I am curious as to what kind of deals the dealers are willing to give up on the new Sonata. The financing is not that great with all the 0% that is out there now. Please do not embelish what you negotiated, just tell us what kind of deal you got. Did they go to invoice, or below? Did they give oil changes for life, state inspection for life, loaner car offers? Tell us what you got.

I am looking at trading in my Mazdaspeed 3 for a new 2011 Sonata. Question i have is ... Will my after market rims fit?
I have Tenzo R DC-6 5x114.3 18x8 +45 offset with 225/45/zr18 rubber. I have done the calculations on the rolling diameter, and it's only 1.3% off of the 17" wheels and rubber that come on the limited here in Canada.
My question is about the offset ... is it too wide?

Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to point out some of the little things we've learned about our cars that we might not have realized before we bought them, some good, some bad. Maybe somebody else has found some stuff that I haven't.
Good:
There's a small blue light in the little hole where the sunroof control is. Reminds me of the ambient lighting on my Acura.
Homelink buttons have really good range.
Navigation unit not locked down at all.
Bad:
Smart key door opener. On my Camry I had to push the button on the handle to lock the door, but to open I only had to put my hand inside the handle.
No cargo net.
Stupid bulge in the door panels to allow you to put a bottle in. Really bugs me.
Too easy to hit the buttons below the NAV screen when trying to use the touch screen.
Lumbar support, while adjustable, is too low on the back.
===========================================
Nothing really earth shattering. Just little stuff.

Edmunds was pretty critical of the SE trim 2011 Sonata in the 7 sedan comparo review, where the Camry and Fusion won out.
Interestingly, Edmunds was also critical of the GLS trim model.
Do the GLS and Limited share the same suspension and steering settings, as this is a big area of criticism for them?
From Edmund's review:
http://www.insideline.com/hyundai/sonata/2...-full-test.html Yet as we drive our 2011 Sonata GLS, that checklist is never far from mind. The drivetrain, steering and suspension all feel like separate elements that never quite unify into a whole.
"The steering is so isolated from what's actually happening, the slalom becomes a visual exercise rather than one of feel," says our resident track-test driver.
Hyundai now has an engine that goes toe-to-toe with Volkswagen's beloved 2.0T in both power and fuel consumption. First of all, this normally aspirated engine makes 198 hp at 6,300 rpm, close to the VW's output. It also has a similar collection of not-so-pleasant sounds at idle and under heavy throttle that are characteristic of direct-injected engines.
Ride Is a Bit Underdone, Too
Of course, then you hit a bump and the suspension gets out of sorts. Maybe it's just the lumpy back road, but later you're on the freeway, and there's still too much movement over garden-variety seams and ruts. The damping just isn't quite right on our GLS tester. Ride quality feels less solid and sophisticated than on rivals like the Mazda 6 and Honda Accord.

Hey guys, im new to this forum. Im a proud owner of an 08 Elantra, the car is great but im ready for an upgrade and the new Sonata is my perfect choice. Im looking to get a Limited but i've been reading that the SE handles better, so here is my question, does the Limited has a different suspension then the SE? Or is it just the rims 17" vs 18" that makes it handle different?

I have been interested from the start of my research what the most popular color for the new Sonata was. I originally thought I wanted the Indigo Blue Pearl until I saw it in person and decided it was just a little too busy for my taste. I have changed my mind a few times as to what my favorite is, but as of late I am leaning to the Venetian Red, and Pearl White. What is your choice?

Hi, I am new to the forum and have been considering a 2011 Sonata after seeing it at the Auto Show. I'll be buying sometime this summer, so im still researching, but so far the Sonata is tops on my list in terms of features/per price, plus I like the better warranty and know several people with Hyundais who are happy with them.
What I've been looking for is a GOOD shot of the seats in the SE. Since I merely "stumbled" upon the Sonata at the auto show and at the time wasnt completely interested, I never bothered to get a good interior shot of the "leather bolstered cloth seats".
Something I find funny is that so many of Hyundai's promotional pictures of the Sonata are of the SE exterior (with the 18" wheels and dual exhaust), but they show the Limited's interior (with dual zone climate control and Infinity sound system). Ive seen a couple SE interior pics, but they dont show the seats.
Does someone have a good picture of the interior seating (front and back) of an SE?
Also, for those of you with SEs, if you could comment on comfort, look and feel, etc, about these seats? I dont have to have leather, but I kinda wish they were heated!

