Hi All,

I am hoping some one out there can help me out with a recently purchased used 1997 Elantra that I bought. The radio displays displays CODE when turned on.
After ripping open the dash to get the serial number from the radio I called Hyundai who stated that they do not have the codes for anything newer than a 1995 (doh!!!). They then sugggested that I call a dealer. The dealers want me to drop the car off and of course there is the obligatory service fee. So I was hoping someone out there in hyundai-land could tell me how to reactivate my darn radio.

After reading some previous posts on this topic I have held the #4 button in while
turning on the radio and the display becomes a 3X3 grid that looks like:
0 - 0
- - -
- - 0

where the 0's are blank and the '-' are lines. Can the code be determined from this display? anyone decipher this? Is the code etched anywhere else in the car?
This whole radio code thing is really starting to bug me
Please help.

Hi ,

This may be a bit too obvious, and I'm sure you have tried it, but the default is probably 0000, no?

Give it a whirl.

You never know!

Andrew .

I was late because the voices in my head told me to sharpen my knives and clean my guns before I left, OK?! many WRX owners, so few WRX drivers...

the whole idea of a radio security code is that it protects the radio from theives, if it was that simple to get the radio working again there would be no point in having a code in the first place. l am afraid the only way you are going to get your radio code is to go to a main dealer, once you have got it write it down somewhere safe.
