Since i bought this santa fe i noticed that mostly with a cold start that the transmission kind of hangs up for a second when shifting from 1st to 2nd. It hasnt got worse so i havent worried about it much but since im here i might as well ask if anyone else has noticed this?

Does anyone have a way to check if there is any pcm or tcm update for my car if you searched by vin.

also wanted to let anyone that I am a Chrysler Tech so if you have any Chrysler products with issues im willing to help out.

There was a shift issue covered by 08-AT-003 that dealt with delayed or harsh upshift or downshift. Attaching that here for you, though it's probably not related to your specific complaint. Diagnosis is only via Hyundai equipment, and while driving the vehicle.

That's all there is. It's a solid little transmission. You should, of course, give a local dealer the VIN to be sure any other updates have been applied (e.g., brake switch, clock spring for air bags, etc.)
If you had an early build 2010 6 speed, that would be another story!

How 'cold' is 'cold', and what kind of miles on it now? General condition of fluid?

i asked the advisor when i brought it in for the alternator/valve cover recall if they could check for any updates but he said he would have to charge at least a .5 just to check so i said forget it. he never mentioned just checking the vin. i would assume if that was possible he would have done it himself. i know i can do that kind of thing with chrysler. i would also assume they would have told me about any outstanding recalls when i had it there which they didnt.

id say not very cold. it'll do it on a cool summer morning +16C ( forgive me, im canadian ) and down to -15C. its usually the first couple 1-2 shifts. just kind of hangs for a second then shifts. ive owned it since 2013 and its done it since without any change.
fluid was changed when i bought it using a BG trans flush machine myself. unfortunately i also used BG tranmission fluid. im pretty big on using OE fluid but im also pretty cheap. it did the shift before i did that though.

17x xxx KM so about 105k miles.

If a dealer asks for a single penny to determine whether or not mandatory recalls have been performed on a vehicle ... well, besides the obvious task of finding another dealer, I'd report him to whatever passes for an equivalent to our NTSB or NHTSA up there, then Hyundai Canada (not that the latter ever does much, it seems). That kind of behavior ought to be criminal, if it isn't already! Checking one gets him the other, so it's not like it's costing him any additional time. Yes, it's all accomplished by VIN at Hyundai as well. Jerk.

Which BG tranny fluid did you use? I use their 44K cleaner through fuel rails, but that's about all. Does the stuff you used claim to be SP-III spec compatible? I know that their LV synthetic claims to be SP-IV compatible.

Sorry if my reply was confusing. But they didn't want to charge to check the vin for recalls. They wanted to charge to check for pcm or TCM updates. I can understand it as I'm a tech but it wasn't worth the half hour to check for a possible update to me.

I've only got one dealer near me so I can't try others.

Not sure what fluid I used but it looked like this.

You can call a dealer or Hyundai customer service. Either will/can tell you if any recalls are outstanding. All this over the phone. I did when I got mine. I had to call the dealer to have them register the vehicle under my name (being the new owner). They told me there were no outstanding recalls. Dealer the same when I asked them about something.

PCM and other updates, yeah go in and pay (for checking and updating software if any they're going to charge you)

My engine and tranny seemed to be all ok so I did not opt for the software check update either. Once the dealer quoted .5hr on the phone and once when at the desk I asked and was told by another rep 1hr. LOL I kept my money and did not buy anything from them.

I've had my fluid done by the Dealer I bought it from did it and I did a drain and fill last summer using Castrol's SPIII approved synthetic fluid. I happen to check the level yesterday after an oil change and its real Red. But thats one fluid you want to be right bang on. Cheap don't cut it if you loose the transmission due to the wrong one in it.
