BlueLink Contacted Me!

I didn't renew myBlueLink at the end of my 12 month subscription. There's only been one or two instances since then that I would have used it for new route navigations. I survived via Google maps.

I received an email from them the other day with an offer to resign at a 60% savings discount. Cost to me: $39.60. I'm considering it. Where I'm hedging:: the other two services are still full retail price. $99/year, EACH. On the fence over this. I have about 45 more days to make up my feeble. aged brain.

I guess I'm secretly holding out for a 60% drop on the yearly subscription rate for the other two.

Hold my breath, yes?

I would possibly be interested in Remote, maybe Connected Care, and Guidance - in that order, and I don't think I could personally justify $99 for just remote. To clarify, they are offering you Guidance alone for $45, or they are offering you all three services for $243, or your choice of either of those? Holding your breath could be dangerous (I don't think they'll offer all three for $135), but one can hope!!!

It would be $243 for the whole enchilada, sir. They kinda rope you in with the one (Connected Care) at 60% off the regular $99 price, and if you go along with this hog tying, they offer to lash you down with Guidance and Remote for an additional $99 each for the other two optional services, or $198.

I think of it as being akin to offering a free-spirited dog (in this case, ME!) a Porterhouse steak to come to the beckoning Master when called. Only to get beaten with a stick and caged for digging under the fence to escape the confines of the yard.

A step further "out there" would be like XM offering you unlimited music for $1.50 a month. Then you find out they only pipe in half the song. "Sir, it's an additional $3.50 a month if you want to hear the channel selections in their entirety." LOL

I'm still on the fence.

You won't receive another offer for a lower price for the same package. I've looked into this awhile ago with other people mentioning how they received a deeper discount after their first offer has expired...but their first offer was 30% with eventually 50% max discount.

Here's the problem in a nutshell for those early adopters of the 2017 models

HYUNDAI MAKES REMOTE SERVICES STANDARD ON IONIQ AND BLUE LINK-EQUIPPED 2018 MODELS

Haha you're thinking at this point...what is the problem. Well, it's simple. If the service is free for 3 years for cars that have Bluelink capability for vehicle model year 2018...how will Hyundai make up the difference (rhetorical question). It's simple...by offering earlier adopters some form of discount.

Another problem for Hyundai - the packages are broken up into three categories which the simple fact is if the consumer wants any of the Bluelink services, they'll want the entire package but with a much lower price than Hyundai currently offers the service.

Now here's an interesting scenario that is quite possible- Hyundai's Bluelink could suffer on some level with a shortcoming of financial gain. If that were to happen, I wouldn't be surprised if Hyundai reevaluates Bluelink by bundling the services together for a more appealing price point.

It's uncertain if Hyundai has any intent with the future production models 2019 onward in terms of Bluelink being free for whatever time period.

Personally my input is as follows...I think Hyundai is trying to add growth to its company portfolio through future claims of how many Bluelink subscribers there are in the year 2018. It's a form of attention the media will report in the media as some awe factor. Well, no duh when those customers received the service for 3 years for free at that point.

Excuse the long read

Best advice would be to contact Miles Johnson which you can discover his contact information in the above link mentioned moments ago. I strongly suggest a forum involvement to contact Hyundai or Miles Johnson if this Bluelink is any concern to you.

I'm in the clear anyways...I'm purchasing a 2018.

XM - Being retired.. we rarely go out alone.. nor drive a lot (yet). My wife had XM in her car because of CW music and no local radio stations. But we usually took my car (after retirement) and now with the HSH getting 44 - 47 mgp we almost always take my car. So I got a portable XM radio (two new ones for $64) and you can transfer your car XM subscription to a portable XM for $15. Now I have two bases in either car. She goes out a couple of times a month and can hear her CW, alone..

BTW - Don Henley's new album has CW "flavor"... ugggggg. Sunset Grill... my favorite !

But XM has a "mostly music" selection they don't talk about much. $11 a month (plus taxes and FEE$). That's what we have had for a number of years. None of the "special" channels but a number of CW stations and many "classic" stations.

BLUE LINK: You MUST have the Connection account. That's where they annoy you that you need to schedule service with Hyundai dealer. I get a discount for the car "disable" feature in N.J. Just got a new auto insurance bill ($1,200 per car) so I have to figure out if it's worth it as we don't drive her car that much. On mine, kind of stupid to "warm up" a hybrid car, and you can't turn on the seat heaters.

Now, wait...you saying you went out and bought 2 XM radios and aren't going to use them???

$11 music only? I pay $18 a month for 2 with the "Family pack", and they threw in sports and traffic for laughs. But I have also been a "subscriber" since 2005 and have 2 portable radios and the Accent (I pay $25/5s month for the Accent. For some reason they can't combine them. Well, they can...for full monthly fee on ALL radios...)

The problem is... we never drive the other car. We take it if only going a few miles here or there. So getting a subscription, would be pointless.
Takes 2 seconds to pull out the radio and put it in the other car, but I have a spare in case the original dies.
We'll take the SFS AWD a lot more in the winter months, but again just pop the radio and we're off.

I'm going to take a wait and see on XM. I think the $1200 GPS option and unlimited mobile accounts are going to do the same damage as on-line sales have done malls. I bet 5 years ago no one would have figured these big time stores would be closing their doors. Everyone is going mobile and will pay $5 more a month to drop XM and the expensive GPS and $200 map updates.
My son dropped his XM a few years ago, he streams for free. My sister got her XM bill and said that was the last year as it hit $240. Blue Link will be having the same problem soon. $180 a year just to start your car.. To use the other features is another $90 a year.

You made a good purchase on the two radios and one subscription for both cars. You just paid too much at $11/month for Mostly Music as opposed to $5/month for XM Select.

Personally, I enjoy XM and it is worth $5/month for me. It isn't worth much more than that, though. You are correct, though - two things are really hurting it long term:

- Most people are okay with streaming music from their smartphone to the radio using services like Spotify or Pandora or others for free.

- Most people can have more music and more variety of songs than XM plays on a USB flash drive or an SD card in their phone and stream that instead.