Thanks in advance and I look forward to contributing on other threads here!

Does anyone else have a problem (well don't know if it is a problem) when the engine is idle or accelerating you here the tick, tick, tick? Coming from a V6 Altima, don't know if this is normal for the new GDI engine. Is it the engine rockers or valves? Can anyone chime in and let me know if this is ok?

Went to the local hand car wash yesterday to get my car hand waxed. The guy that takes the money also works washing the cars. So they start washing and about 5 minutes later the guy comes in to collect the money. When I tell him I want the hand wax, I guess he has to put into a log what kind of car it is. Unfortunately when he asked me I didn't really understand what he said since English is not his first language. When I asked him to repeat the question he said, "Is Mercedes?" I kind of laughed and said, "No, it's a Hyundai."
Well I guess he thought I was just being a jerk because about 5 minutes later he came back in and said, "Really is Hyundai." He then went back to his log and crossed out his earlier entry.

hello! i am picking up my first ever hyundai, a 2011 sonata ltd., black on black, and have already gleaned so much useful information from this site. i do have a question as to the hyundai ipod cable that is sold for the sonata. does anyone know if the Kenwood KCA-IP200 will work? it seems to have the same make up, just a slightly different design. any help would be great. if i can't get one thrown in for free, these are so much more inexpensive in addition to being a little longer so i can keep my ipod in the armrest.
thanks,

Hello,
I am new to this site. I was going to purchase a 2010 Sonota but decided to wait after seeing the 2011. I currently own a 09 Ford Focus SE which is the worst car a have ever own and will NEVER own another ford car....anyways my question regarding the 2011 is Do they have DRLs if so is it something that can be disabled? My 09 focus has DRLs and they can't be disable because they are part of the Smart Junction Box. The reason for asking is when i purchase a 2011, I would like to add HIDs. I have had these on several cars that I have owned and they make seeing at night much easier.
Thanks for any input!

I'm looking to buy Pearl White, LTD with nav, black interior. Obviously the LTD only comes with 17' which I can't stand .. Has anyone requested for an upgrade with the wheels while negotiating for the Sonata ? I can't take the SE because it doesn't have the mirror signals, rear vented console, dual climate, etc.
So real question is, if this is brought up at the dealer as a request, you think they'd swap rims? or you think I offer them about 1k they'd order it or risk swapping rims. lol

Hey guys,
I've recently purchased a 2011 Sonata Limited and have an issue using the iPod with it:
http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/vi...0static#MSG1032Here is the post:
Hey guys,
I've got an issue to raise, that hopefully some other folks can help me (and "us") out with. As most of you probably know already, I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited, with the Dimension sound system, and iPod integration. I also own a 64GB 3G iPod Touch, which has a lot of (static-free) music on it. When playing music from the iPod through the audio system in the car, using the iPod cable, there is a highly noticeable amount of static in many different songs.
So far, I have done the following:
* Tried using a different iPod (my girlfriend's iPod Nano) - 2010-02-28
* Tested XM and HD radio and same music (as on iPod) on mp3 data CD (none of which exhibit the static behavior) - 2010-02-28
* Tried the iPod Touch 3G in a showroom 2011 Sonata (exhibited same behavior) - 2010-03-02
* Spoke to service consultant at my local dealership who indicated that another customer had reported the issue last week. Suggested replacing cable. - 2010-03-02
* Used a different iPod cable (exchanged at the parts department at dealership) per dealership recommendation. Did not fix. - 2010-03-02
* Called Hyundai Consumer Affairs (800-633-5151) and logged a case - 2010-03-02
* Received call back from Hyundai Consumer Affairs stating that I needed to talk to the service manager at dealership and log a repair request - 2010-03-02
* Called service manager back and left voicemail to call me - 2010-03-02
* Recorded a video and posted to Youtube regarding the issue - 2010-03-02
Todo
----------------------
* Wait for callback from service manager
* Update Hyundai Consumer Affairs regarding results from service manager
* Log support case with dealership
----------------------
If anyone else could post back with their experiences on the iPod / Sonata integration, I'd be most appreciative. Also, if you have not yet used an iPod with your Sonata, but have both, it would be very helpful if you could try it out, and see if you can reproduce the behavior.
FYI, I will be posting the Youtube video soon. My edits are still processing, and it will take some time to upload as well.
Cheers,
Trevor

Any ideas?

