I own a 2005 Tucson 2.7 V6 and have twice experienced an engine shut down in the past few weeks when making slow turns (either left or right). This happens when I am not accelerating, but either braking when the accelerator is not depressed. I have talked to the dealer and they said that there was nothing in the computer codes to that signify a problem, and seemed to suggest that the problem had something to do with the idle sensors, but to call them if it happened again. Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on?
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone!
We (as my family) have been looking to buy a new Tucson with a 2.0 DOHC (petrol) 2WD engine. There is a sweet deal for those right now in Hungary.
However, I am a bit worried... Can that engine really deal with the weight of the car? For the last 17 years we have had only diesel cars, so the thought of constantly keeping high rpm to keep the car moving does concern me.
If anyone has any experience with this engine, please share.

Thank you!

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and wanted some advice from you guys on buying a used Hyundai Tucson. My girlfriend is interested in buying a used Tucson, ranging in age from somewhere between 05 and 07.
Her main conern is that the mileage is not too high, preferably 30,000 or less. And that she gets reasonable MPG for an SUV. I was talking to the Hyundai dealer today and he told me the difference in MPG between a 4 cylinder and V6 is negligible. Is this true from an owners experience?
She looked at and test drove an 05 GCS V6 model today, with 27,000 on the clock. They were asking for $17,777. Do you think that is a fair price for an SUV of that age and mileage? She ideally wants to spend somewhere between $15k-$18k.
Any advice you can give me would be appreciated. I want to make sure she gets a good vehicle and doesn't get screwed over. Her parents own a Santa Fe, so she's really keen on sticking with Hyundai. Are there any significant problems with the Tucson that are common after time? Are there any things that you all find great about it as owners?
Thanks in advance!

Malfunction Indicator Light came on. I had filled with gas earlier in the day, gas cap was loose, removed it, tighten it but light stays on. I don't know if the cap was the problem or not. Is there some way to reset it? Does it hurt anything to drive it with light on?

Can anyone please help me out PLEASE !!
I bought the Genuine Hyundai Front Guard Part Number E8600-2E 100 and put the fitting instructions somewhere safe.
I know one or two owners have had a Hyundai front guard fitted and wondered if anyone still has the instructions?
I just got my Guard back from the spray shop and now I really need the fixing details for the top and bottom fixings.
Its that usual thing I put my instructions somewhere safe and think they got outed to the binman when my other half had a clearout day.
Hope someone can help. (Can you check to see if your dealer has one and ask that he copy or email me the details as I cannot find a dealer who has one in stock and I know Hyundai's supplier places the fitting instructions in the box)
My direct email is itza.tucson@uwclub.net
Please advise asap as I really want to fit this part.
Cheers
Itza

These 2 vehicles seem to be quite similar in size and purpose. How do you chose between them. Looking at the prices from jacksaysyes.com web site, the SF ranges from $17,100 to 29,400, and thw Tucson from $16,300 to 23,200.
What made you pick one over the other?

Hi, have my 2007 Tucson 2.0CRDi 2wd since May 07. already 35000 kms on it ( yip BIG kms so soon). Just before the last service at 18000 I had the following problem:
Start the car from cold in the morning, go to drive out the gate and im flooring the accelarator and im barely moving, engine is not revving. Bout 500 metres down the road i get power tearing in to the engine and off i go.
Said it to the mechanic and he said it was probably the filter.
Had to bring my car into dealer before its 35000 service as the problem came back and got worse. Engine check light came on and no power for miles. that was almost 2 weeks ago. Hyundai ireland have been contacted to fix the problem but that didnt work. No body any clues how to fix it in the garage.
Anyone ever heard of this???
Garage have given me a span new i30 to spin around in the 1.6 diesel great little car nearly 2000kms up on her now because of me. Great full efficency and power!!!

My local dealer has been pressing me to replace the timing belt on my 2005 Tucson with 72,000 miles on it. Has anyone experienced the need to replace their timing belt? If the belt does fail, would the resulting damage fall under the 100,000 mile coverage?

I have looked through countless posts trying to find anyone else with the same problem but no luck, so does anyone else have a similar problem, or better still an answer.
I use a TomTom Sat Nav system and on 3 other cars the Sat Nav stated speed was very close to the speedometer reading, the speedometer reading no more than a couple of MPH faster than the Sat Nav display.
The Tuscon speedometer reads high across the whole of the range relative to the Sat Nav. As an example, 40mph on the Sat Nav shows just over 45mph on the speedo and 70mph on the Sat Nav shows just under 80mph on the speedo.
Any replies/suggestions appreciated.

