USB not working from factory?

Howdy,

We just picked up a 2013 Santa Fe 2.0T w/ the premium and tech.

Bluetooth audio works great, but it seems the USB doesn't work in any capacity. I have tried an iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS connected to the USB port with a standard iPhone cable and the iPod option is not selectable from the media menu. I have tried this independent of the Bluetooth devices being enabled and still no joy.

I then tried 2 different properly formatted 16 GB USB drives and they are also not selectable from the media menu. Both drives also won't display any onboard activity lights when connected.

Is that a light next to the port that will light up?

Has anyone had this problem?

What is the recommended course of action?

I can concur that I have also had problems trying to use the USB port in my Santa Fe. I tried plugging my Galaxy S3 into it, and I get some kind of a message that it is not supported. As far as Apple products, I do know that Hyundai has a cable where one end not only plugs into the USB port of the car, but it simultaneously plugs into the aux jack, as well. I believe it works when using this kind of cable.

On a "related" note, I was wondering if anyone was having issues with using bluetooth to stream audio. My bluetooth streaming from my phone works well; however, it never transmits the song info (song name and artist) to the touch screen on my nav system. That is fine with me, but the other day I noticed for the first time when streaming music that a song title and artist name was being displayed. It was not of the song that was playing at the moment, but it was a song that is on my phone. Now, no matter what song I am streaming it is displaying only that one song info.

I cannot get it off of the screen. I deleted the phone from the car and unpaired the phone. When I set it back up again, that one song displayed, again, on the screen. Anyone know how to get rid of it?

There was a thread a while back on whether the Hyundai iPod cable was necessary on the 2013 Santa Fe. My experience has been that it is not. I've been able to play music and charge, using the stock Apple cable, an iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPod Nano 3rd gen. I believe some Apple devices have been reported to not function properly. So, I guess, it depends on your Apple device.

I was assuming that was the case with the 2013's, but I haven't had any luck with my supported Apple devices.

It still doesn't account for the USB drives also not working or showing any activity.

On the lower outside corners of the port there seems to be a light, does that light up for everyone else?

That's strange. I stream music from my phone all the time using Bluetooth, and it has never shown a single song title.

I was told by someone at Crutchfield that iPhones will not send song info via Bluetooth, but Android phones will. I've never had an Android phone, so I can't say for sure. I do know iphones don't.

Very sorry to hear about anyone having issues with things not working properly on a new car. I know..... That's the last thing you'd expect.

I use the Apple cable as well with the iPod without any issues.

In fact, I believe it says in the manual to use the apple cable that came with your device.

Make sure the external drives are formatted in FAT
(It states that in the manual and does not read NTFS format.

Hope that helps in some way.

I formatted the flash drive in FAT32 per the users manual and tried a few more Apple devices to no avail.

I made an appointment with the service center for later this week, but they are already convinced I need an aux/USB cable contrary to the manual.

Let's hope that something is simply not connected behind the paneling and they don't make a mess pulling it apart.

Ugh.
