Probably some time in the past someone got caught with a bad thermostat and no replacement. Can get away with such a thing in hot climate, but the above advice is spot on; a slow warm up will throw a CEL error. Been there, done that. In my case the thermostat stuck open in Amarillo in December.

Don't worry, the part you replaced isn't actually the thermostat housing. The thermostat lives down on the back of the engine under the inlet manifold.
