Replaced my interior, trunk, and back-up bulbs with white LED's. Nice shampoo, chamois, and tire dressing. Looking good.

I wanted her to be pristine when I go to the tag agent to pay my tag, title, & tax, tomorrow. I'm gonna open that agent's door, turn around inside, and gently back up to the counter in preparation for the Great State of Oklahoma's welcome.

Pictures of what? The strikingly beautiful Elantra Ultimate in my driveway? Not gonna be any photos taken at the tag agent's. :surprise::frown:

Just ordered a set of door strike covers to dress up the door jamb. Forgot to remove the ones on the 2013. Oh, well, can't remember everything. :surprise:

Got 'em, today! Only 3 days from California to OK. $9.00/free shipping from an eBay vendor. Authentic Hyundai/Kia in OEM packaging. There were several others on eBay selling for $14 and change. But, I'm "Cheap Charlie."

I know it's a cosmetic touch. Not sure it really serves any great function other than slowing down moisture build-up/rust? Even at that, it would take several years, I imagine, for a slight appearance of any corrosion to begin appearing. But it's a nice look.

Zak, if I could've found a copy rite symbol, I would've placed it in front of your name. So, I put it in parentheses since you started the very first one in 2011 on the MD Forum. Which, evidently, was so popular it blew the server and had to be restarted. LOL

Window tint!!! Window tint!!! Looks awesome! Went with the 35%. With Solar Glass it now stands at 25.9%. Just a fraction above Oklahoma's allowable 25% and still remain legal. :thumbsup:X 2!

Gonna look pimp'n tomorrow at the Spring game! Now I'm considering putting this chrome Sonata 5-spoke rims on her. Might look great with the chrome door handles she came with from the factory.

#16 ·
Thanks, jomar. I'm considering installing the Sonata chromes I took off my 13. Thoughts, anyone? Might compliment those chrome door handles.

I vacuumed my dealer-provided floor mats that I use to protect my all-weather mats from getting dirty/scratched, which were vacuumed, YESTERDAY! My OEM mats are still in the plastic bag. I need to get a life. :grin2:

I might clean my muffler tomorrow with stainless steel polish. Operative word, here: "MIGHT..."

Stopped by the dealership to get my complimentary oil/filter change. Only 1,600 miles, but I'd sleep better knowing those little, microscopic, aluminum shavings were out of the engine. And some little pigtail shavings NOT so microscopic.

Complimentary vacuum, too. Like that was a chore for the little lady doing it. It was all she could do to find any dust particulates.

There isn't any of that stuff.
Modern engines are manufactured so well, they don't need a break in period. They run them on dynos at the factory to seat the rings and they are good to go.

What aluminum part of the engine do you imagine is getting "shaved" when your car is new?

And what on earth would be taking machine cuttings ("pigtails") out of anything in your engine? If that was happening, something would fail pretty quickly.

Have you ever looked at what's in your oil filter after the "break in period"? I have.

#23 ·
I jumped the gun and had it done ahead of schedule, considering the circumstances. It being new, and all.

Now, I'll start my legendary oil/filter change routine.

I changed the oil in my 2013 at 500 miles (old school break in rule) Then again at and every 3k miles. My 2013 I decided to go with Royal Purple oil, yeah it might coast more up front but the key is; the oil is good for 12k miles change the filter every 3k and top off what you lose from filter change. On the 5th change or 12k miles its time for a complete oil change.

I will most likely be doing the same routine with the 2017 when I ever get it in my possession.

Sadly, I've already ruined my brand new car. Got a little too close to the giant support pillar next to my parking space. CRUNCH! So now my new car is ruined. (Slight exaggeration) Same day I made the first payment. Decent scrape on the back of the rear passenger door and the wheel well. Made an appointment to take it to the body shop next week. If it was 5 years old I wouldn't probably bother, but since it's literally brand new... At least my deductible is only $500.

Man, that's terrible news. That's my biggest fear in this new ride: screwing up something. They'd have to admit me into the big rubber-walled room for a couple of weeks.

Received an email from my dealer: $5 off any part's department purchase. I went in today and bought a Hyundai oil filter: $1.07. The look on the lady's face behind the pay window was priceless.

I drove up, initially, went in to the service writer I have known for about 6 years. Was there getting oil/filter change, yesterday. As I walked up to his surprised look at me returning today, I said, "Cory, I've got oil running out from under my valve cover." Sometimes, it's difficult to maintain your composure and keep a straight face in these situations.

Worried he might have a stroke, I 'fessed up. One of these days I'm gonna get my comeuppance. They are going to come up with some believable nonsense to get me reeling back onto my heels. In all honesty? I would deserve it! :grin2:

Lol, it's okay. I was fortunate enough to be on the MD Elantra Forum for quite some time (2011 Elantra GLS, and a 2015 Elantra Sport). This is where the party is at now!

Eureka!!! Found the pre-assembled rear bumper LED reflectors. In Korea. Fit the 2017 Avante AD & 2017 Elantra, only. Cha-Ching...$100. I don't care. When I get back from Virginia, they may be waiting on me. Or soon afterward.

I refuse to buy that LED assembly kit on eBay that requires you to remove and cut yours open, insert the LED strip and reassemble and weatherproof. No thanks. I wanted "turn-key, plug and play." Just like the ones I installed on my 2013. I never had one minute's trouble out of those. Worked flawlessly up to the day I traded her in.

Nap time guys, if I'm gonna get outta here on time, tonight!!! I'll try to jump on every once in a while. "Be kind to the mods in my absence!!!" ;)

Washed the ol' girl, this morning. 46F. :frozen:  NO WAY, NO HOW, was I leaving 1,300 miles of bug carcasses on the front of the bumpers, the mirrors, and the windshield. She's looking good, now. Got a compliment at the Shell station when I was filling up.

After the compliment, he said, "New, huh? A '16?" I told him a 2017. He was floored.

I was thinking of you yestrerday.

I'm just wondering...what will your next car be? I mean, how do you progress from "Ultimate"? You have reached the top, there is nowhere to go but down, or do you hang on to it until they come out with a Penultimate. But then, once you've reached that level, there is nowhere else to go!

Better take good care of it...

Next car? Waiting for the Hyundai vehicle (currently being tested in California) that is driver-free. Get in, grab a pillow, set destination, sleep, read the paper. Something BESIDES drive! LOL

#48 ·
Only problem is, the other people on the road are still driving theirs. ("Driving" being a relative term. They are in the driver's seat, and holding the wheel....I think. But as far as "driving" goes...)

Today, I took my soon to be 16 year old driving in our Elantra. Her Elantra. She's having a lot of trouble learning to park (not parallel parking, haven't even tried that yet, but a REGULAR PARKING SPACE, and I'm going to try to find some cones to use to help her practice. Better to hit the cones than another car.

It's a process, as you know. An "acquired" skill. She will get it figured out. You, however, may become dependent upon nerve medications until she gets her license. Parallel parking is DEFINATELY an acquired skill.

Unless you have one of the new cars that parallel parks for you.

I always wondered if those were legal on the driving tests - "Okay park between these cones". "Okay" <Pull up, push button, shift into Race, let go of wheel, feed gas when instructed.> "Did I pass?"

When you get back, post the link for the reflectors please!!!

The ones I bought and installed on the 2013 were the Camily brand. They were really well made. And about $55 with shipping, if I remember correctly. Four years later, inflation adjusted? Or, exchange rate differences? Maybe both? LOL