Hi,
The can has just been released and I'm already looking into replacing the head unit
I'm not sure 100% but I think this new model needs a CAN BUS adapter if I want to hold the steering wheel button.
Can someone confirm this is true and if such adapter exist?
Thanks to all

Link below to "Motor Trend" comparison test just out.
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans...ison/index.htmlDisagree with the #3 ranking and # 1 for Camry (problems or not). When you look at the numbers, guess who's
first. Think the Limited model would have rated higher as they didn't like the SE's ride.
Honda's really slipping despite their rating. Only changes I'd like on the Sonata Limited are the following.
1.) Rear fog light (is does really help those behind to see the car)
2.) Power passenger seats-not 8-way but back/forth, up/down with manual recline
3.) Bi-Xenon headlights
4.) Availabiity of the Nav system without the Infiniti radio
Sure, cost is important, but the above changes, in my opinion, would boost the car even more. 0-60 times
have been quoted at 7.8 to "Motor Trend's" 8.1 today which is more than adequate. Comments or disagreements
please!

They picked the Fusion and Camry ahead of the Sonata, but were surprisingly extremely critical of the lack of refinement in the Sonata's suspension.
"The biggest problem is the chassis tuning, which sacrifices way too much ride quality on the altar of lateral grip and handling sharpness. Hyundai's 225/45R18 tires are the biggest, lowest-profile meats here and they ride on the widest track, laying a terrific foundation for strong handling dynamics. But the company's lack of practice building Grand Touring suspensions shows in its choice of dampers, springs, and bushings, which hunker down for great cornering on a perfectly smooth surface but send the car bounding around on imperfections and undulations, compromising grip and upsetting the ride. Similarly, the second quickest steering here makes turn-in feel aggressive, but transmits little or no road feel."But it's not just the suspension and numb steering. It's the 2nd from last loudest interior and the backwards step in interior room and quality of materials:
"Yes, we realize GLS and Limited models will ride better, but other shortcomings as a sedan conspired to lower the Sonata's rank. Most editors' noggins contacted the rear ceiling (despite those best-in-class rear headroom figures), the cabin din at 70 mph was second loudest, and access to the roomy trunk is through a smallish opening, thanks to the rear-window placement. The previous model's interior design and ergonomics were also deemed richer looking and more user friendly."Read more:

Hey everyone,
Does anyone have photos of the Limited's Wine leather interior? I'm very interested in a White pearl exterior with wine leather interior + Navi. I think that will help brighten up the dark interior of the Black leather, which I also like, but is just a bit too dark.
Thanks!

I finally got around to test driving a GLS with the popular equipment package.
It was pretty nice. The cloth seats seem very well made and overall the interior and exterior seemed top notch, especially for an entry level trim. Top notch as far as cars I've seen (none being luxury cars)
I was also able to test drive the Fusion SE (I4) and Altima 2.5S coupe. Fusion was nice but styling was a little more bland inside and out. I wasn't as impressed with the Altima as I thought I would be. Given that it's feature to price ratio is worse than the others, I'm probably dropping that one.
I was amazed at how quiet the sonata and fusion were compared to my civic. I didn't floor the pedal on either one but in normal driving, they were pretty quiet.
The GLS I tested had 19.2 mpg when I started and finished with 19.8. Apparently I drive more eco-friendly than the other testers. Hard to gauge mpg without knowing if the people before me were lead foots.
My decision will likely come down to the SE or Limited version (unless I get a bargain price on a Fusion that's too good to pass up). Unfortunately the Hyundai dealership was in the process of selling their last Limited when I arrived and had no SE in stock. If the difference in driving experience is negligible between SE and Limited then I'll probably opt for the Limited due to all the extra features.
Couple questions
For those that have driven a SE and Limited, how much difference could you notice between the 2 as far as driving experience (power/handling/etc)?
For those that own a sonata and have driven through a tank of gas, what's your mpg? city? hwy?

