: complacency, competition, and success itself.
But in the United States, rival Hyundai Motor Co. may well be at the top of Toyota's list.
"We're worried about them," Yukitoshi Funo, chairman of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., told reporters in Detroit this week.
"Our main competitors here are essentially Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. and Hyundai, but Hyundai is the one we are very carefully watching," he said on the sidelines of the North American International Auto Show here.
South Korea's top automaker, until recently a target of jokes about broken-down parts, has dramatically raised its profile on the world stage with a benchmark study by research firm J.D. Power showing an improvement in quality to match the best Japanese brands.
Hyundai now sells far more cars than Volkswagen AG, Mazda Motor Corp. and Subaru in the United States. It expects sales to rise more than 10 percent this year to over 500,000 units, in an overall market that it reckons will shrink.
In 2005, Hyundai's sales fell 7.7 percent to 418,615 units, giving it a market share of 2.5 percent.
"The quality story is resonating," Bob Cosmai, chief executive officer of Hyundai Motor America, told Reuters at the Detroit show. "We're broadening the depth of our product line, and it's a great value story. When I joined the company at the end of 1990 we sold 90,000 cars, so we're making our presence really known."
Unveiling the remodeled Santa Fe SUV at the show, Cosmai said its popular model would be priced "thousands of dollars" below a comparably equipped Toyota Highlander with six airbags, electronic stability control and other advanced safety features.
As Cosmai admits, Hyundai's path to success has been modeled closely on Toyota's strategy of striving for top quality and competitive prices, and appealing to a broad range of customers with wide-ranging cars.
That's what worries Toyota most.
"Honda and Nissan are also formidable rivals, but they have a distinct business approach and profile from us," Toyota's Funo said. "Hyundai, meanwhile, is essentially doing what we're doing."
But Funo added that Toyota would not and could not compete with Hyundai on prices, and would instead focus on building its brand and value.
"Our costs aren't as low as Hyundai's. We don't want to compete on their terms," he said.
His Hyundai counterpart, meanwhile, seemed to be adopting Toyota's characteristic modesty when asked how the South Korean company stacked up.
"I'm not sure anyone's a big threat to Toyota right now," Cosmai said.
"They're a very successful company," he said, adding that Hyundai benchmarked much of its processes and design characteristics around Toyota. "We have a long way to go."

Traditionally, Hyundai is considered a "cheap" automaker. People see you driving Hyundai and think - he drives this car because he cannot afford anything better.
Sonata is a mid-size sedan. It's not the cheapest but at the same time not the most expensive Hyundai so this post might show how poor the average Hyundai owner is.
So, what's your average household income?

Ok,
Hyundai has allowed us to host a meet at the plant in AL. HYPER will be hosting it.
We need to settle on:
Dates:
~April or March
Ideas:
~Serious ones
Locked in attendees:
This is 100% serious. Hyundai wants this to start rolling ASAP!
It will take time to plan it so we need a date at the very minimum.

I have a quick question. I was wondering if Hyundai uses any GM engines and if so, which ones are they? I am asking this because I drive a korean car and it uses a GM engine and I am wondering if Hyundai uses any GM engines as it may make it easier for me to get aftermarket parts for my car.

OK, I don't want to offend anybody or get into a vicious argument. But in my experience, using 93 octane helped improve my fuel economy enough to justfiy the extra cost. I ran 87 for a long time, then experimented with higher octanes and found that higher octaine ratings had a linear correlation with fuel economy. That is the fuel economy increased proportionally to the octane rating.
I mostly use BP or shell gas. The past two weeks; I have been using 87 again, and notice some decrease in fuel economy, but not as bad as it was in the beginning. I average 34-37 mpg with premium and 28-32 with regular. Is it true that some gas companies add other ingredients to their gas that increase fuel economy? What about toluene?
BTW, my car woould sputter in August when I would start it in the morning; since I used gumout and switched back to regular gas; it no longer does this. Could premium have been causing sputter starts? It would sputter and die, and I would have to start it again, but it would start fine.
I read in my repair manual that I have to replace the fuel pump, and can't replace the filter alone in my Elantra? Is this true?
Also, could my timing belt be adjusted to improve horse power or fuel economy with premium gas?

Hey everyone,
So i took my hyundai sonata to the Honda dealership for an oil change the other day. It wasn't a mistake, I took it there on purpose

They changed my oil and did an inspection (air pressure fluid checks, etc) on my car for only $27. Last time I had this done at hyundai I paied over $60. Plus honda tossed in a free vacum and car wash (and actually dried the car). The waiting room was also so much better (leather Lazyboy chairs and a plasma tv), and the people there were 1000 times more friendly. Just thought i'd let everyone know who pays a lot for oil changes at there dealership (I rememeber a post on this somewhere where people paied as much as I did).

