Coming From a Camaro SS to the 2.0T its a pretty steep decrease in HP but whatever i had to do it because of my daughter arriving into this world, but would like to know if they can be Tuned in any way to get some extra Horses outta the Turbo Fe's? if so what kinda tune did you do and if not than O well :(
Thanks for your time!:grin2:

I have just one question for you:

WHAT THE HELK DID YOU DO THAT FOR?!?!?!?! >:D

No way to keep the SS, eh? Ah, well.

As for the Santa Fe, my best advice would be to just enjoy it the way it is. Good luck. And congrats on the new daughter. Tomorrow you bring her home from the hospital, a week after that you park a baseball bat by the door, and the week after that you answer "I do" when the minister says "Who offers this woman for marriage?"

:D

At least you're going to a 2.0 turbo. Try going from a hair or two over 11 second, street legal Z28 with a full 12-point roll cage I built myself to a 1.8L Elantra - I'm dying here....

Very little you can do to tune your new ride. I've never been a big fan in this department. These cars weren't designed for it from the get-go, nor is there much you can gain by tweaking the ECU, in my opinion. It's like chasing after the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I think it would be a better bet putting money into a jar every month until you could buy yourself another SS or something similar....or better yet, a COLLEGE FUND!!

Hi Steve,

There are several tunes out for the 2.0T in the Sonata and Optima with the same engine. There are also some piggyback options available.
Require use of 91 octane, colder plugs and oil catch cans as they raise turbo boost by 3 psi. Most give around 30 more hp to the rear wheels. Been running tune on the Optima for over 30 months. Big difference in drive as this is around 17% more rear wheel HP over stock.

Let me know if you need some links to options.

I thought those models are FWD. or was part of the "tune" diverting power somehow to the rear wheels ?

I wouldn't...

These engines have plastic Valve covers (I'll bet they also have plastic turbines) and are not over engineered like the old 1.8T engines that VW used to make. Those engines were spec'd as low as 170HP but could handle 300HP in stock configuration with nothing more than a bigger turbo and the proper diverter valve to re-direct the boost. Once the sludge issue was dealt with and rectified the 1.8T's were bomb proof. Amazing little engines.

You want the plastic valve covers to match the plastic "skid plates" under the car, for protection above and below the engine.

Plastic valve covers are nothing new - Ford, Mazda and esp Honda have used these for some time. Better than sheet metal but not as good as aluminum used on better makes - like my Saab.

I think the Mitsu TD04 series are metal vane turbos, sometime back I recall reading about ceramic turbos but don't think they are ready for prime time.

I doubt that adding 30 additional HP to the Hyundai 2.0T will cause it's demise - as you probably know it's not tuned to be a high performance engine despite it's peak ratings.

First website review was may 20 2015. How impartial are these reviews? If I wanted to do this I'd wait a few years before buying to see what the real testimonies are from an impartial review database, not from the company's website. Be patient guys, a blown engine is more expensive than this chipping thing. I did it for my 1.8t but I chose a modest remapping solution that focused more on balance than power. I was more interested in getting more power out of the car SAFELY than having to worry about what it was doing to my engine.