How has everyones experience with bluetooth voice dialing been? I have a Blackberry with over 2000 enteries in the address book. So far I've gotten it to recognize only one name correctly. Also when I receive a call from any other numbers in my address book the display only shows the phone number and not the name. By the way I don't have Nav it that matters.
Does anyone know if there is a memory limitation? With Voice dialing with my Blackberry it always shows three choices and usually one of them is correct. I don't know of any way to get the Car to give me any options beside the incorrect name it comes up with. I've tried different pronunciations but it doesn't seem to matter.
I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

Saw this posted on Edmunds Carspace. It's a review Edmunds did of the GLS:
http://www.insideline.com/hyundai/sonata/2...-full-test.html
Yet as we drive our 2011 Sonata GLS, that checklist is never far from mind.
Ride Is a Bit Underdone, Too[i
]Of course, then you hit a bump and the suspension gets out of sorts. [/i]

For those of you that remember me, I missed it here! Since September, I have had many things going on and haven't had much time to do anything. Things are better now and I will be frequenting just as I used to.
If everyone remembers, I work at a Hyundai dealer. We got our first Sonata a week and a half ago and I was in love. I swore I would never go back to a car but I have been having a few problems with my Santa Fe and with gas prices expected to go over $3, I decided to check out a new Sonata. I have decided on the SE (if I could afford it, i'd go for the limited). I have driven the GLS and Limited and have sat in the SE but we sold it off the truck, so I didn't have much time with it. For those that have an SE, how is the sound system? Is the ride at all bumpy?
I will be getting $15,000 for my Santa Fe and I'm going to be purchasing the car for around $1,000 under invoice. I'm deciding between harbor gray and indigo blue ( probably leaning towards the gray). Both cars should be in any day and both are being held for me so I can decide on a color. Not too happy you have to spend $2,600 to get a sunroof since I really wanted one. If I could have afforded it, I would have just went for the Limited for the sunroof and dimension sound system. I don't need nav.
Can anyone tell me what kind of gas mileage they are getting and what the range is when full?
It's great to be back!

Hi everyone,
Just brought home our new addition, 2011 Sonata SE and am thinking about adding an amp and subwoofer but keeping the stock headunit with a simple hi low converter. Just looks too nice to go aftermarket receiver...
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could get the dash panels apart to get to the back of the headunit? This is my first Hyundai so I don't know if it is simple as grab and pull (praying nothing breaks)
Not touch screen, just the basic model

When using the XM radio, (2011 Sonata Limited) when I select a channel the INFO regarding the song playing comes up and the disappears. Pushing the INFO button again
the song information may or may not come back up. How do others find this to work? Maybe I am being too picky.
Reading the manual for the XM I assumed that each time I selected INFO the title, etc. would appear.
The Limited (Radiant Silver with gray interior, piano black trim), Love it, great vehicle. No Nav.
For any hamradio operators out there reading, I did install a VHF dual band (Kenwood D700 with APRS) and a Nuvi 750 GPS in the front dash cubbyholes.
Pictures available.

While it is not my first choice of color, the car will mainly be driven by my wife and she is in love with the Iridescent Silver Blue Metalic. We are planning on getting a SE, and after returning from dealer today, I got an email from the salesman.
Bill
After checking the build schedule they still havn't commited to build the SE in the Iridescent Silver Blue.
Does anybody know of a way to verify this? I mean on the Hyundai website they show the SE is available in the color.

Some say it just a paper model Hyundai uses to advertise low starting price and better EPA city mileage.
Some say Hyundai drops the price an artificial amount on the manual model just to make the low starting price but then offers no options to bolster the point that manual don’t sell in the US.
Some might say the SE has paddle shifters so it’s the same. It’s not. It is not even a twin clutch automatic.
First picture wins! USA sold model only!

10% of 100,000 is 10,000 correct?
10% of 2009 Sonata sells were V6's?
So that means that 10,000 people who like a V6 like myself will buy an Accord V6? Altima V6? Fusion V6?
But thats just on 100,000 Sonata's i'm sure more than that will be sold. hmmm Hyundai sure better hope that turbo 4 cycl is very dependable!
I'm sure the 4 cycl will be very nice and powerful though.
What i do know that i have a combined mileage on two 3.3 V6 Sonata engines of 194,000 and no engine problems at all.

