Clunk noise when speed change

Hello there!
I'm new at this forum and already did a very extensive search on the problem I'm having on my Santa Fe but no luck... Maybe someone here can help me out!

So, my Santa Fe is doing a pop sound, like a clunk, when I increase or decrease the speed. It is just one time noise every time the speed changes. Like when the "gravity center" changes from the car front to rear or vice-versa.

I notice already that doesn't happen when it's shifting, neither when I go over a speed bump.

It happens in all gears, but is more noticeable up to the 4th gear.

Also, usually I can hear this noise, a little bit lower, when I'm stopped and change the gear from P to R ou vice-versa.

My Santa Fe is a 2011 model with 70K kilometres

By any chance someone have experienced on something like that already?

Thanks!
Nuno

In very general terms, it sounds like some coupling, CV , drive shaft, is worn and when the load shifts from acceleration to deceleration and visa versa the coupling bangs as the load shifts to the other side. Our resident expert, Canderson should read your post soon and have a more informed idea.

I seem to recall a washer between outer CV face and wheel bearing... I'd have to go back and hit TSB's,

Yours is dated 2006 -- been supercede a few times,,, yours calls a "010" plastic washer...

Mine is dated 2012, and calls a newer part number, which I want to say is a revised part from plastic to steel (I would have to see if we actually have a set on hand,, give me something to do this week)

Yeah, like I say, what I had handy. Superseded not only for P/N but lots of additional models and model years. Makes you wonder why they didn't learn the lesson back in '07!

Yes, 51755-2B010 is the old part. 51755-2B020-FFF you called out is the new version.

I talked to my dealer about a clunk I have and mention that washer. It has nothing to do with it according to them. Something worn somewhere but at this millage it shouldn't happen unless in rear AWD coupler but they're suppose to be solid trouble free in this series to 09 anyway. I gave up looking.

Click - clunck sound at front when shift load direction at front point to washers

Coupler usually seen as a take off from stop and then a kick-clunk in rear when getting going

This noise i'm refering to is definitely in front and close to the wheels. Also happens only when load shifts direction. Runnig or stopped.

A simple take off from stop doesn't make any clunck noise! Btw, my SF is 11 in Brazil, but I beleive to be the early 2010 model in US. It is the first generation with 3.5L engine and 6-speed gearbox.

It really looks like the description I saw in both TSBs about the washer! I'll update you guys tomorrow or the day after tomorrow!

Thanks again for your precious help!!!

Hmm, maybe I should replace mine. They aren't expensive as I recall. But I think a spring job. I'll have to look at the difficulty factor having struggled with pulling the rear bearing to insert a new wheel lug was a horrible experience. Maybe there is a different part for the 2008 (mine was built in 2007)
