07 SF-Brake light switch testing

None of my brakes lights work. I had this problem a while back, but it resolved itself.

I pulled the switch to test it. I was hoping to find 2 poles, but there are 4. Anyone know which ones I should test for continuity?

Have you checked your fuses? The STOP LP fuse in the dash fusebox?

Rather than do a continuity test on the switch, why not just bridge the two brake light terminals with a bit of wire (paper clip) and see if the lights come on when the terminals are bridged. That way your not having to faf about with a multimeter trying to hold probes onto pins and press the pedal. If the lights light up then the switch is faulty and no need to test it.

The wires for the brake lights are the blue (12V supply from the STOP LP fuse) and the green/black (output to lamps).

Actually, it is 2 pole -- it's called a '2 pole single throw'. Two simple on/off switches in parallel, but here's the trick when checking ... one side is normally closed, and one side is normally open.

Pins 1/2 (white and green/black wires), continuity with brake pedal depressed (releasing button mechanism)
Pins 3/4 (gray and blue/black + another that depends upon engine type), continuity with brake pedal released (holding button mechanism in place)

FWIW, I'm surprised you're not having other symptoms if your switch is the problem ... like not being able to move the shifter! It could well be another issue.

Has this vehicle ever had the dealer recall applied that replaces the brake switch with a new design?

As for the above, BTW... one side (the one with white and green/black wires) actually powers the brake lights. The other side is signal data to the PCM and shifter lockout.

I ended up replacing the brake light switch and they now work.

As a side note, over the last year, I've had intermittent problems with the ESC OFF light coming on and the cruise control not setting. After replacing the switch, both problems have resolved and not returned.

Will the faulty brake light switch cause the CEL to come on? I know it throws a code.

IIRC, there were even two different recalls that cover the '07 Santa Fe for this, with an expanded list for the 2nd.

09V122000
and more recently
13V113000 (Campaign 110)

Your local dealer will be able to check your VIN against any work done under either of those recalls. If it hasn't been replaced, they'll take care of it for you.

Recall 092 was yrs ago,, they all got small switch with grey connector box.... they still burning up..

Now we have the 110 recall,, 2 different switch used for this recall,, 1 has a grey box, the other is blue box.. depend on production date and engine with minor over lap.. you can easily ID the new stylw 110 recall switch via the laser engraved square digital camo emblem that you can read with smart phone (forgive for not knowing what that square jibberish thing is)

Send VIN, I can run Monday and verify no open 110 recall,,, that been couple yr now, though some straggler out there
