Hyundai scored 12 spots higher on a list of 28 companies which IMHO is a significant difference. And, Hyundai is trending up 8 spots from last year while the Jeep Cherokee dropped 4 spots from near bottom feeder to bottom feeder with only FIAT below it.... I know, I'm starting to sound like a cheer leader.

Agree with you, not the best but that's not a bad position, pretty close to the 7 above and trending up...

There’s a couple of things I don't get though, why would the body integrity and body hardware be different on the 2.0T model, all those things are pretty much the same, maybe the yanks with the extra power in the engine aggravate it?, also why is the general reliability just average when every individual item rates so well? Not sure what that means…

All (new) cars have problems. Manufacturers are tweaking requirements for profit. So if 1% of the engines might fail but they can safe 2% then they will do that.

Also a recall is expensive so they will just sit back and wait until customers come back with failed engines (or other things) or perhaps the manufacturer is lucky and the defect isn't disputed or outside the warranty or the car has already been re-sold and thus also out of factory warranty.

It's a big business.

Recall campaigns only happen for generally two main reasons, A) It's a safety concern B) the cost of treating individual claims begin to exceed the cost of a campaign, which can be more organized and dealerships trained on how to handle it, parts inventories aligned, etc.

Key thing to remember is that a lot of these studies can be based on the fact that unhappy people complain and happy people don't say much.
