My Santa Fe was delivered to a Kentucky dealer. It was transfered to a Ohio dealer who sold it to me. Front plates are not used in KY, but they are in OH. Question is where do I put the plate? There are no holes are anything in the front.
I want to say there might have been a bracket in the car soewhere when it arrived at dealer.. look under the floor panel in the rear storage area to see if it got put away to stay with car..
Look at front bumper cover closely, use plate as guide, see if there is 2 small dimple molded into the bumper cover that match plate hole spacing.
I PDI one here about a month ago, but was instructed not to put anything on the front,, seems to me there was bracket in rear of car at the time.
The bracket installs on the black plastic part of the bumper. Not the painted surface, but just under there. If you look close enough you'll see 3 dimples in the black mesh looking part that the bracket screws into.
If you look at the back of the mount, you will see two, laterally oriented, cylindrical receptacles for screws, but the axis of the screw receptacle does not penetrate thru the outer surface. The screw receptacles are intended to allow the mounting of a license plate adaptor. Use a small drill bit that fits the ID of the screw receptacle and drill thru the outer surface of the mount. Now, when you install the mount as Ace describes, you have access to the plate adaptor mounting screw receptacles.
I couldn't figure this thing out either, but the maintenance chief at the local Hyundai dealer showed me how it was designed. There aren't any instructions.
I think they are just self tapping screws that go into the dimples in the front bumper to mount the bracket. Then you would just mount the late using the top two holes on the plate.
Not sure I even want to do this but I kind of like the long ones that say Santa Fe but cannot seem to find them any where for sale?
I don't have to use a front plate in my state (Alabama), but I have always had a Florida State Seminole tag on the front of my car. I found the bracket in the "trunk" and looked at it very carefully. This one is just another one of those things that is just DUMB! The bracket is just an idiotic design. It has no dimples to show were to drill to mount the bracket, I had to drill from the inside to the outside of the bracket and then the holes that mount to the bumper are too long and it just makes the tag "flop" around on the bumper. It is really a poor design and requires that you have to drill your own holes into your brand new vehicle. I didn't find a dimple anywhere to guide me. I am taking it to my dealers service department Monday and see if they can do it for me. Since I just gave them $25,000 for my Santa Fe, we'll see how good their service is.
The bracket mounts in the honeycomb section directly under the painted section. There are indeed dimples where the screws go. Just place the bracket in the center of the section. Then remove it and look where the holes were you'll see the domples.
I did the same thing. I bought mine in MD, but registered it in NC. I had them take it out and I was surprised it came off so quickly and didn't leave 2 holes visible like on the Sonata.

Does anyone know what you are screwing into behind front bumper.is it just the plastic or do you hit some metal.im looking for a place for a tie down for a kayak and if there is metal behind I figure I could rig something to lic plate screw.

The front license plate holder only screws into plastic. Try anchoring your Kayak through the outermost bottom grill 5 vertical supports instead. The bigger the triangle the more support it will have. Stop tightening the rope or strap if those vertical supports start to bow out at all. If you use strap or webbing, remember to add some twists (3-6) above the hood section to remove any humming from the air flow.
I found my front plate mount in the trunk of my Santa Fe...seems pretty clear how to mount it. A couple of questions. Is it meant to be centered...it seems as if it would mount off to the side. Also is there a another piece to which to attach the license plate or does it screw right to the plastic bracket?
Thank you!...looks like I need to pay a visit to the dealer.
Jim
