wacky idiot lights

Hi guys and gals,

I was hoping I could get some help with an issue I've had with our 2007 Entourage. We bought it used in 2011 with 57k miles on it in the summer. In the coming winter, we were driving on snowy roads and had to stop. ABS kicked in because we were on a slight downhill grade. No big deal. But, right after the ABS kicked on, 3 separate dash lights came on and have stayed on ever since, ABS, ESC OFF, and AIR BAG. The van still drives fine. The ABS did stop working and so did the ESC. I'm assuming the Air bags don't either. My father in law owns an auto repair shop and he hooked his Snap On scanner up to it and it determined the problem was an abs sensor. I replaced it but that didn't help. We haven't made it a priority since the van still drives great. I guess this is just more out of curiosity. If it is a simple fix, then maybe I can get it done. If it's expensive, then not. Any ideas or help are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

These bonus systems are sketchy at best and only last so many miles before they malfunction and throw the idiot lights... back in the day it was a miracle if a car itself made it to 100,000 miles.. so its expected that ABS, airbag systems, TPMS, traction control break at 60,000 miles or more.. nothing lasts forever...

I nominate that for the most useful answer ever offered on this forum!

There was a "campaign" from Hyundai for your vintage Entourage that involved rust in the brake lights.

Best bet is take it to a dealer, see if the brake light fix has been done, and also check to see if the brake switch is OK (does the cruise operate, or not turn off when you press the brake pedal?), and have the vehicle scanned (my dealer is $59 for code scanning, others gouge you $100 or more)

If you could, come back and tell us what they found. Lots of people have complained of this but no one has offered any specific resolutions!

Another issue could be a failing alternator or bad grounds, esp the main ground from the battery.

I should add in lots of cases the rusty brake light repair resolved the 3-idiot-light problem.

If replacing the sensor didn't work then did you have the tone ring cleaned off?
Does the ESC have an on/off switch?

Even though the vehicle still drives well, it may not pass the state's safety inspection with these warning lights on
If your father in law has a snap on scanner then he should be able to see live data
Maybe see if there is any signal coming from the ABS sensor?
Can the scanner see if the ESC is on or not (just to make sure the warning lights aren't false)

Air bags ... don't know enough to say anything
