If you travel and rent cars try and rent a Hyundai....be sure to check the glove compartment. I've found many Hyundai ipod cables that way. Do what you wish with this info.

It also sounds 100 times nicer then using Bluetooth method, you can also use any mp3 device I'd imagine just use a double male headphone jack and plug into devices headphone plug then into the one beside the USB only thing is you won't get any song info do you'd have to look at you mp3 player. Regardless there are a lot of different ways and devices you can use, it's a great little set up!
Do you have a link to where you bought the cable that you could share? Thx.

wavestrake is on a distinguished road
Has anyone found a Hyundai iPod/iPhone cable that is longer than 24"? I see people posting extended iPhone/iPod USB cables combined with extended 3.5mm audio cables. The Hyundai iPod/iPhone cable is not a simple combination of these two cables. It contains special circuitry. So I'm looking for a real Hyundai iPod/iPhone cable (it can be an after market brand) that is longer than the 2ft standard one.

Sorry, this may be a stupid question, will a standard ipod cable plugged into the USB slot not function? If not, is it that this will not charge the ipod or that it simply will not play music through the car stereo this way?

My Pioneer aftermarket stereo accepts stnd ipod cable and charges the ipod as well. Curious because I am looking at the new Santa Fe as my next vehicle.

The Hyundai brand specific cable has what "looks" like a standard iPod plug and a headphone jack combined into one but evidently isn't that simple because the Hyundai cable for the iPod works perfectly, with full display of tracks etc. on the dash's display, plus you can volume +/- and flip tracks etc. from the steering wheel buttons.

Whereas using a male/male headphone jack plugged into the iPod and car together with the iPod plugged into the USB connection provides a connection but no remote controls. Agreed it is a rip-off but not much of an alternative if you want remote controls.

As I said using a male/male headphone jack plugged into the iPod and car together with the iPod plugged into the USB connection provides a connection but no control.

I bought my Hyundai cable on Kijiji from a guy that was changing cars, glad to see that the cables are starting to appear on eBay. As for a longer cable use a "iPod docking" extension cable (from eBay approx $8-10) together with the OEM cable.

I sent an inquiry to HMUSA, and here's the reponse I got back:
"Thank you for contacting Hyundai Motor America. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your inquiry about a new wiring harness for the iPhone 5.

At this time, we do not have any information regarding a new wiring harness for the iPhone 5. We apologize for any disappointments this may cause you. We suggest you check back with us periodically and see if there are any updates about your inquiry."

Anyone else have a similar story?

The 2012 Sonata with Navigation uses the Hyundai cable. The 2012 Sonata with standard radio uses the stock apple cable. I see more Hyundai models use the new cable each year. I think they saw the light, but it takes time to convert.

Veloster is 100% apple cable, Sonata is mixed, and I stopped checking when my wife bought the Sonata.

Apple will sell an adapter to connect the iPhone5 to the old connector, so if you have a car that uses the Hyundai cable, you can upgrade to a 5 and still use your Hyundai cable. Or you start using the bluetooth connection and get a charger to keep the phone charged (the new ones keep the USB powered, but the radios that need the Hyundai cable turn the USB power off unless they are active)

As for extending the Hyundai cable: Add a apple cable extender, or extend the USB and AUX cables with extension cables. Not an elegant solution, but it works.
