Indicators went on my Amica yesterday, checked the fuses quickly and all are fine (fusebox cover is missing so unable to ascertain which fuse is the right one)
Would it be the relay? Where is that located? Are they universal fit?
Thanks for the fast reply. Interesting on the reverse light - will check that!
First port of call was to check hazards and they made a "click" sound, but didn't do anything. When I try them again I don't get any clicks or noises. Just nothing
Since both the indicators and the hazard lamps are effected I'd say it's almost certainly the flasher relay that's faulty.
There isn't anything special about it. You should be able to pick one up at any motor factors, Halfords or whatever.
There are a few different terminal configurations for flasher relays so it would be best to take the original as a sample.
The relay is mounted on the dash fusebox. It'll be the largest relay there and it will only have 3 terminals.
The terminal markings on the Hyundai relay might be different from the aftermarket one :
Hyundai B = 49 on the aftermarket relay
Hyundai L = 49a
Hyundai E = 31
The best way to test the relay is to plug it into a known good circuit, so I'd suggest testing the circuit as described above and if there are no faults found the relay kinda has be faulty, or the incorrect one for your particular vehicle.
Well. After some digging with a multimeter I found the issue. For one reason or another, at some point in the past the 12v supply to the relay has broken. So someone took a 12v supply from the brake pedal sensor. Not a problem in itself but whoever did it, did a shoddy job and there was a loose connection. Redid it properly and all is fine. I suspect the old relay is fine as well now. Old cars eh.
I didn't bother checking why the old 12v was changed out, suspect working damage somewhere along the line. Easier to pipe in the 12v nearby.
Ah, that explains why the hazard lamps and the indicators were both effected then. If the wiring was original that wouldn't have happened.
The brake switch on Hyundai is normally supplied from the battery rather than via the ignition switch. Does that mean the indicators on your car work even with the key off...just curious.
Well, it's not working the Hyundai intended but at least it's working now.
Scottie.
