I noticed that the 2017 Elantra cannot play FLAC files. Can this be added via a software update? The Ioniq can in fact play FLAC files. I am surprised that other Hyundai models cannot.
Actually, I'm surprised the Ioniq can - most OEM and for that matter most aftermarket stereos won't play FLAC files. I doubt it can be updated in software, but I'm not sure of that.
I was surprised to discover that my Elantra Sport WILL play FLAC. The catch is that the headunit will only play files up to a 44.1kHz sample rate.
Most commercial FLAC releases use higher sample rates to maximize quality. I was able to use Foobar2000's Resampler plugin and the output files play nicely. I can't really tell the difference between 44.1kHz and 96kHz in blind testing anyway and the files are smaller. I've also had great luck with OGG Vorbis as a lossy alternative that sounds better than MP3 for a given file size. It also plays fine in my Elantra.
Before I tried FLAC files in My 2018 Elantra SEL with the 7" touchscreen radio, I searched on here to see if FLAC files were even supported. Pretty much thought they wouldn't be, or it would be a YMMV scenario judging by the replies on this thread. THEY DO WORK. I ripped a CD to FLAC in Windows Media Player so I have no idea what the khz are on them, but they play fine. I did notice they seem a little quieter than CDs I had ripped to MP3 on the same computer.
Just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone else came upon this thread in a search as I did. :nerd:
Confirm working on my 17 Ltd no navi no Infinity system