Hello,
New to the Hyundai forum. Just bought a 2011 black Sonata SE for the wife, and was looking to replace the factory headlight bulb with an aftermarket bulb that was more white in color. I do not want a HID kit, just a replacement bulb that is a 5000k or so. I searched the internet and owners manual, but could not find the type of bulb. The headlight assembly says H7 on the outside, could the high and low beam be H7's. Any advice?
Thanks,
Marco

I just bought the 2011 GLS and was wondering if anyone has added fog light to it/is it possible.

I stumbled upon a BUG in the audio software today. This is in my Limited so it would be the Dimension system. (and I observed the same behavior twice in a row, so it wasn't just a fluke)
The scenario:
1. Plug in a USB thumb drive and hit/hold the RDM button until the "ALL RDM" is displayed. Listen to songs in a random order across all folders
2. Place a phone call with the Bluetooth. The audio system and display changes into "phone call" mode
3. After hanging up the phone call, the music resumes. Except the "ALL RDM" is no longer showing or in effect. The system reverts back to the default of playing songs in order within the given folder.
This is not big deal, but is a bit annoying. Oh well, if that's the worst thing in the new Sonata, I can live with it.

Let me start off by saying that I am not a “car guy,” and do not make decisions based on 0-60 times or by comparing “road noise” with similar models. I am going to share with you how I feel about the new Sonata and how it compares to other experiences that I have had.
I should start off by saying that I traded in a 2007 Elantra GLS with cloth seats and was given a 2010 Sonata GLS with cloth seats to drive as a loaner by the dealership. Both of those cars were fairly similar in handling and driving experience with the Sonata being different only because of its larger size. They were both nice to drive, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Ok, enough preamble. Here are my thoughts after 72 hours of ownership.
First of all, this is a gorgeous car. I waited for a Black Limited with Nav and black leather interior for 5 weeks, and it was worth it. It is striking on the outside and luxurious inside. The piano black accents with the black leather just looks perfect. I thought the only thing about the car that looked cheap on my test drive was the standard radio screen. The full color Nav touchscreen fits into the car’s overall appearance much better.
I’m not overly happy with the Atlanta weather bringing nonstop rain since I bought the car, but now I have a built-in excuse to get it washed this weekend, so you win some you lose some.
Sitting in the driver’s seat for the first time since I test drove one 5 weeks ago, I was struck by how different it felt from the 2010 model. The feel from behind the steering wheel was more cockpit-like than to which I had become accustomed.
It was one of the first cars I could remember needing to move the seat up in to get closer to the steering wheel. I am 6’2”, and in some older vehicles of mine, I was virtually sitting in the back seat to drive the car. The leather driver’s seat is very comfortable to me, and I am not a skinny guy, either.
I really enjoy the proximity key and never having to take it out of my pocket. It’s taking some mental retraining to not reach for it when I am about to go somewhere, kind of like what I went through the first time I used keyless entry. I like when I use it to pop the trunk that the lid flips all the way up. This way there’s no confusion about whether it’s open or not.
Some other great features that I’d never had before: built-in nav, back up camera, voice command, padded steering wheel, push button start, integrated Bluetooth and steering wheel audio controls. I think the last 2 on the list are my personal favorites. The XM nav traffic tried to steer me around one of my usual commuting hassles the other morning—next time, I’m going to let it to see how it works.
As to the actual driving experience, I am still adjusting. The 2011 accelerates more smoothly than the 2010. I am used to having to step on the gas pedal to get the car to move, and that isn’t necessary on the 2011. For a big car, it hugs the road hard even on hard curves.
One note on the big car thing: I briefly drove a Toyota Celica a few years back. From 30 feet away, the Sonata appears to be roughly the same size. It’s not until you get on top of it that you realize that it is a big car. Many of the reviews talk about how light the car is, however, it feels like a much bigger and heavier car than the 2010 from a driving perspective.
As to gas mileage, I had done all city driving prior to yesterday, and the mpg indicator was staying right around 20 mpg. Once I spent 3 hours on the interstate yesterday, it got above 24. That 20 reading including some time hanging out in the car with the engine on, which really seems to plunge the mileage reading.
The only negative I’ve found so far in the driving experience has to do with the blind spot. The arching roofline and smallish back windows make checking it a challenge. Going to have to trust the right side mirror there.
The closest car experience that I can relate the 2011 Sonata to is when I drove my friend’s Mercedes sports coupe a few years back. No, it doesn’t have the power of that car and obviously doesn’t cost as much, but that is how the car feels regarding solidity and how it hugs the road.
Overall, I am over the moon about this car right now. I’ll update this review as I experience new things or gain new insights about it. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Just got my Sonata Limited yesterday and I can see there are a couple features for us techno-geek music lovers that are just great. One is the iPod/USB port -- I don't have an iPod and don't intend to buy one, since I use my Blackberry as my MP3 player. But I can plug in a USB thumb-drive with all my folders of music from my PC and it works great! You can scroll through all the folders and songs from the steering wheel controls and see the songs and folders on the dash display. And the sound is very clear and crisp on the Dimension audio system. Very nice.
Also, I can automatically play my Blackberry music (whether MP3 stored songs or streaming music from Slacker) through the Bluetooth connection, with no cables or anything. Again, music is crisp on the MP3 songs, although I do have to turn up the volume quite far. But then it sounds just fine. (no display of song titles with this mode, just generic streaming music). The Slacker sounds not as good, since that is down-sampled for over-the-air delivery, but that's not an issue with the Sonata or the Bluetooth. But still not bad.
Great job, Hyundai. Love those features!

