Front dome light not working when doors open

Before you all say it, yes I have made sure that the "door" button has been pushed. The front done light will work when I turn on the individual map lights. However when I open the front doors they no longer automatically come on. I am going to bring it to the dealer ( I am assuming it is a faulty "door" switch) just wanted to see what you all thought before I bring it to them.

For the early 2007 Santa Fe with no diode, from what I can understand, a new console is needed:
00305-92800-J9SR (Grey with Sunroof)? All of the 2007 SF are out of warranty now. So are we out of luck in Canada?

I'm in northern Alberta and this wasn't an issue in the spring and summer but now in the fall it is annoying.

Thanks

All the usual stuff. Front maps lights only come on manually and not when doors open. Rear dome lights are fine. I took apart the map light console and didn't find a diode like every one else with a early 2007.

What is involved with this repair?

I might explore other alternatives like brighter rear dome lights, foot well led strips...

Thanks
Rice

Call around to the local dealers to see if any of them have a 00305-92800-J9SR on the shelf they would like to unload cheap. If a dealer still has any of the kits in stock, they might hand them over for a song since they're hardly ever used these days and by rights are 'dead inventory'. Time for your best Monty Hall impersonation.

Online probably isn't the answer because they're still trying to get $130~$135 or so (or really stupid CDN$ 235.69 Amazon price) for the kits there.

I don't drive the SF so I just asked my wife about the door triggered lights.
She: "Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you they weren't working."
Me: "When did that happen?"
She: "Two years ago."
Me: silence. cause that's the smart thing to do.

Anyway, thanks to all for this thread. The SF is getting some TLC this winter for lighting replacement (LED), interior accent lighting and cameras, so this goes on the list as well.

Finally got so time off to tackle this problem. While I was installing the rear camera I played with the tail gate "door/on/off" switch and ......nothing. In fact, nothing in the overhead lighting works as in no map or center nor tail. Is the diode fix for all of them or just the front map lights. I'll be checking them all the day after tomorrow for voltage and burnt bulbs but I was just wondering.

As a side note, when I was installing the rear cam I had a lot of panels to remove to get the wiring properly installed. These things are built like tanks!

You will never blow them with that current rating!! LOL

If your lights are working and you find some functional LED's then you cut the load on the diode a lot and never blow on you. Trouble is as in other discussion. The socket it 90 degrees to the output so 20% comes out at best. Someones smart engineering.

Have all three working now, map, dome and rear. It was my fault they weren't working. When I installed the rear parking sensors I had removed the sun visors on the passenger side to allow the headliner to drop for overhead front to rear cable installation. When I reassemble the visor I pinched the wire that goes to the "switch". I blew 5 fuses before I found the pinch.

Just wanted to thank everyone for posting to this thread. My wife and I have a 2010 Santa Fe which we got from her parents. It was one month beyond the five year bumper-to-bumper warranty period when we received it. It has a number of minor issues (all of which, of course, would have been covered under the warranty) including the problem with the map light "door" setting which everyone reading this thread is all too familiar. I debated how much it was worth to me in terms of dollars to have map lights that turned on when the doors were opened. I was certainly not going to pay to have the dealer replace the map light assembly. Thanks to the magic of the internet I came across this thread in which I learned for the first time that the diode in the map light assembly was the problem. After obtaining a new diode (1N5402) from the local RadioShack, and about 30 minutes of disassembly, soldering, and reassembly, I now have map lights which function as they should when the "door" setting is engaged. Thanks again to all who contributed!

(As an additional note, for anyone experiencing the same map light problem and debating whether they have the skills required for this repair - give it a shot. I would rate myself as average-at-best in terms of handiness, and I found this to be a fairly easy DIY project.)

Cheap fix for overhead light not working

I had the same problem on my 2010 Santa Fe. When front door is opened, the rear dome light comes on OK but the front light does not work.

Based on comments I saw on the internet, I assumed that the diode in my overhead light asm had blown. So I did the following:
1) Removed the overhead light asm by removing 2 Phillips screws, then pulled asm down from ceiling & unplugged cable.
2) Removed electrical board from overhead light asm by removing 4 Phillips screws and unsnapping 2 black plastic tabs.
3) Soldered another diode right next to the existing one (I did not bother removing the old one). I made sure that diode orientation is the same (i.e.- silver bar is on the same side of both old & new diode)
4) Reattached electrical board to overhead light asm.
5) Plugged cable back in, and replaced the overhead light asm.

This fix worked like a champ! Total repair time = 30 minutes. Total cost = $2.02. I bought 10 relatively beefy diodes from Amazon.com, and now I have 9 spares. For the exact diode that I used, so to Amazon.com and search for B009IN1KB8.

I joined this forum just to thanks to everyone who posted about this. My dome light stopped working a while back and I knew it would be expensive to fix at the dealer so I let it go (though admittedly it's annoying when it's not working). I found this thread by accident a couple of days ago so decided to give it a whirl. Couldn't find better diodes so I replaced it with a stock one and, though I'm not proud of my soldering job (think melted plastic and future order of smaller soldering tips), it's now fixed! Thanks!!!
