To start off: Hello I am Kyle. I have a great little '01 Accent and it has been a blast. That was until it decided not to start. I was on my way home from work when I realized the car was acting sluggish. It was not accelerating like it should have and it was it did not seem like I was going as fast as it said. When I went to go use it again, it started, then died and has not started since. I checked oil, and it was low. It wasn't out, but it was low. I have checked batt, fuel filter, fuel pump, and loose wiring. I am at a loss. Any ideas?

EDIT: Please move this to correct forum. I thought I did but was wrong... Sorry!

How much below the add mark is your oil level? If you can see oil on the dip stick, it probably isn't the problem, but you should add enough oil to bring it up to just above the add mark.

When you turn the key to the full on position, is your check engine light on? Do you have a scanner to check for fault codes? If not, you may be able to borrow one at a chain auto parts store. Often you can put down a deposit to borrow one and get it back when you return the tool to the auto parts store. If you can't borrow one, you can purchase one from WalMart for about $40 and up (I put a couple of links at the bottom). It sounds like your car went into limp mode which means the ECM (car computer) was trying to protect the engine.

Not sure about the Accent, but for some cars the fuel pump will turn on briefly until it gets up to the correct pressure then stop. You may have to get someone else to turn the key on while you stand near the gas cap to listen. If you don't know when the gas filter was last changed, it won't hurt to change it if your car has one that's not in the gas tank. But, all this is a shot in the dark until you can check for fault codes.