Newbie here, be kind.
I went shopping on Saturday to see the new Sonata, and I was blown away. For background purposes, I was driving a 2007 Elantra GLS, but wanted to go bigger because our first child is on the way.
I had intended to buy a previous year's model to get the biggest rebate, but there was no way I could after driving the 2011. Pictures do not do this car justice--it really does resemble both in looks and quality a Mercedes coupe up close. Plus, getting 3 mpg hwy more than my Elantra was just too good of an added bonus.
If any of you take a test drive, you won't believe the effortless power that this 4cy produces. I say effortless, because it accelarates very quickly and quietly. The black leather interior is gorgeous, and the quality appears on par with the Genesis.
Now the hard part: I have to wait until the Montgomery plant cranks out some black LTDs with the black interior and Nav. My local dealer had no cars with nav, and only had silver and white left in the LTD models.

Does anyone know if the same 2.4L GDI (198-200 hp) is used on any other 2011 Huyndai or KIA models?

I was just thinking the Camry & Accords have 2 door coupes(along w/ the Altima) and all 3 look pretty sharp in thier respective ways. I was just wondering, do you guys think Hyundai will follow suit anytime soon? Would there be a market? Or would it impede on the sales of the Genesis Coupe?? Oh and how about a Sonata cross-over vehicle(Acura ZDX, BMW 550 Gran Turismo, Honda Accord Crosstour, Toyota Venza) just something that made me go hmmmm.
We finally got an '11 here in Seattle-Everett and i must say(from afar) the car looks very nice.
let me know guys

Just noticed today Hyundai Canada updated their website to reflect the new Sonata. To my dismay, many of the nice features that differentiate the regular base model GL to the so called GLS sport model seem to be missing compared to the American model. All Hyundai Canada has to offer on the GLS are 16" alloy rims, some chrome bits on the grille, fog lights, sun roof, and power front seats. while the American SE model gets 18" rims, sports tuned suspension, dual chrome exhaust, paddle shifter, and proximity key which we don't get unless we buy the most expensive limited with nav. And the price/feature difference is quite large too.
No wonder Hyundai Canada been sending Canadian reviewers to California to test drive the American only SE model to make us believe we will be getting something close to what they have in the US, has us Canadians been so gullible? And to top it off the SE model's features will only be available on the turbocharged version probably with $30000+ price tag, I think Hyundai need to think twice on what they're doing as they have lost a potential customer.
I was soo hyped about the sonata too, but even if I was able to import it from the US, Hyundai Canada won't be honouring any warranty what so ever.

I just bought a new '11 Venetian Red SE yesterday. My question is how can I determine which cell phone will be compatable with the Sonata's system. I've seen where not every cell phone will work but nothing to tell me what will work or how to determine what to look for. Any help would be appreciated.
