I was planning to change the ATF in my '07 Santa Fe for the first time next month (40,000 miles).

Just wondering if the SP-III at a Kia dealership was the same as from a Hyundai dealership. Kia is closer to home, but if would potentially void my warranty, I would of course stay away from it.

I have no doubt it's the same thing, made in the same refinery.
The owners manual says:

"HYUNDAI GENUINE ATF SP III, DIAMOND ATF SP III, SK ATF SP III or other
brands meeting the SP III specification approved by Hyundai Motor Co.."

Don't waste your money on Hyundai, Kia or Diamond SPIII. It's antiquated crap that is already being replaced by SPIV. You are better off getting one of these, they all exceed the SPIII requirement, which is not hard to do.

All of these will dramatically improve shift quality and reduce torque converter lock up shudder. Personally, I have been using the Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle ATF.

So you are telling us that its OK to use SPH-IV & any Multi A/T Fluid, when this TSB just came out which expressly says not to?

And why does my Hyundai Dealer use one of those Synthetic products you listed above. It is all very confusing

No, only the Multi-Vehicle ATF's that I posted meet or exceed the SPIII requirement. The Domestic Multi-Vehicle ATF, formerly known as DexronIII/Mercon is not OK to use.

As for that TSB, if you read the Castrol Product Data Sheet, you will see that it is recommended for almost 90% of all Hyundais (SPIII, the Aisin tranny in the Veracruze, the ZF tranny in the Genesis 4.6 and Genesis Coupe 3.8, etc.).
Also, the TSB also warns against Additives, I have always warn against using additives.

Owners of the 2nd Gen Santy have reported using non-SPIII with no ill effects. Owners of the picky eater first-generation have reported nothing but pain, suffering, and misery when using non-SPIII. I have heard everything from rough shifts to failed transmissions and because of that, my Santa Fe will never use anything but SPIII.

All of the above mentioned meet or exceed the SPIII requirement.

I have yet to see a documented transmission failure as a result of a 'suitable for use where SP-III is spec'd' ATF being used in place of dealer SP-III in a Hyundai vehicle. Non SP-III spec'd ATF's yes, I have read of failures. Perry, EXCELLENT list BTW. FWIW, I changed out the factory fill SP-III in my 2008 Santa Fe GLS AWD at ~40Kmi with Valvoline Maxlife ATF. I'm at 46Kmi and it shifts like a finely tuned machine. I personally would not bother with dealer SP-III. As dark and nasty as that factory SP-III looked at ~40Kmi, that stuff will never be used by me.

there have been a vast amount of threads/posts about this subject in the past, the same issue just keps coming up over and over again.

at the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinions so if anyone whats to use something other that SP111 fluid thats fine

this topic can lead nowhere apart from starting arguments and is now closed