For anyone interested here’s my review of the Tucson. Model Feb 06 Diesel Manual "Arizona"
I bought her in August 06 with 22,000km on the clock and went past 46,000 yesterday, so 24,000 km driven by me in one year.
Overall I’ve been very happy with the car and found her tight enough for city manoeuvres and steady at motorway speeds up to 170 km/hr (in parts of Germany where it’s legal…). She takes 5 adults comfortably, good legroom at the back even with the front seats all the way back and I’ve crammed 3 oversize suitcases in the boot at once.
Loads of useful features like the rear seats fold down completely to leave a massive flat loading bed, the extra **** lighters in the rear and boot, or the shopping bag clips in the passenger footwell (I use it to tie back the GPS cable) and in the boot. The cargo net in the boot stops small items from rattling.
I do have some gripes however. The fuel consumption currently reads 7.9litres/100km but I found I can make at best driving (motorway around 130km /hr all the way) almost 800km on 70 litres of diesel.. or closer to 9litres/100km. It sorely lacks a sixth gear but the later model fixes that of course.
Even at low speeds I find the gearbox somehow mis-matched to the car. While most diesels allow you to keep in higher gears at lower speeds, I find I often have to gear down as it can’t pick up speed and starts jerking.
I had test driven an automatic and once I got used to it found it lively and responsive but I can only imagine the fuel consumption would be worse.
The bumpers are very delicate. If you so much as touch something the lacquer scrapes off… I’d expect a bit more from this type of car but then I guess it’s common to all modern cars.
As I started off… overall I’m very happy with her, I’ve had no problems (touch wood) and service her every 15,000 km at Hyundai of course to maintain the warranty (3 years here in Luxembourg). These cost around EUR 300 each time.
I love driving her, even over long distances she remains comfortable… my partner says too comfy as she nods off within minutes of getting in the car
I’d recommend Hyundai, I think they are very good value compared to other marques, especially when you look at equipment levels.
Nice weekend all & safe driving
Steve

My wife and I currently have a 2005 Equinox 3.4l V6 AWD Automatic and while we like the vehicle we will be getting a new SUV this summer. The one we have pretty much decided on is the V6 Tucson 4WD so I have been reading the posts which I find very interesting. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind answering.
There seemed to be a dead battery issue on some models, is it still a problem with the 2008s.
The mileage seems to be a little on the poor side, does it get better with more miles on the car? I know you get better mileage with a standard but my wife won't drive one
Does the AWD make that much of a difference frtm a true 4WD?
We are looking at the Tucson because first of all we like how it looks, the price seems good, I like the 5 year bumper to bumper warrenty, the way it drives and it is a little smaller then the Equinox so it should get better mileage (not necessarily in that order). Gas consumption is a bit of a concern but not the main one
I'd appreciated your comments
Thank You

Hi everyone, first post, unfortunately in regards to some weird stuff with my Tucson.
Proud to say next month my Tucson will be 3 years old and it has been 100% trouble free

Now to my issue(s). I recently had my oil changed, and new tires rotated for the first time after 6k miles. Also about a week ago I used my ebrake for the first time.
This past weekend, I went on a road trip and whenever I stopped at a rest area, I smelled burnt rubber, really strong. Also my gas gauge isn't working. After I fill up, the tank reads 3/4 full.
And just one more thing. Lately in the morning when I back out of my driveway, my rear breaks squeek like crazy, but once I get going, they stop.
So I guess my question is, where do you think the burnt rubber smell is coming from? And should I be worried? Also, anyone else have problems with their gas gauge?
Thanks!

Hi:
I have a 2006 Tucson with the dreaded 'dead battery' issue! If I don't drive the car for 4-5 days the battery dies. I have a very short daily commute (3 miles each way) so the battery may not be fully charging. However, all four times this has happened have been after driving 100 miles to the airport and parking for 4-5 days and I would think the battery would be fully charged after a 100 mile drive.
Dealer has replaced the radio (it was drawing way to much power even with the engine turned off) and given me a new battery. They have checked the entire system twice now (including checking the back hatch latching system) and can find nothing wrong, they say. There's got to be a short somewhere, something is draining this battery! I am dealing with Hyundai corporate to get a buy-back.
In the meantime, I'm thinking of getting one of the Sears Diehard Platinum batteries (800 cca), which are supposed to have very deep cycling. My local car supply store says that it won't solve the problem, but some other 'car guy' friends say that it would at least keep it charged longer.
Any thoughts, anyone??
Other than the *&%$ battery issue, I love my Tucson!
Cheers,
Karin

This will be the 1st coolant change on my 2.0L 05 vehicle and wanted info on anything unique about it. Most cars have only 1 drain, some have 2, found only 1 on the Tucson. Also read somewhere that its best to stay with the Hyundai pre-mix coolant fluid. Why I don't know, same thing with the transmission fluid, so I 'll buy from the dealer. Who takes used coolant fluid nowadays? Pepboys or is it somewhere special unlike most oil recyclers. If anyone has any input on experiences with the coolant change, I'd like to hear about them. Also some vehicles have an air bleed valve at the top of the system, does the Tucson have this or do you just keep checking the fluid level every day and top it off as the air bleeds out?
Thanks

He was a young kid so i am not sure if he had the experience but i asked him if he was the only installer and he said yes... So can it be done? Has it been done and if you did it where did you do it...

