According to a post on Reddit, an update is rolling out which adds Apple CarPlay to the 2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport. Here's the full list:

2015-2016 Sonata
2015-2016 Genesis (excludes Premium 9.2" Navigation system)
2016 Tucson
2017 Santa Fe Sport
2017 Santa Fe
2016 Elantra GT

It hasn't shown up for me personally, but others on Reddit say they see it by checking their Alerts on the owner site. I haven't seen a confirmed report of someone specifically with a Santa Fe downloading the update yet, but this sounds promising!

- Log in to your MyHyundai account
- Hover on "My Account" near the top and click "Alerts"
- If it's rolled out to you, you should see an alert for it dated 5/25 (or later if this is a multi-day rollout).

I've been lurking for a little while (just bought my 2017 last week), and I just registered today so I can't paste the actual link, but the reddit post where I saw this is at reddit dot com /r/Hyundai/comments/4kxpsp/hyundai_releases_software_update_to_expand

[Edit]
Just noticed on hyundaiusa dot com /MyHyundai/manuals-and-how-tos/faqs down in the "Apple CarPlay" section:

"CarPlay is already available in the 2016 Sonata and 2017 Elantra. CarPlay is also available for the following existing models. Some models will require a software update to enable CarPlay.
-2015 Sonata with Navigation
-2016 Sonata with Navigation
-2016 Sonata with the seven-inch touchscreen display
-2015 Genesis with the eight-inch touchscreen Navigation system with rearview camera
-2016 Genesis with the eight-inch touchscreen Navigation system with rearview camera
-2016 Elantra GT with Navigation
-2016 Tucson with Navigation
-2017 Santa Fe with the seven-inch touchscreen display
-2017 Santa Fe with Navigation
-2017 Santa Fe Sport with the seven-inch touchscreen display
-2017 Santa Fe Sport with Navigation

Great news! Checked my alerts and nothing is there yet.

Side note: Now I just hope that some miracle is performed and Waze is added to CarPlay. It's not a seamless experience using CarPlay for Spotify simultaneously with Waze on my iPhone in my other vehicle.

So after playing with it for a few days, I guess I didn't fully understand how CarPlay works.

I use Waze for my navigation. Nothing will ever switch me to the onboard nav or anything else because the crowd sourced alerts for traffic, police, etc., are just way too valuable for me.

What I learned pretty quick is that CarPlay is treated as it's own audio source to the car. Basically, if I have my phone connected via CarPlay and I have Waze running, I can't listen to XM Radio at the same time. That pretty much makes it a nonstarter for me, and I'll just use Siri eyes-free (which is how I thought CarPlay would work, connected in the background but not taking over everything). Am I missing something?

I am in the same boat with my GTI and now the SF. Until they add Waze, it's almost not worth it. What works great is Spotify and Siri with text messages incoming and outgoing, but if you depend on Waze, you are absolutely correct. I don't have NAV in the GTI and it seems that in the Santa Fe, even with factory NAV it might be an issue while using CarPlay but I haven't tried that yet.

That's a bunch of BS. Just keep checking. I'd say if it wasn't there in a week or so, use the "Contact Us" link on the myhyundai site and ask for help. If it's free to DIY and not working, there should be no charge to have help. For mine it was clear because when I went to the downloads page it was empty, blank. Then I saw this when it was available, but had to manually check "Downloads" not the alert that it was available.

Last night I installed CarPlay. Was real easy to do. Plugged in a usb stick on laptop, followed instructions. Took about 1/2 hour to load on usb. Put usb in SFS, it downloaded both CarPlay and android. Took about another 1/2 hour. Plugged iPhone in to USB port and there CarPlay showed up. Haven't done much with it yet. But is was very easy to do by myself.

I can share them if you have the same system as I do. I have the 2017 SE Ult. with Tech pkg. Not sure if our head units are the same or not, but happy to share.

EDIT: Okay so I can send you the initial file that is needed to run the software that then downloads directly to your SD card, but can't download the software otherwise. I tried on three different flash drives and don't have that. Want the initial file? I use a Mac so it is a .dmg file.

I shared the .DMG that initiates the file downloads via PM to someone that requested but haven't heard anything since. You are welcome to download and run it (It's a Mac DMG, not for PC). Instructions called for putting your SD Card in your computer then running this file. Do so at your own risk. This is the file generated for my 2017 Santa Fe SE Ultimate with Tech Pkg. Also worth noting is the download for me was only about 1GB; i've seen others claim 20GB so I think they may have required much more of an update than from the more recent models.

I personally am not using Car Play. I am unable to disable it when my phone is connected, even when I go into the settings on my phone and selected disable car play. Annoying as **** when I want to switch Apps. Car Play always kicks in and interrupts the radio. I'll probably erase the file and put Android back on the card.

Just got the file from a kind forum member and it worked! Can confirm that it’s not VIN specific.

If anyone needs it just PM me, it’s only 1.5mb (the file is an installer than downloads the update directly to your memory card).

CarPlay is great!

yay! could you share a link, say via: uploadfiles.io
& post the link here?

(i've tried to PM you, but i'm too new :(
