Can the 2017 sport hands free calling operate without the radio being ON

I am sure my 2012 would operate (take or make) a call without the radio actually being on.

My friend who still has his 2012 Santa fe, tried his system.

With the radio OFF he initiated a phone call by pressing the call button the radio turned on, he made the call using voice, after the call ended the radio turned off.

Also when receiving a call when pressing the answer button he managed to use the hands free system.

My 2017 Santa Fe, will not initiate or answer a call using hands free with the radio in the off position, at least I haven't found a way of doing it.

2015 SFS radio must be on. Pressing the call button will not turn the radio on. My wife's 2017 is not ehre to test but I am 90% sure that the radio must be on to initiate a hands free call.

I was at the dealer this morning and tried my old santa fe and it didnt either, sure it was when I had it, but there wasnt a phone paired to it.

I guess I shall use my GPS for hands free, I very seldom have the radio on

Just tried my 2017 SFS 2.0 Ultimate and I can confirm that the Hands Free will start with the radio off.

It will not start if the rear camera or front camera is on screen at the time. The vehicle needs to be in park or moving past the camera cut off speed.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does help..... my sanity at least.

Today I was parking the car in a lot, the radio off and I received a call, the hands free system worked as I thought it should, but still will not initiate a call out.

I was at the dealer today, and the manager paired his cell phone to my previous 2012 Santa Fe and the system worked as I described, press the voice button with the radio off an could make a hands free call out with the radio in the off position IGN on of course.

we tried another 2017 model and the same problem occurred, could not make a hands free call out without the radio being on.

Why they would remove that option I have no idea unless it was an over sight.

Had I realized prior to purchasing I would not have bought it.

It is a possible safety issue

This sounds really weird to me.

I just tried my 2017 AWD Santa Fe Sport - popular and premium packages - thus has the 7" display with Android Auto capability.

Radio off - head unit still on, just says "A/V off". Press steering wheel voice activation - works both with phone connected (via USB cable) in AA mode - meaning that the call is initiated via google voice command, as well as with phone only connected via bluetooth - meaning that it worked with Hyundai voice commands, going to the standard phone interface choosing a phone contact.

So, then I re-read the OP - I was using the voice activation, not the call button. Back to the vehicle. Start up, turn off radio. Use call button - pops up the call menu, and calls. Ok, maybe I should turn on the car with the radio already off. Do that, press call button, menu pops up, calls.

I can't seem to not make a call, and others can't seem to make one?!? What's up with that? Do you have the newest firmware/software downloaded? Interestingly, after I got my car, myhyundai said there was a software update - I downloaded it, but found out my software on the head unit was newer than the update.

My software version is AN.USA.0000.V074.160616, firmware AN.USA.216.160427.MICOM.D - the available software version online was AN.USA.0000.V073.160416
