Well I guess it will be a while longer before I hear about any solutions to replacing the factory unit with an aftermarket head unit and keeping the overhead DVD player...

The DVD player will still work, but the sound will only be heard through the wireless headphones. Unless you decide to wire in the DVD using the aux inputs on the new head unit.

I upgraded mine years ago with a Pioneer unit, but never had a need to wire in the DVD - headphones were fine for the kids while I listened to something else on the radio.

I know this thread is old, but I'm going to attempt this in my 2007 Entourage this weekend. I am installing a Sony XAV-W650BT. I am armed with the complete set of factory service manuals including the electrical schematics with pin-out and wire colors.

My plan of attack to bring this to 2016 standards is:
1. Wire in a back-up camera
2. Hook up the video/audio out from the Sony head unit to the AUX input for the DVD system (so I can play DVD's or digital media)
3. Hook up the audio out from the factory DVD player to the rear RCA AUX input on the Sony head unit
4. Wire the BT mic up the drivers A-pillar (being careful of the airbag) and install between the sun visor/overhead console.
5. Use a Steering wheel adapter to retain volume/source controls.

The only issue I see is the volume buttons on the DVD player will not function because I would need to purchase another steering wheel adapter and figure out how to wire them up together.

Well, I got it installed. It works mostly to my expectations. The steering wheel controller does not work with this combination and the amp uses low-level inputs instead of high-level as Metra & Crutchfield assumed. Once I get it all figured out I'll create a write-up and post it here.

Hi Shadetreejake,

I am assuming you have the Infinity system with the AMP in the back. So can you tell me on the AUDIO wiriing schematic the AMP/EQ-SEL pin is the power to the AMP? Do you know if there is a way to activate the Surround pin out as default?

Thanks
