Default manual shift knob

Has anyone noticed the manual shift knob in our GT's SUCK??? I happened to sit in a veloster turbo the other day and the shift knob was completely different and much more comfortable and stylish with nice soft leather (matches the soft leather on the steering wheel). I found it on ebay for $44. Acording to the shop manual it just twists off....i checked the veloster its the same. So im wondering...anyone change theres out yet?? The shift levers appear to be the same (they should be as both cars ride on the same chassis and use the same trans). Does it really swap easy?? Let me know...im tempted to be a guinea pig and try it out if no one can confirm.

I haven't read any posts on people who've done it, but they could have slipped under my radar. That being said, why don't you be the first one to try it? Just be sure to post pics!

I'm hoping a manufacturer releases a short shifter for the car and then maybe ill change shift knob then too. I also found stock knob to be very plastic feeling/ looking

1. Pull up on the leather (vinyl boot) - you have to pull pretty hard as it is held on by a several clips.

2. turn old shift knob counter clockwise. It is threaded. the leather boot will be turning at the same time.

3. keep tuning counter clockwise until shift knob comes off but be careful not lose the big spring when the old knob comes off.

4. put new knob onto threads

5. turn clockwise until new shift knb is tight

6. push clips and boot back into place.

I happen to like my knob, fits in my hand quite well i have had it replaced though already because the leather and "burshed aluminum" coating were wearing and started to irritate my hand. Would be nice to have a short throw at some point, but everything comes in time.

time and money seems to go hand in hand also. i think the knobs on the gt , elantras , accents and velositers are the same . i have a knob from a accent i am going to make into a custom knob by molding a celtic skull to it. i've been fiddleing with it in spare time have the knobs fitted togather now tring to find a good way to bond then together. i used the all rubber cheep knob and cut it down a little to fit into the bottom of he skull. so far it looks ok dont want to mess it up so ill take my time with both steps if it looks good i will install then see what it looks like.

Hey, Did anyone figure out how to remove the leather boot cover?

I got the bottom clips off by pulling, but it seems that the top half is connected to the holder compartment in the front?
