Arrow 2018 Elantra detailed information

A big thanks goes out to @KB in MD for discovering the news. I feel this topic should be addressed as a separate topic that deserves it's own thread.

NEW HIGH-VALUE SEL MODEL HIGHLIGHTS UPGRADES TO THE 2018 ELANTRA LINEUP

Boom! The news has officially leaked about the 2018 model lineup. The interesting changes thus far are....

- The new SEL model is replacing the SE model (more info with the changes are included in the link as to standard features)
- The limited model will now feature gloss black accents (trim)
- Hyundai officially mentioned how Bluelink would be standard for 3 years with the new 2018 Sonata and Ioniq vehicles. This is the first press release that specifically mentions the Elantra by name as to also receiving that benefit. So cool! Whew! There's no backing out now unless Hyundai wants to be perceived as liars.
- The Sport model comes with a standard sunroof, blind spot detection, cross traffic alert, and lane change standard. Hmm, I bet the price of the 2017 model won't be passed along to the 2018. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a MSRP increase.

---> I'm so pumped to see the new exterior color - machine gray. The readers that have followed along since the very beginning of the new AD platform know both production plants (Korea and Alabama) produce a slightly different gray color than each other. This is deeply intriguing as to what both plants will produce. Considering the press release was made for the US and no word for anything built for the Korean units for North America....boy, what a sweet moment if there's another color making its way to the US market if indeed that's Hyundai's agenda. >>I really hope this happens or the new machine gray is completely sick.<< I'm picturing a matte color for some reason.

- Sweet momma get the 2018 Sport model here and now and I'll buy it today!! --> HID headlights (blah, blah...yeah..old news with the 2017 model)...but, it clearly states under the Sport model that it will have the dynamic bending headlights. This is so cool. Only the limited model had this as an option in terms of the 2017 model. Oh-man...I hope Miles Johnson (the guy that wrote the Hyundai article) didn't goof up the listing, and meant it's available just for the limited model lineup.
- door exterior door handle LEDs. Okay, hopefully the LEDs this time around are on all 4 exterior doors and not just the front doors like the 2017 models. The article doesn't specify, but I really hope it's on all 4 doors this time.

Under advanced safety technologies-

It's says, 'Available Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection.' How peculiar no model is mentioned as to if it will just be made available for the limited model, or if the Sport model will finally have this option. If it does make its way to other models, I don't expect it to trickle down below the Sport model unless Hyundai started to charge extra as a separate package for a hefty fee.

The focal point of the article is around the SEL model. I wouldn't be too surprised if there were a few more hidden tricks up Hyundai's sleeve to the final details. This much I will say... I'm expecting heavy discounts to get rid of the remaining 2017 SE models and maybe the entire fleet of 2017s out there. The yo-yo game with pricing will be interesting for the 2018 lineup. At first with slightly higher prices than noticed for the 2017 models, than shortly after there might be rebates. Meh, I really hope the pricing can be fair from the start without this yo-yo pricing jumping around during the beginning phase..

If I missed anything new in the article, someone say something.

@Freeway Surfer: I think you pretty much covered it. I know you have your heart set on a power driver's seat. I read your review hoping to find mention of it. I say this to Hyundai engineers/marketing guru's where that's concerned-It's not a matter of "why," but "why not?"

"Slap a power harness in there, bolt on a 6-way seat, and let's get this thing off the assy line. Not like you don't know how or don't have the materials sitting in a Kan-Ban container."

D@mn, you got me. I quickly wrote the above and forgot about listing that detail. It does mention under the Sport model,'Available heated front & rear seats and segment 1st Integrated Memory System (IMS) for driver’s seat, outside mirrors and instrument panel illumination.'

Looks like I'll finally get my wish along with some extra perks

Chrome exterior door handles deleted from Limited - not a horrible loss, since quality aftermarket chrome covers are available, made by Auto Clover.

Gloss black interior accents available on Limited - woah, I just loaded my interior with piano black accents. I wonder what parts will get this treatment? Will it be paint with clear coat or cheap polished plastic that scratches the first time you swipe a soft microfiber cloth across it?

It did not say SE was leaving (at least I hope not). It seems it was simpler or less confusing to call it SEL instead of SE with Pop Package, etc.

Truth alone triumphs, not untruth.

I'm surprised that they squeezed an SEL model in-between the SE and Value Edition. The SEL basically has everything the V.E. has, minus the sunroof, and smart trunk. I can't see how there can be enough of a price difference, really. That being said, I'm interested to see if the SEL is the same gray 16" wheels as the V.E.

I would have liked to have seen the V.E. get the Memory Seat and Infinity sound options, broken out from the Limited trim. I wanted those options pretty badly, but didn't want to step up to a Limited. Not everyone wants to be forced into leather seats.

Nice to see that they made the 2018 Sport just that little bit more special.

Reviewing the link once more, I'm in full agreement. The SE doesn't appear to be going anywhere. Someone from corporate actually had a bright idea --> instead of calling the SE with added packages, they're giving it a general name i.e. The SEL instead of the reference of calling it the SE with popular equipment package.

I know, right. There's so many versions of the Elantra now and there's even the GT model coming out which will also have several versions too.

I'm so pumped for the Sport release if everything holds as fully being true to this press release. Hopefully these changes in any trim model don't come at a major price difference in comparison to the 2017 models.

>grins<...I'm so excited. I bet you're buying the 2019/20 with as many miles you're currently accumulating with the '17.

Left wondering what's going on...

Hyundai's tripping. Wtf...both links are official Hyundai announcements, yet they both say conflicting things. The Sport model better have a power drivers seat.

Interesting news addition - the 2018 models that have the 8" navigation will come with AVN 4.0. The 2017 currently has AVN 3.0 and the 2018 GT model is using AVN 5.0. It's very unlikely anyone at the dealership will know what the difference is...but I'm left to wonder, what's the difference between AVN 3.0 to 4.0? I'm sure it's the layout of the menu...maybe even a different touchscreen is used in comparison to prior models. If Hyundai is using a different touchscreen unit per the screen/ company manufacturer...I sure would like to know.
