When I test drove a 2017 SE Value Edition, I was so disappointed and surprised to hear a very tinny, unrefined loud engine noise on hard acceleration! My current 2015 Civic EX with CVT sounds much more refined and quieter on hard acceleration. Are Civic engine sounds just more refined that the current model 2017 Elantra??
Any other 2017 SE owners disappointed about this??
While I'm not an owner, I'm renting one at the moment....yes, it gets loud when you have to punch it to get any hard acceleration. I think the car is fine if you are trying to drive it slow around town, but if you have a lead foot, I think it gets annoying. But I think perhaps the model you should consider would be the new Sport instead. The VE though is a really good package though, and I can see its appeal. I think the VE will be the new popular model for Uber/Lyft drivers.
I rented a 2016 Elantra, a 2016 Corolla, and bought a 2017 Elantra SE. I found the 2017 Elantra to be the quietest of the bunch (by far). I'm not sure if the Value Edition has the under-hood noise suppression pad or not, but i wonder if that could be making the difference?
I find it to be a very quiet and well mannered car to drive on the highway.
I had a 2013 Elantra and I recently purchased a 2017 Elantra Limited. I am not displeased at all with the sound.
I do have a 'lead foot'. I try to push the acceleration to the limit. It can be a bit noisy in regular mode but I don't notice it if I am listening to music. It does have a Sport mode which I only have used about twice. It obviously was noisier. I also think compared to the 2013 I was driving they quieted the engine noise.
I test drove the Elantra Sport and didn't feel like it performed well and was very noisy for me. I am also not in my 20s any longer. I liked the 201HP on the Sport but it still didn't have much more acceleration than the Limited.
since the 1.4 is turbocharged, i would just add a water injection system. that would keep everything clean, boost octane rating(engine would think it was running on super), lower egt's, improve fuel economy. the spark plugs would be so clean, they would look new, except there would be wear on the electrodes. pistons would be spotless. you would never need to worry about the ill effects of gdi with water injection. i would guess that with the 15" rims, the ride would be a bit smoother and quieter, too. now, if they would put that engine in a value edition, i would bite.
Sounds like you're referring to a water methanol setup. I've read in another post with that's how you've done it in the past. Problem is it's a constant maintenance item by topping off the system which the average consumer doesn't want to do. Also - there's the deep concern of voiding the manufacture warranty if the dealer deems and can prove it caused an engine issue.
Methanol isn't as hard as some think it is to obtain...but it is true that it isn't nearly as accessible at locations in comparison to other car necessities.
Alright, so, after spending time with it, I find the engine to be maybe a little noisy at higher RPM's before it shifts. That goes away quickly, and it's otherwise pleasantly quiet, as is the rest of the vehicle. With my driving style, I don't usually get the engine above 3,500 unless I'm merging onto the freeway, so I never really even hear it.
water injection can have methanol added, or it can be run on water itself. and methanol is easily available at home depot or lowes. i used the windshield washer reservoir, it has a low level light, but i always kept it full. under normal driving, it dont get used a lot
It's true they are tricks to getting a methanol blend...but it is a blend formula and the most methanol the consumer can easily buy will be in the 30% range as it can also be noted in the video below. The water reservoir trick is one of my favorites when it comes to keeping things hidden/ maintaining a factory appearance.
I just wanted to weigh in with the OP, on the response that should have been, full stop, "/thread". LOL ..