I just bought my 2007 Santa Fe and thinking about rust protection. I live in Ontairo so they use alot of salt on the roads in the winter. The dealership had suggested I use their undercoating but it was highway roberry. I was certain I could find something a little less expensive. Plus I heard the markup is crazy at the dealership.
Has anyone got the rust protection at the dealer and have paid a lower price ? I was quoted $599 OUCH. Does this goop actually work ?
What about Krown oil spray or Rust Check ? They are about $120
Anyone have a 2001 - 2003 model and used a product you are happy with. No rusting.
What about the electronic rust inhibitors you can install. They are new but are they effective ? Cost $150
Other recommendations and suggestions from experience would be great.

I live in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania, where NY, NJ & PA borders come together (also called the Pocono mountains) and I have my first Hyundai (Azera).
Now I need a place to have it serviced. My preferences would be:
Northeast PA (of course), or
Northwest NJ, or
NY in the the Port Jervis to Middletown area (I think that's Orange & Rockland counties, but not certain).
Just for the record, I bought the car at Stateline Hyundai/Ford in Phillipsburg, NJ. I spoke to the service manager and he seemed to be very nice and helpful, but that doesn't always translate to superior service personnel.
Any suggestions?

I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe.
I had taken it to the dealership this week so they could send it to their body shop for repair. There was some paint bubbling on the roof in one spot.
Well I got it back today from the body shop and was shocked by what they had done. They fixed the paint mark but when they applied the final layer of clear coat they sprayed it right over part of the black molding/trim that runs along the top of the roof and right around the bottom rubber of the roof rack.
When I brought it to there attention they had a guy come out and start pulling the molding up so the paint wasn't holding it down. Needless to say things look a lot worse then before.
There are clear coat bumps all along the one edge of the roof and a couple spots now where the paint has come off to show the primer.
I immediatlely called the dealer when I got home. He said they will want the vehicle back so they can have it fixed properly this time, unfortunately with the same body shop.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? I am so angry to say the least.

Hey guys, I am new to the forum and my wife and I are thinking about getting at new Hyndai Tiburon GT and I was wondering if anyone has heard if they will be offering 0% financing anytime soon. I would rather wait and get one if they are planning on doing it. I think a lot of car manufactures usually offer 0% financing during August or Septmeber. Thanks!

Hyundai Motor said on Sunday that it will release an LPG hybrid in 2009. The Avante LPG Hybrid will combine an LPG engine with an electric motor in the popular midsize sedan. It will be the first Korean hybrid car for consumers. After Hyundai, Kia will release a similar model to the market.
Hyundai reckons the car will use only 30 percent...

Hi All,
I was a gear head during the begining of Hyundai's entry into the US market. I've always looked at them skeptically, especially when they received the dubious honor of being described as "Disposable Cars."
Fast forward to about 20 years later, which found my wife and I living in Sydney, Australia and looking for reliable transportation that wouldn't break the bank (both on initial cost of the car and recurring costs). Strangely enough, a used Hyundai Excel landed squarely in our sights as it met a number of criteria (initial cost, fuel efficient, aesthetics, etc.) We picked up a white 2000 Hyundai Excel (last production year for this model in Oz).
The car served us well for the year we were in Oz. Drove the spunky little vehicle through the hills of Sydney, out to the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley, etc...and when we sold it, since the car had already gone through the majority of its depreciation (first three years), we sold it for a decent price. It was a great little car and changed my perspective on owning a Hyundai when we returned to the States.
We picked up a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS when we returned (2.0L 4cyl, AT, 52K miles, power everything, etc). Unfortunately, we've had some bad luck with the vehicle. From my perspective, on paper the car is great for what it is...cheap, reliable and efficient transportation with a great warranty. Unfortunately, real life rarely plays out how it does "on paper." Where we have really hit a wall is through the service departments we've been to. We had to go through two very poor service organizations to get to a relatively decent one.
That said, we're currently going through the 60K maintenance schedule for the vehicle. All the scheduled items are going to run approx. $1200 including the timing belt, accessory belt, water pump, spark plugs, plug wires, coolant flush, brake fluid replacement (they said it's "black", even though we had brake service completed a month ago), tranny flush, oil change, air filter, cabin air filter, etc.
I understand major service like this needs to be performed, but when the cost runs fully a quarter of the KBB value of the car, one has to wonder whether it is worth it to purchase these vehicles. Especially with the hideous resale values they have. To illustrate, this is a breakdown of what we've spent on this economy car since acquiring it in December:
Car purchased - $5700
Rear Brakes - $200
4 New Tires (mount, balance, lifetime align.) - $800
Rear brakes again (stated tire co. installed new, incorrect studs) - $150
Rear brakes again (had to rent a car for 3rd time back as dealership couldn't figure out problem and wouldn't provide loaner) - $100
Disintegrated Weather Stripping (wouldn't cover under warranty) - $100
60,000 mile service - approx. $1200
This is not to mention 5 times back for items that were covered under warranty, like recalls and some TSBs. This included hesitation on initial start (only in AM), master switch for mirrors and windows, clunking sound in rear suspension, etc.
So, total cost so far (not including oil and gas): $8250 in just over 6 months for a car that is worth, at best $6200 in the KBB.
I think the wife and I will be looking at a Nissan or Toyota for our next purchase. Hopefully, this car will last long enough for us to save for a down payment...without any further appointments for service required.
You mileage may vary. Have a nice day.
-Fiend