I live in the Midwest, Indiana. We don't get much snow at these parts, but I'd say we get an average of 10 snow days or so. We get tons of rain.
Is 4WD something Worth an extra $25 a month for 5 years?
Is it covered by the Hyundai Powertrain warranty?
Also, how does the Tucson's 4WD work? Someone told me that it's not a "true" 4WD vehicle, and if I use it at the wrong time, when I'm cornering or riding on a dry surface with no slippage, I'll break it.
Is the Tucson's 4WD good for going up hill when you got a heavy load in the trunk?

i'm a korean as u can tell by the username, i've owned few hyundais and sold them in the past
being familiar with the beta engines, I know they can take some boost without an issue.
now, with the 2.0gas AWD models, can you turbo it without ruining the 5spd tranny or the AWD drive train?
I always thought about this and just beginning to ask questions. because turbo AWD SUV would be niceeeee
I drove the 2.0VGT model in Korea this past summer... I WANT CRDi engine in US so bad. The power delivery is much better than the 2.7l V6. They need to bring EVERY small diesel engines in the US. they'll sell like hot cakes! but i also know diesels require much more attention to details which most americans lack so it'll all blow up in first year lol BUT for people like me... they need to have em lol If i had the money I'd bring one here but I don't

Hi All,
This is the first time I have posted here. I have an Elite and have been really happy with it. I have recently had a problem playing CD's on it. I have read the instruction manual and it lists what the error's are . For example the error 4 is "servo" "disc data error or servo error" I haven't changed the type of cd's I am playing, and I cannot find anywhere to let me know what a "servo" is.
It is probably something really simple but at the moment husband is in Afghanistan and I don't want to contact him saying "help I need to play CD's to drown out the sound of the kids fighting !!!"
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Amanda.

The latest TrueDelta Vehicle Reliability Survey results have been posted. These are for the year ending September 30, 2007.
For the 2005 Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage, I have an average of 8.2 months of data on 33 cars. The stat of 18 successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year (0.2 per vehicle) is better than average for a 2005 model, especially considering this was the first year.
For the 2006 Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage, I have an average of 9.1 months of data on 29 cars. The stat of 23 successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year (0.2 per vehicle) is better than average for a 2006 model.
There haven't been enough responses for the 2007 to post a result.
Everyone who has been helping out with this research, thanks. Those who aren't yet helping out, please consider doing so. 2007s and 2008s especially needed.

Wife picked up our 2006 tucson on monday morning. Went out earlier to look under the bonett to see what bhp my engine is (see "confused about bhp"). Some nice bar steward has keyed the bonett and the top of the drives side wing (here it looks like they were trying to play noughts and crosses). Senseless.

2005 Tucson
during heavy rain, passenger side gets soaked.
must also leak during lighter rain because the air handler (hot, cold, fresh, recirc) has an awful mildew and mold smell.
saw a comment here but nothing as specific as a TSB.
anyone else have good info to track this down and get it resolved?
thanks

Hi,
Have just bought a Tucson and it used to be a rep car and has done 21K miles.
Problem is that i do not have the owners manual or service book.
Its not a problem about the service as i have checked with Hyundai and it is on there database as being up to date with its service history.
Does anyone know where in the UK i can get hold of a new wallet with the manual and hopefully the service book? Do i ask Hyundai themselves?
Also the car is a 2litre petrol 2wd manual and seems quite spluttery is this normal? or is it likely that its needing a service?
Thanks

Hello everyone.
I found this forum after I took the plunge yesterday and signed on the dotted line for a 2006 Tucson CRTD CDX. I've picked it up from a dealer in wokingham for 10250 plus 250 for towbar and 349 for parking sensors to be fitted making total price 10849 which I'm chuffed about as its only got 6k on the clock and balance of warranty.
Having had a glance thru the forums it looks like theres a lot of info available here.
Anyway, hello again.

Hi all.. I have not posted in this section yet, even though my wife has had her 07 Tucson a bit long than I have had my 06 Sonata.. She loves the Tucson even though she wishes it had a bit more power (still has more than her last car though, a 91 Cavalier).. Still quite an upgrade from the Cav though...
The one question I had was if anyone knows where I can find an electronic copy of the 07 Tucson Owner's Manual... I have one for my Sonata, but have had trouble finding one for the Tucson... (the US version)...
Thanks

Has anyone out there had the problem of the auto dip rear view mirror failing.
As there is no way of manually preventing dazzle, it is causing real problems as the nights are getting darker earlier. As the compass still operates correctly I'm pretty sure it's not a blown fuse.
Any ideas?
