My 2012 (new) did not come with a block heater -- I asked about it and was told there was an optional one for about (if I remember right) $235 Cdn$$$. This is pretty pricey. The salesperson said few people get the option, especially if they have the 2.4L engine. Scroll forward to 2016 and I have never needed it -- just finished some nights in the -30C range in the Ottawa valley and the SantaFe started just fine - not even a protest. I have had numerous days/nights in the -25C to -38C range over the last 3-4 years and not once did the SantaFe fail to start. Just my 2 cents ......
