Rodent will get into any car.. our old Svc Mgr son had a GM SUV that rodents (they said squirrel, as they came eye to eye with it under hood) destroyed wire harness on engine, and went to trans also.. former GM Master in shop got that project.. we had a Sonata (YF) that got harness destroyed, and clogged up the HVAC fresh air inlet above the HVAC filter with large insulation ball, stuck almost out opening into cowl area
Yes they do. Under the seats in the car, in the trunk and under the engine cover. We had a problem with a couple of cars in storage for 4 months in a garage. Since the softener sheets, no problem at all.
They do more than that. I used to drive my daughter to school every morning in South Florida and see the same woman jogging along side a canal near a park. This went on for months, until one day I didn't see her anymore. I mentioned it to my wife at the time, then we read in the paper she was missing. Turns out she was dragged into the canal and partially eaten by an alligator. Very sad.
last year i had rodent chewed up my wire harness, knock sensor and the engine cover on my santa fe v6 2013. Total damage was $4500 bucks. The wire hareness is expensive.
Parts dept happy with retail sale of wire harness, tech has customer pay job, provided it not an insurance job where insurance dictate they pay below wholesale labor time..
Thank goodness it was covered by insurance. 12 hour labour charged i believe. Had to wait for main engine wire hareness for a month to come from korea.
Apparently (from what I have been told) the pigments in some of the wire coatings are derived from nuts or fruits or something that rodents eat in nature. They can smell it in the wires and that's why they chew them.
Seen that a great many times at our GM Dealership. Worst cases are when you have it repaired but do not catch the rodent and a week later you have the same expensive repair to do over again....
As my wife tells the customers at the Hyundai store. If it is Monday it must be Hyundai !! it has never been Munday or Hundai just saying what the Hyundai rep tells new employees.
Found rat droppings in the engine compartment of my wife's Prius V this past weekend, no damage as of yet. Does not bode well for me if the cables are lined with rat "crack"