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for your time in reading this. I recently moved to MN, and my A/C compressor decided to quit. I had a great mechanic in CA, that always quoted me a fair price, but don't know any mechanics here in MN.
I live in Eagan, and am looking for someone who can replace my A/C compressor, for a good price. If I like the work and the shop is reasonably priced I can be a loyal customer.
I am basically asking for recommendations to a good shop.
Thank you in advance for your replies.

I'm about to purchase an Elantra 2007 from my local dealer, and I plan to keep it forever, so I was looking at extending the Hyundai-factory warranty to 10,000 miles. However, I just read on this forum that Hyundai shifted off their warranty to a different group, JM&A!?
Should I be incredibly worried? I'm unsure what would be the best decision. Compounding the problem, my dealer was saying they don't sell a Hyundai-factory warranty, they sell their own dealer warranty. They said they would look into the Hyundai warranty for me. Should I tell them to bother, or should I look for someone else to sell me the warranty, or perhaps not buy one at all for a while? I realize I'm getting the 5/10 bb/powertrain warranty already, so maybe I have some time?
Hopefully someone here can provide some sound advice. I thank you in advance!

I posted on EXD about the alignment issues I have been having on the HD. 2 dealers won't bother fixing it. What is going on is there is more negative camber (tire positioned /) on the left than the right and caster on the right front is off as well.
Dealer report

Notice the differing numbers...
The day before, I took the car to a vendor we use for our alignments and they came up with this. This one is by hand, which tends to be more accurate than a computer generated report.

Now, here is the right side rear with the car on the ground.

Left side

There is a visible difference in the camber angle.
Now, the tough part..
The new Elantra has a non-adjustable camber and caster on both ends of the car. The camber is preset and adjusting that without modification is futile. If the camber on both front and rear is set up with solid mounts, as the HD has, (but the front has very little adjustment) adjusting the camber is not possible. Caster is set by moving the strut forward and backward at the top and this has a solid mount.
The front end of the car is a strut design. It is similar to the XD.
The rear end is completely different. Instead of being a strut design, HMC put a upper and lower control arm setup with a separate shock and spring with a trailing arm. This design is similar to the Mustang.
I had no choice but to file a formal complaint with HMA regarding the suspension. I also filed a complaint with the NHTSB (National Highway Traffic Safety Board) and my state AGO (Attorney General Office) plus the BBB lemon law systems. HMA probably will expect the BBB and the AGO complaints, but I think the NHTSB will catch them off gaurd. I also had my business partners wife, who is an attorney draft a formal letter to Hyundai with questions why the design has non-adjusting angles and a specific time limit to solve the problem.

I have a 2004 Santa Fe with 84,000 kms. I noticed today that I have a spot on my roof where the paint looks to be bubbling like rust is coming from underneath. In the middle is a spot where it looks like the paint has come off a tiny bit but it has no rust in it. It just looks white in the middle of the spot.
I know I am out of my 3 year warranty. But would this be something that should be covered under the anti-perforation warranty?
I called the dealer and they didn't say anything for sure except that they need to see it and then take a picture of it.

Trade deal delights Hyundai, alarms U.S. workers
The ink was barely dry on a proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the United States and South Korea when Hyundai Motor announced it would study a plan to export pickup trucks into the United States.
That’s just one impact of this one-sided trade deal, announced in early hours of April 2. It’s the latest example of U.S. trade officials going to the table and negotiating a great deal — for the other side.
UAW President Ron Gettelfinger urged Congress to reject the agreement.
“It fails the basic test of any reasonable trade agreement,” he said.
“It’s not reciprocal.”
The proposed U.S.-Korea FTA immediately eliminates U.S. tariffs on autos and auto parts. It also phases out over 10 years the U.S. tariffs on imported pickups. But there are no guarantees that Korea will dismantle their nontariff barriers to U.S-built automotive products.
“Last year, Korea exported 550,000 vehicles to the U.S.,” said Gettelfinger, “while the U.S. sold just 4,000 vehicles in Korea. Something is obviously wrong with this picture — and this trade agreement will do nothing to make it right.”
The US-Korea FTA, as proposed, will increase the U.S. trade deficit with South Korea, currently running at $14 billion. Other auto companies oppose the deal because it will not open the Korean market to U.S. vehicles.
The UAW is supporting instead a bipartisan proposal which would require Korea to take concrete steps to open its domestic market before being granted additional access to U.S. markets.

Hyundai means business, too (June 2007)
Hyundai has unveiled its tilt
